You get to choose a minor faction/sub-faction from the lore to get a release in game. They get unique models, rules and (if possible) named characters. Which faction do you choose?

There is an objective 100% chance that The-Confederacy-Will-Rise-Again militias exist in Starcraft.

Umojan Protectorate.
I want the Umoja Shadowguard, and their Marines look sick. I love their holographic/hardlight/whateverthefuckitis visors.
There's lots of characters in the novels and manga they could use to give the Protectorate a named character, and in SC2 there's people like Graven Hill (Hell, they could even get Valerian as part of their army if you want to lean into him being half-Umojan).
>>
How fun is the game in practice and could everyone give a quick rundown of the factions? Are there sub factions? I always really like archon studios and their model quality, but I have never actually played a game by them. Terran models seem cool. Is there any recommendation to start them?
>>
Unsure of how to do my Zerg. Just doing the usual orange/brown/purple/flesh mishmash or making something up. Considered red with white/off white bellies and brown culminating in black down their spines, with gradual transition between colours without specifically colour coding muscles and carapace distinctly, although probably with black talons and similar gradual red->brown->black transition along their limbs.
Alternately albino Zerg, maybe with a faded stencil on the queen like it's some escaped abomination from a Terran lab.

not really a subfaction but unarmored troopers (like the coop Mengsk militia) and civilians/scientists would be cool for flavor alone and more narrative games. as for a special model, probably that guy who set off the nuke in the amerigo station in the first game with the beer fridge nuke as a bonus

So its just gonna be 1-3 mutas right? those things are meant to be the size of a mid sized space ship.

Desolate Queen/Pre-Zerus HotS Kerrigan is an awesome design and I hope we get a model for her. Give her the Ghost Canister-rifle she uses in the first mission or two of HotS, different/lesser abilities and different stats compared to current Kerrigan and a sub-faction called something like the Shattered Swarm. This faction represents the first act or two of HotS before the Swarm reforms under her and has access to different units than the full Kerrigan's Swarm sub-faction.
Maybe she can be taken like this in Terran lists too.
Would be pretty sweet.
>>
>>98846562
mutalisks are not that big. you can see them next to BCs and the like. they're not small but they're not dropship sized.
>>
>>98846599
I'd like it if we got a "Human Kerrigan" model with a profile that can be used in Terrans or Zerg. She comes with a build option to have the ghost's rifle or energy blazing from her hands, and a more normal head with the red hair, and a Zerg hair head. This way you can get SC1 Sarah and SC2 Sarah

>>
>>98846658
>>98846732
Would SC1 Kerrigan really be different from Nova? Even model-wise you could probably just paint Nova hair red and call it a day, they're both wearing ghost uniform with a long ponytail
>>
>>98846774
Different suit (in HotS her Ghost suit has a unique design), different stats and abilities and Kerrigan never had a fucking Zoomer gimmick jetpack

>>98846907
Nta but it looks like a structure paste without sand mixed in. Maybe a common filler/spackling paste.
>>
>>98846599
This makes sense, but the reason they won't do it like this is that Desolate Queen Kerrigan and Sons of Korhal Sarah are two units they can easily makes models out of and sell separately, thus earning twice the profit.

Hey anon, sorry I missed your reply.
It's just Vallejo Brown Mud paste randomly spread on the bases. I also added some creep tumor bits from the zergling kits to the 50 and 80mm bases.
After it was all dried and cured, I sprayed them with a panzer grey color primer.
Afterwards I just drybrushed the bases with some grey and off white and painted the creep tumors.

I have half my marines painted and absolutely no clue how to play the game because polish to english translation without even a small attempt at localizing the terminology makes me want to jump off a building. I'll make sure I'm sober to learn eventually but nah man, not right now, nah. I might just end up using konflict 47 rules because fuck this gaymey no cover no suppression shit.

There's cover, but no suppression or morale.

Choice of colors is interesting. The primary color is like zerg carapace and the blue highlights almost seem to glow against it. I picture these guys as zerg hunters that style themselves after their quarry.

There is not much to talk about yet. The game has like 5 units per side. Flyers will mix it up bigtime i guess. Pic related is a double Zerg vs Protoss and Terran 2v2. We didnt know if there are 2v2 rules, so we played by the 1v1 rules with split supply. Worked out great. The Zelots are crazy strong. They held one chokepoint by themself till the last turn and managed to breake through the other with a single model surviving. For once the marauders didnt oneshot my queen. She stayed in play burrowed with 1 hp left. Raynor and his raiders secured the main objective in the middle and killed half of my models in one turn. We still won 14 to 12 by board control. We had 4 very enjoyable games that day, while the 40k guys argued for 7 hours about terrain rules, kek.

Played like 10 or 15 1k games and a half dozen 2k games- hard to not want to play after you start with how solid the rules are. Not only is it just a really good ttg with mechanics that keep both players engaged the entire time, the building/supply rules just do a stellar job of capturing the feel of Starcraft- not the EXACT game itself with mineral mining and base bulding mind you, but more the best moment in Starcraft when you and your opponent clash in no man's land with the forces you've put together & one of your marines set as a rally point for the reinforcements in qeueu.
The only issue I have currently is dedicated anti-armor feels kinda mid right now with there being so few armored targets to shoot, but that'll undoubtedly change as we get more units.
>>
>>98853600
Yeah, pretty much nothing changes until Valerian gets the throne, which lowkey infuriates me. If Mengsk is apparently as bad as the Confederacy, why the hell does everyone just go along with him being in charge after the UED & Kerrigan wipe out his authority?
They just try too hard to have their cake and eat it too- they wanted him to be this evil retard who does everything wrong noone in their right mind would want as their ruler but at the same he manages to start from the absolute bottom and work his way to the top with this persona.
That's not how dictators work- they have to earn the public's favor SOMEHOW. Hitler banged his fist and said Europe belongs to Germany. Stalin coasted by on Lenin's reputation. Et cetera et cetera.
>>
>>98853695
Mengsk's whole thing is impossible charisma. He can shot your best friend in front of ypu and convince you, easily, it was the right thing to do. Pair this with his pro-human, humanity first, wipe out all aliens, aliens are shit ideals and it's easy to see why people follow him in a post-First Great War era.
>>
>>98853618
>The only issue I have currently is dedicated anti-armor feels kinda mid right now with there being so few armored targets to shoot, but that'll undoubtedly change as we get more units.
You feel it more against Protoss, I find. They've more armor than the Zerg
>>
>>98854128
Like what? Stalkers and Imortals? Thats 2 units. With the armored Queen, the Worm and the Roaches, Zergs have that much in the starter alone.
>>
>>98854409
I tend to fight multiple Stalkers and an Immortal in most Protoss lists I fight, so yeah I get more use outta anti-armour.
Also, fuck you.
>>
>>98852522
Yeah game doesn't need it. You've got drugged up soldiers, hive mind, and psionic Fight or Die types anyways.
>>
>>98854409
It's a pretty viable strategy for zerg to skip roaches or burrow them, and then focus on hydra/ling spam while keeping the queens in the back out of harm's way,

Immortals and stalkers meanwhile have to be in front doing their damage, and skipping one or the other feels like it'd make playing protoss pretty impossible.

Marine spam is decent for terrans, but it just got smacked with a nerf making it clunky to actually run, and they're still a little less well rounded damage wise the way lings or hydras are.
>>
>>98854689
Seems to be like zerg are the easiest to play. I just played a bunch of games over the weekend and zerg felt pretty tough to play around sometimes.
>>
>>98855075
I've found Protoss easiest thus far, hyper mobile, tough and killy all at once
>>
>>98855075
I would complain, but it's refreshing to not have protoss be the faction a braindead gorilla can win with
>>
>>98855411
I definitely wasn't using my bag of tricks as greast as I could've and it also doesn't help that it was my first time playing them. I was originally going to play terran but their starter set didn't come out over here yet.

Is it me or it seems like both the Ravager and the Immortal are designed to be direct counters to the Siege Tonk?
one is a big ass railgun hit, the other one places direct damage markers on units that dont move out of the way, so the tank in siege mode is forced to take the hit or lose siege status.

In practice it more or less works exactly like it does in the game- you stick your tank out front in the middle of harm's way it dies, but if you zone off with marines like you're supposed to it never even gets in harm's way.

The immortal can sometimes get close enough to nuke it if you don't pepper it enough with marine shots to get its shields down, but that us again identical to the vidya

I'm doing what i did for my Lizardmen in AoS. Look up snapsheet tiling for train autism tables and dioramas. Its packs of sheets that click together like cheap wooden floor decals poor people use to try and look rich and tacky. Theres all kinds of cobble but theres one called something like "cornish tile" that is a uneven and irregularly sized stone tiles that i cut up into pieces and cover the rest in texture paint and it works very well for ancient ruins of all sorts.
>>
>>98868191
I kinda had something like that for my seraphon spearhead, with broken temples and such, maybe I could just model some ruins in clay and throw chunks on the base and go from there

So how are people doing their big creep bases without being a pva and super glue pleb?

I'm going the good ole nurgle swamp way and cutting up bits to have them bursting out of the gunk and then the front of the base is gonna be basic bitch texture paint to look like its spreading over that with a hot glue transition and the creep side i'm painting a version of the creep design on the base then using vallejo heavy gel with a purple ink tint over the top for the lumpy partially transparent surface.

What's the verdict now that it's been out a bit?

I was considering Bolt Action, but then Starcraft dropped. The vibe I get is it's got smart enough design to be the next Warmachine and my pessimism thinks it will go down in flames the same. Archon only seems to do / have done some major IP tie in stuff, and a history of wonky kickstarters, with Blizzard itself breathing down their necks.

Kinda want to rotate hobbies back into wargames and several FLGS went all in on Starcraft
Anything but 40k. I've got Halo Flashpoint sitting on the consideration list under this and Bolt Action.

Is the playmat and terrain that comes with the Founders box only good for a 1000pt game?
>>
>>98871311
the playmat itself is the right size for 2000, but you would need two boxes of scenery to fill it up properly for a 2000 game, otherwise you just do 1000 games and block one side of the playmat making the field square and play with only one set.
Maybe you can get away with one set for 2000 crystals game if you get one of those huge ass temple ramps, but I haven't tested that so I'd let other people answer that.

Good to know. Unexpectedly an LGS here began stocking SC and I'm just waiting for them to get the faction starter boxes before going beyond 1000pts, at least terrain is very easy to substitute for when that time comes.
>>
>>98871761
Theres some starters in my area but they aren't moving at all
>>
>>98871311
Mix it with some woods and other Terrain you got and you are good for a 2000k game.
The game works fine with custom terrain. We dont even bother with "fair" setups. We just place the terrain thematicly and deal with it gamewise.
>>
>>98871781
Over here they've got two Founders boxes and the rest of the first wave to gauge interest. Only that I've already got one from elsewhere earlier and a Goliath is in the Terran box, unless having two is anything particularly useful.
>>
>>98870125
I want more named characters, I love too any of SCs characters to not want them, but I'd buy a customisable Executor, Dominion General or Broodmother kit. Like Star Wars Legion has.
>>
How could they make Moebius Corps work as a faction?
I'm thinking:
Terran units
Emil Narud/Samir Duran as named character
Access to all Hybrid types
Maybe some Protoss units in there to represent the Protoss who guarded Narud and Skygeirr Station
>>
>>98870859
Blizzardo will close long before it ever unretards itself. They're the next bioware after they fuck up WoW Forever and Assa Shartma finds out the Starcraft FPS isn't even real, just a poorly thought out bid for more time before the inevitable end.

Archon is a polish company now and I trust them because there are zero niggers, jews, jeets, beaners, bongs, mudslimes or self proclaimed socialists involved. They'll deliver without any exxxxtra faggotry and continue to do so, the rest is up to the community.

Dominion Troopers

Something like Irradiate would either be an upgrade or paired with an EMP
Ghosts already have radiation powers, calling in nukes

Zerg tech? so a brain bug for Zerg
Scientist units would be either some sort of buffing unit, debuffer, or a support unit involving tactical cards
>tank that has can have its turret turn into a jet
So what, like a deployable drone/fighter, could be a niche peaking over terrain unit ability
Not sure if the tank would still be useful without the turret or if it's just a carrier for the drone/fighter

People's reactions to the flag are extremely telling in how Blizzard and society at large have changed. Back in the 90s no one gave a shit about it and it was chosen half for lols because the Terrans are space rednecks. At some point the NPCs got an update and people now equate it with the Windmill of Peace. Not only was the Terran Confederacy were evil for reasons completely unrelated to their flag, it is an actual symbol the largest human faction in the sector prior to the Dominion, who are inexplicably also just as evil but they get the pass because they don't use a heckin hate symbol.

Kerrigan and Zegara are auto-includes for the Zerg. Artanis is a must have. Jim is the first thing in any Terran list. Nova looks too good to not bring in any match you're not bringing Jim. Stukov is apparently key to the Infested playstyle. Tal'darim are going to be built around Alarak.
If you don't like it, you genuinely need to find a new game because it's only going to get "worse" from here.
>>
>>98880446
i think alarak will just be stat checking, depending on the exact buffs the taldarim faction gives you depending on lost supply. Altho it will be funny seeing adepts and shit charging into melee just to die because you want buffs like precision and critical hit

How was assembly for this stupid looking model?
>>
Tassadar's gates are so fucky to put together. Not only the sliced bits don't really want to sit together, the central part needs twists and interweaving only to maybe match either bit with instruction just telling you to smash it all together flat. Tassadar himself only has a bit of a wonky connection on his ass to the ass-cape. However he has plenty of incorporated clear plastic (and joins to his bases by the lightning rods too) that you're forced to learn to paint them or do sub assembly paiting early on.
>>
I kindof want to keep the translucent plastic, so im not sure if i want to make a Tal'darim force since ill have to paint over it to make it red.
>>
>>98884969
talds get 2P box in w4 and starter force in like april so maybe they'll come with red plastic already

Which is especially funny, because the Sons of Korhal/Dominion are basically Commie-Nazis in terms of inspiration and aesthetic
>black and red color focus
>main symbol manages to be reminiscent of the Intolerant Windmill and the Hungry Hammer at the same time
>entire revolution is predicated on a singular charismatic elite agitating the lower classes
Sure this is pretty bog standard revolt stuff but you'd think if a confederate flag is enough to make people cry they'd get equally upset about the Swastiwhip.
>>
>>98888729
>you'd think if a confederate flag is enough to make people cry they'd get equally upset about the Swastiwhip.
Those kind of people need SS uniforms on Mengsk's personal guard to make the connection. Starcraft power armor is nice and sterile in aesthetic despite the fact it'd be a terrifying symbol of oppression for anyone that so much as thinks about rebelling against the Dominion.
>>
>>98888875
I quite like the new CMC design in Dominion. Clearly a more advanced suit but it keeps the important details of the suits we know. I think it's neat. Curious to see more about the game.
>>
>>98889832
It was redesigned to be easily replicated by video AI models that have trouble with all the little nodules and bits on the old suits. Which they used to make it. If you watch the interview with Baldy McBald farcry guy who is the lead dev, the game he describes doesn't have anything to do at all with the trailer. These are completely unrelated, mutually exclusive concepts. He then goes on to insist repeatedly like a cranked out schizo 'its not vaporware I swear I can play it right now and talk to NPCs in town' when.. No one ever even so much as implied that it might not be real. And again, no gameplay is shown.

Its obviously not a real game and a hamfisted ploy to get microsoft off their backs with a fake holy grail title that can replace the built to fail gays of war on xbox. I'm not even going to mention the implausibly tiny development window, since its allegedly been worked on for a bit already. Again though, no gameplay has been shown to date.

LotV was like half good ideas implemented terribly. Tal'darim and the idea of more splinter Protoss cultures was good; the Purifiers was a fine idea, but their design sucked; the idea of the Khala being corrupted and used against the Templars was a great plot point to avoid another "Whoa be the advance aliens being put in their place by the upstarts", but there wasn't going to really be a satisfying way of concluding that while keeping what made the Khalai unique.

the talons are made of stuff that can get through the armor and the zerglings are backed up by a billion other zerglings + ranged hydralisks + line breaking ultralists + dark swarms fucking up enemy tech + mutalisks and scourge harrying enemy air support. marines are absolutely fodder in that scenario, enemy armies get obliterated by tanks and battle cruisers

For what possible reason?

SCHNELLER!

Easier to paint, to carry and most important... swivelling the cannon around to point it at what its shooting looks cool.
>>
>>98894323
>swivelling the cannon around
...he says, gluing 3 magnets in a straight line.
>>
>>98894575
yes, but the other side is a magnetic sheet, which allows me to reposition the turret and it works! Now sure 3 magnets in a line isnt as strong as it could be, will probably try to positon 1 more magnet on either side however the turret is repostionable. Its not turning smoothly but thats because its got 4 little nibs that are orinially there to glue in to 4 small holes in the turret base to secure the model together when glued. I am keeping those at the moment because it does secure the turret in 4 cardinal directions.

They don't need that at all to do what they do. If you look at their anatomy, their attacking arms aren't built for stabbing like a mantis shrimps. They're built like a spiders for grappling and positioned high on the body, which make sense with both their primary enemies being bipeds. Once they topple a marine or a zealot over, its ogre, it would be trivial to just pull them apart like army ants. Not that its unrealistic, there are real insects with iron reinforced chitin, but it doesn't really need to be anymore complicated an explanation than that, especially with their disposability. Banelings are where the bioengineering mastery and adaptation comes in on full display.

Can somebody please explain to me TACTICAL CARDS like i’m 5? The rule book explains that you gain CP when you exhaust a card. So if I understand correctly, I gain CP, (BM,PE) when I use the card, and then I can spend that CP on my units datasheets?

Do i regain my cards tactical cards that i exhausted at the end of the turn?

I played a demo game with my friend yesterday. Very fun, but this rule was very hard to find clarification for:
>>
>>98896795
When you use ability that costs CP you flip enough cards to pay the cost of ability. Unspent CP does NOT linger, e.g. if you flip card that gives 2 CP to pay for 1 cost ability you will waste 1 CP.
Cards are unflipped at the end of turn in cleanup phase.
>>
>>98896217
>but it doesn't really need to be anymore complicated an explanation than that
I guess not, but it would explain why they need minerals to produce.
>>
>>98896871
I see. And I no longer have access to the ability on the cards once they are flipped?
>>
>>98897028
Correct. And using ability of a card itself also flips it.
>>
>>98895673
Those are some suspiciously hairy Nerazim.

OK, that makes sense then.

Can you post the instructions for Tass and the High Temps? Curious to see how fucking awful they assemble before deciding to buy or not.

With exceptions listed on the cards themselves (Academy)

I doubt that I'd be hyped to see their Warcraft stuff desu. I like how Archon's mechanical and monstrous stuff looks but I have not been impressed by a single face sculpt. They actually kind of lucked out with Protoss, they're hard to fuck up when translated to tabletop because their "face" is just eyeballs with ridges.
>>
>>98898760
I'd play it if they would let me play Amani trolls with Zul'jin

Fuck you, I would suck dick and eat ass to get plastic Night Elves.

I know it's not happening but I'd love if he got a faction card for Sons of Korhol and Terran Dominion.
>>
>>98900885
what got you interested in the first place?
>>
>>98900362
Probably just a Terran Dominion card.
>>
Just finished my UED tonk, just missing the base and some red powder, but damn I'm in love with this thing.

Just found out some people don't like how "short" the amount of time the Protoss have been in space for. The Protoss roaming the stars for 3000 or 2000 years and the Dark Templar existing for 1000 (and a bit) years seems fine to me?
I mean, shit look at all we've done since the birth of Christ and we ain't a hiveminded alien race with cool psychic powers that were taught by literal universe creating gods.
>>
>>98901952
>Protoss exploring the stars and building their empire for roughly 2000 years, probably more like 1500 or 1800 years
>Dark Templar exist as exiles for 1006 years
>Terrans are only travelling the stars for less than 400 years
I can see why the Protoss are considered an ancient race when compared to the humans. They've been doing this, with far more success and style, for 1300 or so years more than the folk from earth
>>
>>98901952
The Protoss and Zerg were uplifted by the Xel Naga, that means whatever natural development path they would have followed is moot. Terrans developed naturally or, if you believe Narud, were an aborted experiment that went awry.
>>
So what's the best way to assemble Zerglings and Roaches? Are any of the variant strains worth it, or just stick with the base units?
