What ships do your players own? Do they have a fleet? Would you let them have a fleet?
>>
>>98808789
>TQ
One of my prospective players is an Iron Warriors Warpsmith. His stated goal is to carve out his own autonomous empire and mass-produce daemon engines and daemon ships. He's drawn up a template for minelaying, torpedo lugging daemonships, assembled and deployed in shoals to be unleashed upon imperial shipping and logistics trains.
So now I have to figure out how to stat those.
>>
>>98808789
I took the board's advice & took the example ship Sabre & modified it to fit my vision of a Servitor Crewed warp skimmer.

I am tentatively naming it the Dread Empyrean but my characters enemies & rivals curse it as the dreadful "Imp" as a play of its name
>>
>>98809223
How'd you mod it, aside from just Servitor Crew?
>>
>>98809521
Noise marines already exist. For everything else, there's Emperor's Children.
>>
>>98809565
You can't hide your sins, coward.
>>
Do Kindreds of the same League ever fight one-another, or is that the sort of thing that gets the League leadership pissy?
>>
>>98808588
>Any ideas how to make a more interesting Slaanesh tech priest?
Narcotics, sensorial fuckery, incremental increases through warp bullshit.

My gripe with Slaanesh is about doing any one thing to 11 but because all of the other weird shit out there she "only" gets the horny shit, despite being an Eldar god weirdly enough.
>>
>>98809283
Took out the Luxury Passenger quarters, Reinforced Bulkheads, etc. Put in Servitor Crew & Crew Reclaimation & the Markov Warp Drive. I didnt have to shuffle too much. With time it should allow for swapping in more expensive upgrades to reduce space & power & allow for more fun components. Depending on how the story goes I may have the character in charge of the ship embrace having a regular crew. For now I really like that it feels isolated & lonely. It also fits the character's background/Dynasty options.
>>
>>98810450
>>98808588
>Any ideas how to make a more interesting Slaanesh tech priest?
Seems to me that you could do a lot with the AdMech's ideas about the weakness of flesh to have a Slaaneshi heretek obsessed with perfecting their own physical form via an extremely artfully crafted full-body prosthesis.

I don't recall if that was the premise of pic related when I saved it from an old drawthread, but you get the idea. Just photoshop her robes purple or whatever.
>>
>>98810826
Bonus points if that started out as a male techpriest before embracing Slaanesh worship.
>>
>>98810826
>>98810861
It should be an hermaphrodite body because Slaanesh.
>>
>>98810450
>>98810826
That's the problem im running into, its just drugs, twisted perfection, or the nastier parts of slaanesh but no sex appeal. A regular slaanesh worshiper is gonna be fucked up but they'd have a thin layer of something appealing. An admech usually has already gotten rid of the sexy parts
>>
Are redemptionist and/or frateris militia from blood of martyrs worth nabbing as alt career ranks in dark heresy?
>>
>>98810826
Given that Slannash is excess, I think the form need to be more uncanny. Think of a blow up doll, feminine exaggerated.
>>
>>98811132
>>98810826
>>98810450
>>98808588

Something I've seen in at least one of the RPGs before is a slaanesh cult based around a desire to horde knowledge, remember slaanesh is excess and also manifests as that perfectionism thing, the example with an obsession about a magnum opus would be a good basis A tech-priest obssessed with building some kind of "perfect" device, constantly seeking out more and more specific materials or devices to build it, or as the knowledge example, gathers information he doesn't need, just to have it, even at the expense of other tech-priests or factions.
So if your trying not to do the sex, drugs and visual perfectionism aspects, you can go the route of mental perfectionism/obsession resulting in the tech-priest impeding other groups, and exposing themselves and their followers to things best handled in small amounts at most.
>>
>>98811376
Its the opposite. I want them to be more sexy and less inhuman. Like your basic slaaneshi is a sexy monster with inhuman desires/obession. But admech are already inhuman so its harder to add the sexy. I can do the obsessive magnum opus, or the hoarding, etc. thats fine. The part im struggling with is how to make it sexy. And not just by making them a tranny/hermaphrodite/etc that part is inhuman and not sexy

I'd go the other direction and have it look like a weird creepy doll
>>
>>98811769
>>98810826
What if they look like a hot woman, but when they show their "true self" they kind of fold & unfurl & twist into a mechanical cronenberg monster? Like the human form is just a shape thats disguising a bio-mechanical spider thing? He hips & waspish waist actually hides a narcotic stinger/mandible the legs dont even attach to her torso the way it would normally, their actually multi jointed spider legs connected to a thorax hidden behind her torso.

Does that sort of thing sound good?
>>
>>98811551
well y'know I wanted to go for more of a fire and brimstone fighter-cleric type character and on the surface both of those careers seemed like a step in that direction, so I was just wondering if anyone had experience with them and if taking one or both would help achieve said character idea

Been ages now since I played a game of Rogue Trader, but the last one had the party operating a nearly derelict Repulsive-class Grand Cruiser that had spent a few centuries contracted out as an orbital trading dock by the RT's incompetent father. The campaign started with us reactivating its reactor and warp drive, and the overarching goal over the course of the campaign (alas, all too short) was to restore it to full working order.

There's slaanesh worshipping marines aside from EC. Can't believe I'm needing to tell anon this but that's the state of /tg/ these days.

How does the Imperium depict daemons? Some of the older stories and novels will describe preachers with bound daemon tattoos or gargoyles shaped like daemons. I want to know what to describe these as looking as for my group without telling them something like "it looks like a bloodletter"
>>
>>98816010
Most Versions don't get to depict them at all

File: 4e3o8y737k231.jpg (197 KB, 811x1195)

>>98816010
Imperial religious art tends to be pretty abstract/allegorical. I don't think you'd ever see anything meant for public display that accurately depicted the appearance of an actual daemon.
>>
>>98816010
I think depictions of daemons that are vaguely correct will get that area grey knighted
>>
>>98816010
Daemons dont exist. Those are xenos
>>
>>98816010
It's unlikely that most art will accurately depict common demons. Sometimes it does, but it's rare.
>want to know what to describe these as looking as for my group
Look at the Word Bearer sigil. Demon head.
>>
>>98816407
>>98816539
It occurs to me that intentionally depicting daemons incorrectly in materials disseminated among the general public would be a great way for the Inquisition to identify heretics: If you spot a work of art that instead depicts a daemon as it really appears, you'd know the artist has actually seen one, and then it's off to the torture chamber he goes.
>>
>>98816584
And anyone that gets it right by luck gets purged just in case.
>>
If a Votann plasma sword strikes a Imperial power sword, what happens? Which one cuts the other?
>>
>>98819147
Power swords use disruption fields which, as per their name, 'disrupt' the atomic bonds holding materials together. This generally leads to those materials becoming far weaker and more brittle, which when followed up by the typical kinetic strike vastly magnifies its effects.
Plasma swords appear to be your typical magnetic field containing extremely hot, well, plasma, which uses tried and true extreme exposure to heat to accomplish similar effects.
If they strike edge to edge, the disruption field will meet first plasma, to which it does nothing because plasma is by nature disorganized, and then the emitter, which it will break. The plasma will meet the disruption field, clash against it, and begin superheating the underlying material.
There are two possibilities. One, the containment field for the plasma is permeable to the power sword. This will pit the respective energy sources against the respective emitters - if the disruption field and kinetic force can damage the containment field generator before the plasma can superheat and destroy the material of the power sword, the power sword wins. I consider this likely.
Two, the plasma containment is not permeable to the power sword. In this case it will be field against field. The plasma may begin to affect the underlying material of the power sword at the point of contact, but this will be negligible compared to the interaction between disruption and containment field. Field power output, efficiency, and quality of construction and maintenance will carry the day, overcome the other field, and effectively neutralize the other weapon.
Or, given this is 40K, the author will decide ahead of time who he wants to win and then work backwards from there to justify it.
>>
>>98819147
The imperial one wins because GW considers votann a xenos faction and xenos are forbidden from winning against a human faction.
>>
>>98819959
>GW considers votann a xenos faction
Because... That's what they are? Ratlings are the abhumans, Squats have always been nonhumans.
>>
>>98820000
They're physically a grey area between abhuman and xenos, but for rules purposes they are basically a xenos empire at this point.
>>
There are some ships in rogue trader that despite having hull stats they're just NPC ships huh? I thought the viper sloop was cool and thought about stacking detection mods on top of the innate +25 but man it's so tiny, there is no room in the ship at all
>>
>>98820863
They're there for the possibility of themed games, like the viper's case is to be an advance scout for a fleet. It's not meant for regular RT games.
>>
>>98819959
>>98820034
>>98820000

The Votann were supposed to be a few different things.

They were supposed to be squats unsquatted
They were supposed to be a human power that exists outside the Imperium
They were supposed to be less terrible than the Imperium with "fresher" tech & less xenophobia

Whether they succeeded in hitting those three in a satisfying way is a matter of opinion. Its kinda like why they did Primaris Marines.

>>98819147
I figure the lava blade plasma field stuff is similar enough to a power field that the fields would clash & need to overcome the other before they could do anything to the physical parts

I want to create a "Barbarian" chapter whose gene-seed fault is that their black carapace doesn't work so they can't use power armor. However, their ossmodula and biscopea are hyperactive, so they grow into hulking musclemen. They go into battle barechested and are favor fighting on feral worlds and death worlds.

My question is, would a chapter with a failure of such an important part of what makes a space marine a space marine be allowed to exist by Imperial authorities, or would they be culled as failures? Would the Imperium willingly waste resources on giving this chapter the legistical support they need (Battle Barges, AdMec support, etc.)

Oh, also, has this super original idea (Conan Marines) been done already?

>>98825007
The problem here isn't breaking official lore, it's that you're stripping a faction of its main appeal which is exaggerated superstrong power armour. The main question is kinda what's the point?
If you want Conan in 40k, there are other factions where the concept doesn't go against what makes the faction cool.
>>
>>98825007
Instead of taking space marines and removing their space marine bits, have you tried creating a tribe of ogryn that worship the image of space marines and try to emulate them?
>>
>>98826529
I’ll ask you then which faction should I go with? They started as a Catachan offshoot but I felt they didn’t reach the sorts of superhuman levels of Conan that I was going for.

I also felt inspired by the note in the Deathwatch core rule book that the black carapace mutation shouldn’t be taken ever. As they say, the most beautiful part of a painting is the frame.

>>98826539
Conan is not retarded. He is actually exceptionally intelligent and solves most of his problems with brain rather than brawn. In the Howard stories he spends most of his time outsmarting his foes and only decapitating them at the end.

Conan is not an Ogryan. He is a Space Marine without his armor.
>>
>>98826562
I don't give a fuck about conan. I'm trying to wedge your wack-ass idea into something resembling canon. Fluff it as a smarter than average subspecies and quit getting your knickers in a twist.
I'd tell you to go make a chapter who crash-landed on a feral world and lost all their tech, but tech is required to make more space marines, so that plot's stillborn.

Thinking on it further, crash-stranded marine chapter has legs if you flavor the 'getting new recruits' in a more techno-shaman way (and massively increase attrition rates to compensate), but this obviously restricts their playground to that singular planet, with the sole exception of webway gates. It's also being very generous with smudging the requisite surgeries.
I'm not gonna read whatever lore was posted because the premise breaks suspension of disbelief.
>inb4 "your suspension of disbelief can include [insert aspect of 40k] but not this?"

>>98826804
What the absolute fuck are you talking about? Space Marine reproduction requires intense Mechanicus cooperation, they cannot exist beyond a single generation without Mars
>>
>>98825007

>>
>>98826562
I think Gland Warriors could be a basis for your stuff. That was my first thought when you talked about the concept.
>>
>>98826904
Space marine chapters are theoretically self-sustaining after their establishment. Apothecaries handle the 'make new marines' bit, Techmarines handle the 'make new wargear' bit. Galactic attrition rates are the reason they need constant influxes of materials from forge worlds, as well as the reason they die.
Now, assuming a chapter's battle barge gets caught in a time vortex and thrown into a Feral World in undisclosed M3X-ish timeframe, irrevocably stranding them on said world out of contact with the wider Imperium but failing to destroy them utterly, they may degenerate sufficiently over time to fall first to a questing knights sort of society where they bring out their advanced wargear only when needed, and then to a techno-barbarian style of society where what technology remains is myth and legend only, plus the odd 'magic sword' found or granted to heroes.
However, as I said,
>It's also being very generous with smudging the requisite surgeries.
The surgeries to become a marine are incredibly intensive, and even with imperial tech there's a massive attrition rate. If Apothecary knowledge degenerates to 'cut them open with flint knives and implant the weird organs while chanting the rites', that attrition rate is going to skyrocket unless the Apothecaries are also Librarians with a specialty in biomancy. Which, fuck it, might work as a concept. Who the hell knows, I'm just playing "what if" to see if there are any legs to this nonsense.

>Lathe Blade cannot be destroyed by the effects of a power field.
Who can't read?
>>
>>98829365
NTA but the effects do not reference each other and it leaves ambiguity.
Power Field states a 75% chance to destroy a weapon it parries if said weapon lacks the Power Field quality. Lathe Blade clearly has an exception to this effect, but are we to take it that the Sollex-Aegis lacks the normal exception to this clause in other power weapons, or is that implied by it being a power weapon? Is the destruction intended as a modification of the innate 75% chance to 100%, or is it fully intended to be separate, with even other power weapons vulnerable?
RAW, you can argue that it's two separate effects which should be treated differently, but can you not also argue that this destruction is an effect of a power field, and thus a Lathe Blade should be impervious to it?
Furthermore, are the Votann weapon and the Sollex-Aegis blade truly comparable when one is said to have no physical 'blade' at all, and the other clearly has one? Does the Votann blade have any similar rule on the tabletop to back up that interpretation, or is it simply treated as an alternatively flavored power blade?
>>
The Energy Blade is a power weapon with special rules, so even a Lathes blade would be broken by it.
Both are in the inquisitor's handbook, go watch, do what you want, but an energy blade would break a lathes blade, since it is, again a power weapon '+1' being a plasma beam instead of a power field.

The Votann blade is no where they were still Squats back then, and much more better.

SoB can use light power armour without having the Black Carapace.
The purpose of the Black Carapace is to reduce the penalties that would otherwise be incurred by wearing heavy power armour.
There is a version of MIU known as a SIU that that is specifically intended to allow normal humans to operate heavy power armour but it doesn't reduce the penalties for wearing it, unlike the deeper connection provided by the Black Carapace's interface.
While your "Conan" marines would be unable to use proper marine suits, they could use the less sophisticated versions that are provided to other Imperial factions.

There are infinite amounts of safer and more efficient xenoforms that could accomplish the same thing. Those other xenoforms wouldn't need an active tyranid infestation to sustain themselves. Rippers are the scavenging mechanisms of the hive, they're birthed in slurry pools, stuff their guts, and jump headlong into digestion vats. I think perhaps there is a reason Scouts went into battle with light carapace armor rather than power suits. Sure, that was the mission set, but it also seems likely that for an augmented Astartes, they would be more hindered than helped by non-Astartes power armor.

A chapter of Conan Marines going into battle naked rather than with scout carapace armor is a chapter of larpers who have lost the plot and probably wouldn’t survive their first campaigns against any of the other named factions.

Am I wrong or does the Lascannon on IM seem like the most OP gun? 18 damage & Pen 10 it can drop most things with no problem. Not even the best Meltas come close on damage & the Lascannon has Extreme Range so it's like a sniper rifle too. Only drawback is its an Ordinance weapon with Heavy 4 so its big & you arent hiding it, but that can be mitigated. If you use the admech book you can even add traits/damage with a decent Lore Test to justify it, or even get it annointed so it kills daemons even better. As long as youre not trying to sneak it in your skirt to meet some hive ganger boss that one weapon will easily out damage everything l else. If you make it a Combi-Weapon with a grenade/missle launcher youre golden. You could even install it on a servitor/familiar.

Something i think would be cool is to have a small group of hirelings/familiars/underlings sitting in a truck following the players a mile or two away. They all have big guns aimed at the back door of the truck ready to fire. The psyker of the team could then open a portal between the battlefield & the truck with Gate of Infinity, & tell the fireteam which targets to light up as they shoot through the portal. You could even make it a vertical portal right above the enemy's zone if you wanted.

At that point, you're basically having to contend with socio-political and operational concerns, not weapons stats.

If you're a rich/important enough person that you can get the Adeptus Mechanicus to build you a custom upgraded combi-lascannon, fit it with a self-contained reactor, and install it in a servitor, there's a very real question of what the fuck you're doing in a situation where you'd need something like that. You'd have to be a high-ranking nobleman, a general, an Inquisitor, a Rogue Trader, etc. to have that much pull with the AdMech. So why are you personally doing going out there with your lascannon servitor instead of requisitioning a tank and a hundred guardsmen to go out there instead?

Is the main reason AI is banned in the Imperium is because of the Men of Iron or is it because it makes tech easier for chaos corruption?
>>
>>98841052
Its because of Dune
>>
>>98841052
The Imperium neither fully understands what AI is nor exactly why it is forbidden. The ban existed in the Omnissian religion before the Emperor allied himself with Mars and probably relates to the AI rebellion, which is itself an obscure bit of history that few people know about. Explanations in the 40K era are dogmatic, inferred, or speculative. It's banned first and foremost because of tradition. In reality, many existing technologies may used limited forms of AI that the Mechanicus don't recognize as such. AIs that exist may turn against their creators for mundane reasons or may be corrupted by the Warp (or knowledge of it) like any being with a mind.

He gave the objectively correct answer. Put a single enemy against your players and they'll find a way to one-turn him. >What's the best way to make boss type characters actually able to eat some shit?
The boss gets a full action and a reaction for each player, but the boss can only use that action on the player whose turn is next. This way, the boss is never out-actioned, and it allows a focus on each player when it's their go. If needed, the boss can summon additional adds as needed at the start of each round, but these can only attack at the end of each round, rewarding good add control while ensuring a target rich environment.

Imperium Maledictum has a few bumps but overall it's a pretty good successor the FFG line. Sadly since it's the new thing it doesn't have as much mechanical glut that the FFG line has so it's a little harder to justify if you've got all your FFG stuff still.
However, with time I think it'll be on par once the Rogue Trader and Imperial Guard/Navy books come out.
Though it does have a slight issue that by default it expects your party to never actually want to be Inquisitors or Rogue Traders or Imperial Guard generals as PCs but only attain those after campaign when they get NPC'd for the next campaign's set of dudes.
That's probably the only stumbling block I see the game having is you're only ever supposed to want to play the scalpels of the moves and shakers of the world but not want to actually play them.
Considering the Necromunda RPG is now MIA if they can put the Recidivist book out that'd be pretty cool too.

>>
>>98845977
No retard. Marines barely have any personality as it is. How are you going to realistically roleplay? They train 20+ hours a day or they are fighting an active war zone. Might as well be a Spacehulk build a dungeon type board game.

All the other factions at least have some space to run around in narratively. IM actually had the best idea of mostly copying the FFG Dark Heresy style but making the Patron be any big name organization. Now you can run a war game or an investigation game or a general adventure game with different characters using the same mechanics without problems. The only thing the need to do is raise the ceiling on character power/options so you could be something like a Rogue Trader with your own power & resources, working with an Inquisitor or any real combination of powerful people helping other powerful people. I expect an "Ascension" book at some point.

>>98847004
Details? Because space marines have always been very devoid of most personality. Thats what all the hypno indoctrination is about. Sure, named characters have some charm to them, but most battle brothers are just mission focused soldiers. Theres not enough thematic breathing room for anything else
>>
>>98847112
>>98847352
The cutoff is when ashes of the Imperium came out which changed hypno-indoctrination, turning loyalist marines into unthinking biological automata and proving chaos correct the entire time (that legionaries actually WERE superior to modern marines).
>>
>>98847461
Legionaries (loyalist or otherwise) ARE superior to standard marines. Everything was better in 30k than it is in 40k. Thats the POINT of 40k. I remember way back when people actually theorized that bolters were just industrial bolt guns/nail guns because technology had devolved & degraded so much. So yeah, 40k marines are a degenerate form of the Legionaires by far. Less free of thought. Less personable. All of them a lesser diluted form of their primarch to begin with.

But tell me what non-combat role-playing is anyone doing in Deathwatch? Stuff that isnt "you sit in the Battle Barge/Fortress Monestary for a few weeks, what do you do to pass the time"?
>>
>>98847831
>But tell me what non-combat role-playing is anyone doing in Deathwatch?
Years ago, in Republican Commando, my players helped plan and lead the sector's BOYNEXTDOOR Festival, where they got to improve the morale of a crusade's guardswomen through displays of oiled wrestling, cryotechnics, mongolian throat singing, dreadnought dancing, and more. Every guardswoman was certified loyal after watching such a display.

NTA but that kind of theory was very popular on old /tg/. IIRC another theory was that one of the tanks, the land raider maybe, was just a repurposed agricultural tractor. You still see some echoes of this in the "DAOT humanity would body the whole setting instantly" sentiment that crops up to this day.
>>
>>98848333
DAOT humanity WOULD body the setting. Just like non-fallen Eldar or unfucked Necrons. Everyone has run down considerably. The galaxy is just nothing but fallen empires killing each other over the ashes. Is like if we fucked up our own shit so bad we started killing each other using AK-47s & AR-15s & whatnot as clubs because we dont even understand that they were rifles but we know that they were great weapons in the "before times"
>>

>>98848333
DAoT would body most other scifi settings out there. And the Landraider was an armoured exploratory vehicle, not a heavy tank, it just happens that by the 41st millennium tech has degraded so far that it is seen as a heavy assault tank. Just like how Terminator armour was originally a protective suit for reactor maintenance workers, and was not considered a military asset at all.

>>98845823
I really dislike its lack of granularity. You have 5, iirc, power levels with 1 being a grot and 5 being a chapter master or carnifex and everything else has to slot in between those. It's also massively simplified in comparison to FFG games but gains little from it gameplay wise.
>>
>>98848053
The RPG adds a lot of room for differentiation, then populates that new room. BFG lacks that room, so a lot of ships are going to feel very samey if not identical.
>>
>>98849368
BFG only has two categories, Escort and Line Ship. The armada game adds a third, Titanship. The RPG separates Escorts into Raiders and Frigates, and Line Ships into Light Cruisers, Cruisers, and so on. Even then, only the escorts are tough. The Line Ships are separated enough to make conversion less of a pain.
>>
>>98849727
>BFG only has two categories, Escort and Line Ship.
False. Battleships were their own category and had different rules.
Arguably you could have attack craft as a 4th type.

because it acts differently on the table than torpedo ordnance but shares some of the same rules.
There's not distinction between light cruisers, heavy, grand and cruisers in an explicit sense, but some of them have different hits, speed, turns, shields, etc. like how battleships have those differences but don't have the different momentum/movement forward per turn rules. Its not a clean division.

He's not entirely wrong about the escort vs. line ship thing. Both cruisers and battleships use the same ruleset in BFG, while escorts have a somewhat different set of rules, where they operate in squadrons and die to a single point of damage.

On the other hand, the FFG system allows for escort sized ships to operate independently, and tracks damage states rather than just counting them as destroyed from a single hit getting past the shields/armor.
>>
>>98850183
>Both cruisers and battleships use the same ruleset in BFG,
Again, false.
There are specific rules for how far battleships can move before they can turn that are distinct from cruisers and why they are a different category.
There are other things that cross over between categories.

>>

>the land raider maybe, was just a repurposed agricultural tractor
I think there was a Journal article that made a cheeky allusion to something like that, probably as a reference to that one NZ "tank" that was an armour plated tractor.
Also Rogue Trader (1987) says STCs made robust designs for frontier worlds and "Fighting vehicles often look like tractors and prime movers because that's exactly what they were copied from!" But that's more likely an implicit license to use construction toys in your games than anything about official models.

The warp is basically the galactic collective unconscious soup & everyone who has a soul contributes to the soup. Eventually that soup has a reverberation effect & influences everyone who has a soul. One of the reasons everyone is so regressive & ready to go to war is because the warp has been reflecting those traits back at people. Things people believe get reinforced slowly. One of the reasons the Emperor is wracked in torment & stuck on the throne is because every single human in the galaxy has been told over & over that he is. All that collective unconscious pins him in place. Its one of the reasons he didnt want to be seen as a god. All that belief soup can make you powerful, but it also limits your reality & shapes you

The Templars real name was Pauperes commilitones Christi Templique Salomonici (The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon)

Would you cringe if I walked up to you and said that the name of my custom chapter was "The Poor Fellow-Astartes of the Emperor and of the Golden Throne"

Yes, but mostly because it deviates from the normal naming convention of chapters, not because of the historical reference.

N. That's a good conversion system but it's mostly about calculating ship components and hulls space. I just wondered if there was a guide to convert the weapon stats and speed of ships from RT into BFG more exactly than just guesstimating

Idk why I appear to have caused an argument about BFG, it's not that deep lads I just want fleet combat with the streamlined BFG rules for a narrative campaign that mixes in a RPG elements and a bunch of stuff from BC and RT
>>
>>98852319
"Poor" would be a very strange word for the Imperium to use of marines. Humility is not considered a virtue. "Fellow-Astartes" just seems strange. And as mentioned it's very long; most are two words, with some X of Y's. I can't think of any longer offhand.
>>
>>98851937
The warp consensus bullshit is fine, it being a case by case thing is also fine. It's the way that you can that piece of lore is mainly an excuse for IoM behavior.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this besides "this annoys me"
>>
>>98853702
Mmmm canned soup...

The IoM were propaganda'd into being belligerent assholes by the Emperor too. Theres no one influence that controls people. The warp's influence isnt that strong, but it is everywhere. But whenever you wonder why no one anywhere, not the Eldar, not the IoM, etc ever try to make anything new, or do anything but destroy itself as it lumbers towards their own failed goals. know that its because Nurgle is the second most influential Chaos God. If you want to know why everyone fights & never gives peace a chance its because Khorne doesnt want that to happen & has been feeding on everyone's war. So if anyone does feel like making peace with another Khorne is gonna try to influence people into them making pieces of another instead.
>>
>>98853853

The warp is made out of emotions & ideas made manifest, but its also a sort of genius loci of spirits born of those emotions & thoughts too. Like, there are multiple variations of murder & rage and Khorne was once a small little guy bubbling up along with other murder & rage spirits, but he is the one that prevailed & devoured his kin, galvanizing ALL murder & rage into himself. This changes him as all those variations change the underlying spirit possibly slowly pulling him away from his original self too. If you could slowly painfully, get everyone in the galaxy into fighting wars as rageless practical strategies & not red hot matters of slaughter, Khorne would slowly be changed from his original aspect into something different, or a new spirit would slowly eat away at his purview & "body" until a new god reigned & khorne was left as a raging little bloodthirsty daemon. The power of belief & how it shapes the Immaterium & how realspace is in turn influenced by the warp is subtle but strong, sort of like gravity or inertia, its why the Emperor made a great big plan to kill everything & anytbing in the galaxy that wasnt a human devoted loyal to him, but also why he never wanted to claim to be a god & use it to his advantage.
>>
>>98852337
>What's the limit?
Right before it starts to sound retarded.
>The Poor Fellow-Astartes of the Emperor and of the Golden Throne"
Doesn't work, they're not early templars, they've been doing this for 10k years. They're not poor, they don't know how to be humble anymore if they ever did.
>The Glorious Astartes of the God-Emperor on the Golden Throne
is not bad as a formal high gothic title rather than a working vulgate title like
>Black Templars
could even lean into the overly ornate titles and keep going because nothing in it other than the God part makes them chapter specific.
>The Glorious Crusading Astartes of the God-Emperor on the Golden Throne
and have a gaggle of servitors, priests and whatnot adding in various additional embellishments simultaneously as they read the litanies trailing from battle honours Ad nauseam.
>>
>>98853858
>they're not early templars, they've been doing this for 10k years

Actually they’re a primaris founded chapter highly influenced by a Living Saint they fought with during their time as Unnumbered Sons.
>>
>>98853858
Another issue you have to contend with is that
>The Glorious Crusading Astartes of the God-Emperor on the Golden Throne
isn't very specific or descriptive. Like, that's all of the space marines. It describes every one of them, so why do THOSE guys get to wear the title?

Anons were wrong about game rules. Not your fault or a big deal, people are wrong a lot its just part of life.
For what its worth, the rules for BFG aren't complex. You don't really need to streamline them and it has a campaign built in for ship customization.
There's also additional rules for making RT fleets in bfg, might not have the amount of customization RTrpg has but haven't looked at the rpg to compare.
Ships in BFG engagements can die quite easily so might not be well suited to player character rpg longevity unless you cheat in their favour when they plan poorly or the dice don't work out but there's a decent variety of scenarios you can use to make a narrative campaign.

I may be not getting my point across very well so let me phrase it another way.

Memetic Hazards in 40k as poorly written for the most part and that ties to other problems I have with the IoM not delivering on the "Worse Regime Imaginable" part of their premise.

The warp soup analogies and explanations are neat but they lack some metaphorical salt to emphasize some of the more exotic vectors of corruption and influence.
>>
>>98854051
>they lack some metaphorical salt to emphasize some of the more exotic vectors of corruption and influence.
NTAYRT and not sure what this means entirely. Warp entities aren't just memetic hazards like pontypool or the like. They're also atemporal and galaxy spanning emergent forces so can influence from a variety of vectors simultaneously or in layers rather than relying on reading a book and going insane. That happens too, its easier to write than getting into how the engineer for the book binding factorum saw a strange pattern of acid rain on the tram that inspired them to make an alteration to the margins that lined up with a bit of scrap code left over from 4 millennia ago when the datacore for the factory was in warp transit due to a refugee crisis on a forge world due to etcetcetcetc. and that scrapcode vulnerability just as planned leads to part of why the Necroteuch is so effective. Part of it is memetic but part of it is their ability to influence many many things over time in subtle ways.

Late response but too long is probably anything more than two nouns/adjectives. Look at some of the first chapters or their successors. Blood Angels, Iron Hands, Imperial Fists. Scythes of the Emperor, Death Spectres, Sons of the Phoenix, Angels Encarmine, etc. most are only one or two words, either two nouns, or an adjective over the noun, with the longer ones being Blank of the Blank for the most part.

Literally whatever shitty world you can imagine, now stick a needle in their foot, oh look at that your edgy "worse regime imaginable" wasnt as bad as you imagined.

As far as memetic hazards, the Chaos Gods themselves are memetic hazards. Just knowing about them reinforces their identity & their power. Thats why few people in the Imperium even know about the Chaos gods. The Inquisition tries incredibly hard to delete any trace of them as just knowing about Chaos corrupts you.

We were hosting an inquisitor on our ship. Though we are within our rights to use alien mercenaries in a limited capacity, our Tau understood the important of making himself seem as meek, nonthreatening, and expendable as possible. To do this, he pretended to be genuinely retarded when the inquisitor spoke to him. He did not inform us of this plan beforehand. It seems to have worked though.

Whats a good weapon to dual weild with a Chordclaw? Im debating just using two, but didnt know if theres anything else that could be cool. >>
>>98857015
You wouldn't want to pair it with a pistol or ranged weapon for balance?
>>
>>98857066
Iwas thinking just for melee. My chordclaw is already a combo-weapon with a pistol in it, I know it's a lot of weight, but I have an integrated chordclaw/gun combi-weapon & i hold another rifle on a sling. I also have a web pistol in a holster, that way I can mix up my ranged options. But, since I can also dualwield melee weapons, I want something to pair with my claw in melee. Different methods of attack appeal to me, if that counts for anything. I like being able to have options for most encounters. Long range, short range, lethal, non lethal, etc. So when I do melee it's great that I can ignore armor, but my other hand is just doing nothing right now.

A Tithe Paid in Blood and Rot part III

After arriving in Cindergate Port, the acolytes disembarked from the sprites shuttle just in time for Emilia the psyker to be psychically attacked, going into a seizing fit as the sticky sweet scent of decay filled the air. A menial worker had also gone still, face planting like a board against the rockcrete floor.
Leveraging their ecclisiarchy authority, Durrana manages to get an hour with the body for assessment, finding a prayer hymnal with “Thank you, Teacher” written on the back and a strange scarring mass on the man’s foot, plus signs of cranial hemorrhagic shock, blood trickling from nose and ears while ash black tears streaked down his face. Psychic investigation with Psiniscence revealed a warmth, “like a fading heat lamp” from his body as well as other “little lights” in the spaceport.
Immediately investigating one of them at the main cargo train dock because Emilia has Bad Vibes intuition that they must be doing something with the trains into the hive proper, they find a tired administration clerk with no indication of heresy or the like, only confusion as to why someone would leverage a noble’s name to drag her aside. With a quick bit of questioning producing nothing, they move on to investigating the shipping company from ledgers taken from their last uncovering of cult activity, the Voss-Karlin headquarters building, meeting the head of the guild, Hereditary Factor Corliss Voss-Karlin.
Asking for information about the shipments from Heiron’s ledgers and pretending to be auditing him. This leads them to investigating and being unable to locate the ecclesiastical supply shipments but they do get their hands on one of the seed-stock shipments, discovering that the seeds themselves carried spores and faint traces of the same sickly sweet scent as before, though Venria and Durrana were safe with their gas masks and the only ones actually opening the sealed casks.
>>
>>98858975
Moving to question one of the counting house workers seems to prove nothing but after another round of questioning of the Hereditary Factor, they find out the man they questioned was in fact in charge of all the -B shipments that were under question. They barge in on him trying to burn dataslates involved in his cover-up of smuggled supplies and being bribed to do it by, you guessed it, the same duke they had killed a month ago.
>Hearing the realization in their voices as they discovered this entire lead was a dead end because they already got the guy was particularly glorious and felt properly Tzeenchian.
Bribing the Hereditary Factor with the deal of not revealing the nature of what happened and getting his company investigated for potentially collaborating in heretical activity knowing or not, the acolytes convince him to pay for their passage to the “in-between” station from their current planet and where the tainted grain was coming from known as Ashwell Drift to investigate the specific matters relating to the tainted shipments and smuggling.
A message sent to one of their inquisition contacts has them instructed to relay another message to a tithe-meister in the administratum overseeing the hive’s shipping network in order to have the man look into finding where the tainted grain stock was distributed and sent to, to find how much it had already done while they book passage on a merchant vessel Drusus' Smile to the void station.
>>
>>98858983
Thirteen days of warp transit go relatively uneventful despite a PTSD attack during warp translation on Hastus’ part flashing back to the Tranch wars and seeing the others as horrific mutants and nearly injuring Venria with his pistol, and Emilia attracting Warp-Ghosts that earn her suspicion from serfs that almost bubbles up into a lynching, they arrive at the Drift safely and meet the station Dockmistress Illyana Corevane, a woman dressed in an eclectic mix of a noble's uniform plus shipman's leathers, and bearing tattoos that Morven identifies as connected to a knight house from his homeworld, the self named “queen of the station” welcomes them in the name of removing threats to her profitable shipping business, and so sends them to receive identification and passes to move abound storage and record stores from her “Head of security”, Hacklo, an Ogryn with a Bone’ead implant, meat cleaver in place of a hand stump, and covered in tattoos, including one that marks him as formerly part of a unit of Catachan Jungle Fighters. The Ogryn gives them identification cognomens, and after a bit of haggling and a near threat of “Choppin ya up an’ eatin’ ya” after Emilia attempts to bribe him with food (earning the response of “you fink I’m as stupid as I look?” from the Ogryn) they get the records they are looking for from him, where the session ends shortly after.

>Apologies for the big blocks of text and messy nature, summarizing two sessions and some gaps between from memory was a bit more difficult than expected. But tonight getting to continue it and see just how they plan to try and track down possible heretics in a confined void-station. Hopefully story time is enjoyed by those reading.

Hearsay and telephone mixed with contempt. One of the key things to remember is all the different races in 40k have massive amounts of contempt for each other, except maybe Tyranids who don't feel much like that, although GSC do so even then.
>Lt. Space Marine knows spirit stones are important to the foul xenos because of their corrupt witch magic and superstitions of a fallen race. Learning any more than that would be at best, an ill advised waste of their 15 minutes of free time a day unless they're Death Watch and doing mission or campaign specific research.
>Aspect Warrior Eldar knows different Mon'keigh have different primitive faiths built around their corpse god, all of them doomed in their own sad way. Most eldar would not care about the crass details unless studying humans was their thing.
>>
>>98858959
I believe only specialized chapters like the Grey Knights or Deathwatch specifically know things like that. Standard marines will likely know that spirit stones are important to the disgusting xenos but not that they contain their souls outright. We know the Grey Knights are aware because they have returned stones to the Eldar before since they care more about killing chaos than fighting the elves. I believe there is also a Deathwatch relic that is a storm shield studded with the stones that they don't know specifics except that the eldar focus on trying to retrieve them over anything else?

I guess I worded this badly. I meant I want to use BFG because the rules are streamlined and more amicable to fleet combat.

Also I was going to have the players to be aboard their flagships which would be at least a cruiser so they shouldn't just instantly explode but I'd also let them transfer their flag to new ships if the flagship is crippled ala Mueller at Vermilion. There's also the disengage rules and emergency warp jump if things go seriously sideways inside the first mission.

They will take whatever they think they can use later on like some age of sail bullshit where some regions only accepted Spanish coin while others only accepted English currency, most places will have a middle man to change one coin to another or things devolve into bartering.

>I'm willing to give you half a ton of silver in exchange for 50 thousand new souls for my vessel
>5 hundred last pistols for your daughter, giving me a claim on your the lands you conquer after you pass.

I think there was something for that in only war and the 80s rogue trader but I don't remember the details. Odds are you can use the D&D ones with minimal changes, specially if you use older versions of them.

No. The Emperor's coin is souls. Only the worthless peons care about cash, Rogue Traders, Inquisitors, the Nobility, & anyone else important trades in favors & assets. Minted coins dont have any value outside of their novelty or their material value like if theyre made of gold or platinum. Only certain people are even allowed off of their planet of birth, so only vastly wealthy people are traveling

Back section of Rogue Trader has a bunch of tables and a bestiary for the GM. The random encounter is more like terrain placement or scenario generation though.
Slaves to Darkness and The Lost & The Damned books from the same era have chaotic warband generation tables which are very neat but buckle up they're fairly involved and of their era.
