ITT: Once huge artists now memoryholed
    >>
Being dead doesn't help keep you in circulation.

She was hated and despised with her promotion of oversinging that ruined the entire 90s so she deserves to be forgotten.

    >>132007904
You saying Jimi Hendrix or Frank Sinatra were memoryholed?

Whitney was always controversial with the black audience and never quite accepted by them; they said she was too white-sounding.
    >>
I feel like Elvis is one the verge of being forgotten. No one under 60 gives a shit about him

Yeah, people still know him obviously but he used to be almost the personification of music to a large subset of America. I think his music just didn't have the same substance and long term appeal of the Beatles to keep him alive in the the popular consciousness. In the end his fame was more the result of being a performer than a musician.

and yet, Auntie was also a mediocrity without David and Bacharach

That's usually the case when they seem to have more value in exploitation than integrity..

no (non-composer) musical artist from before the maturation of recording technology will be popularly remembered
    >>
    >>132008511
I'm in my 40s i'm not crazy about Elvis but the Sun Sessions are really good. His real fans are older than my parents, that's fucking old!

    Don't Be Cruel [MCA, 1988]
It's the eternal fast one/slow one problem--when he states his prerogatives and tries to make the world dance he's irresistible, when he masks his motives and tries to make the tenderoni moan he's an obvious con. But he earns his prerogatives: the internal rhymes and voice-electrobeat patterning of the title track are so tricky they're hooky. And since I've never been much of an expert on tenderoni, I'm willing to suspend judgment on the half that leaves me unmoved. B+

she actually sounds very black (got chops from gospel singing in black churches).
she just did pop songs and was pretty.

    >>132008511
do you think Sinatra is now bigger than Elvis with the under 60's?

    >Whitney Houston
    >Memoryholed
You hear her music almost daily on Sirius XM's 80's on 8.

you're white, Bob. blacks love putting on them slow love-making tracks when they fuck but white people don't listen to music during sex.

didn't that movie present Elvis as some kind of lib hero tho (i.e., fighter for one of the lib identity groups against le bigots)?
But irl, Elvis was the typical Southern conservative (i.e., worst humans on earth according to lib media) which is the main reason he fell out of favor (not openly down with the libs who own most of show biz and media).

Rock has been pretty much the soundtrack of the hippie (lib) social revolution since the Beatles.

that was when physical albums were still a thing, people valued music a lot more then than now

    >oversinging
As impossible as "overshredding" on guitar. We need more virtuoso singing (without retuning/quantizing).
    >>
    >so memoryholed he can't even surface in a thread like this, totally omitted even here

I couldn't stand her fucking warbling. She made the blandest pop music. I can't even imagine the type of retards that liked it. Probably middle aged house wives
    >>
    >>132007915
Eminem isn't memory holed at all. His last album first week did more than Kanye's last 6 albums if you don't count Donda and even then it was close. Music outlets and forums were just having a fit about Eminem doing a song with Kid Rock like 2 weeks ago.

    >>132011753
    >people valued music a lot more then than now
what does that have to do with people forgetting singers like sheryl crow or jewel existed? not everybody back then sold 10 million plus per album. these singers were around for years and their videos played in constant rotation
