Is a shitty $150 Stratocaster a good start?

If not other recommendations would be nice under $300 though

I recently dealt with the absolute most worthless retard of a guitar tech at a Guitar Center
My guitar has high frets. I know this because I straightened the neck, put a fret rocker on and found the high frets. I'd fix it myself but I don't have the tools so I figured just pay someone to do it.
This fucking boomer faggot keeps my guitar for a week and tells me he played it for hours and couldn't find any issue and asked me to come in and show him. So I do, play one single chord which immediately rattles like crazy from the high frets, and this fucking idiot starts lecturing me on my playing as if I'm a brand new guitarist. I've been playing for 21 years
He said "you must be self taught because you'd know to use light touch or else things can buzz" and then started playing my guitar going on about "I play 5 hours a day and don't have callouses because my touch is so light" and then he says he practices his touch and that's why he has muscle memory and can find any fret AND THEN this dumbass tried to play a chord without looking and missed.
I just said "yeah sure I'll go practice" and left.
    Fuck that fucking idiot

Niggers if he actually practices more than a dozen times he'll be beating the odds. He likely won't and the stuff will rot in his closet forever until it gets dumpstered, donated, or sold on facebook. He wants to spend $300 - that means no lessons, not even any decent virtual lessons, and probably no job.

If he does beat the odds somehow and manages to learn even a single simple song, that means he's likely actually not complete unemployed and retarded and then can buy a better guitar and amp very easily now that he knows anything at all.

    >>
    >>132007607

My first guitar cost about £150 quid and came with an awful little 10watt fender practice amp so it cost even less than that on its own. It's a squier affinity strat.
This was back in 2002 ish so no idea what they'd go for now but back then it was pretty much the cheapest of the cheap.
It's one of my favourite guitars.
It's all in the setup. Guys like >>132008201 are talking absolute bollocks. There are endless amounts of cheap shit guitars that will smoke considerably more expensive ones if they've been setup properly and as a beginner, learning to properly set up your guitar should be part of your learning process.
If you get the action right, adjust the truss, get the intonation spot on etc... You can turn even a very cheap guitar into something that is very playable and even fantastic that will be serviceable for your entire playing career.

I remember an old Paul Gilbert vid where he showed off a bunch of his guitars and so many of them were weird foreign basically plywood shit clones he'd grab from pawn shops and said that once his tech got hold of them and dropped in some hot pickups and gave it a proper setup, he'd rip on them and play them live.

For playability you don't need to spend much. Sound is where you want to spend the money.
A cheap, well set up guitar run through a decent amp will always be preferable to splurging on some £1000 guitar run through some absolutely dog shit amp.

When you're at the point where expensive gear matters to you, you'll be far enough on with the hobby that you'll be able to make your own decisions because you'll know what matters to you as a guitarist, rather than take advice from gear snob rich kiddies and their dust gathering custom les pauls and triple rec bedroom stacks that they grind out sloppy metallica riffs on.

TL:DR buy a cheapish guitar or buy second hand and learn to set it up right.

I'm not a guitarfag (piano only) but some of the runs towards the end sound pretty tricky to me, the beginning and middle section seem fine

It's pretty interesting how most of the pseudo-mystical subjectivist nonsense with people who desperately believe you can hear the difference between two different capacitors and similar nonsense has all but died out in the audiophile world for anyone under about 60 years old... But here in the guitar scene, the ignorant foolishness lives on as strong as ever. Really speaks to the averga intelligence of guitar buyers.

    >>132015914
    honestly a pretty kewl guitar
    >>
    >>132013767

Yeah but if you get rusty it just takes a little warm up period to get your chops back up to scratch. It's like being fluent in a second language. If you haven't spoken it in a while, you're rusty, but a few days immersing yourself and it all comes back sharp as ever.
It's not like you have to pick it all up from scratch again.
But that'd only happen if you had to stop playing for an extended period of time for some reason. If playing is your hobby/livelihood, you're not really going to get rusty because you're keeping your tools sharp every time you pick up and play.
    >>
    >>132011149
Yes but Paul Gilbert is a shizo and his guitar tech adds basically another several hundreds of bucks of work by setting up a shit guitar so it's less shit.
Might as well just buy a guitar that costs this much more and is already set up properly from the start
Also another thing that plays a role is tremolo system which sucks dicks on cheaper guitars
    >>
    >>132015999

The point is that you can buy a new guitar for a few hundo and then teach yourself to set it up to its absolute best and it's going to play well enough to take you from total beginner to advanced ability at which point you're going to be keen enough to justify spending some decent scrilla on some proper kit.
It's not the 80s/90s/00s any more where cheap guitars were made out of compressed cardboard and rolls of pennies taped together that would warp and wouldn't hold tune for more than 5 seconds.
The budget guitar space is flooded with fundamentally really solid offerings that are a good setup away from being smooth as fuck.
Yeah, you won't get good pickups or thru neck or a proper floating tremolo or whatever but that shit doesn't really matter to a beginner. Even crap hardware sounds good enough through todays modelling amps and software. Good enough to record and perform. It's 90% in the fingers anyway and like I said, if you're at the point where your sound is a big problem you're performing/recording at a level where you can justify an upgrade.

    >>
    >>132016274
Only retards keep their guitars out in the open, unless your room is free of dust and has humidity control, at the very least. Also, thanks, I still fucked up a few times but that's fine, I'm still writing it. My new guitar is picrel, the shop took it for me. It's Solar''s 29 inch 7 string and I had it turned from passive to active with a pair of SD Blackout pickups. I wanted them to paint it flamingo pink, too, but they don't do paintjobs, so I'll have that done later. A gay, pink XXL metal guitar will be funny. It should arrive next week.

So I can do the same tuning I do on my 8 string, but with more tension on the low Eb, so there's way more authority to it. It's bassy and a bit floppy on my 27 inch 8 string i posted up there, even with the chadtune.

Practice with a metronome. Keep your forearm and wrist relaxed, and use classical position with proper posture, no hunching forward to get a better look at your frets and picking hand. It's all in the wrist. Slant the pick a little, don't hit the strings flat with it, and use a smaller pick with ~just the tip~ peeking out between your fingers without your fingers hitting the strings before or after the pick does. Play a whole lot of stuff like Fear Factory and Dyscarnate. Post your stuff in /gg/ and attach a gay spider or 8 string guitar.

And don't forget to stretch / massage / relax every muscle you're using for this. It's a lot to demand from your picking hand, and you don't want to be yet another player who runs into shoulder, forearm, or hand issues.
