Dick sucking lips
The Dynasty: Roc La Familia [Def Jam, 2000]His arrogance is earned, but that doesn't make it interesting, especially since his whine isn't--the same habit of childish self-pity that generated cognitive dissonance when he was coming up on the snazziest swizzbeats in the kingdom is annoying pathology with knockoff protégés sending in productions by cellular. And wouldn't Memphis Bleek be more, I dunno, affecting contributing a few answering-machine cameos, from upstate maybe? Right, "Jigga" 's still got "skills." So does LL Cool J, whose more accomplished record means nothing to nobody. This is a major falloff, a lazy cash-in no matter who won't admit it. B

For me it’s guilty until proven innocent featuring R Kelly
>>132007578>>132007642Nas left him for dying after Ether. Kanye and Just Blaze could only carry him for so long and was easy pickings for Kanye who was a miles better artist overall and not the played out 90s persona jay aped from big, raekwon, nas and others.
>>132007668Produced by Just Blaze. This is a classic beat. So many people have used this beat. I completely forgot this is where it came from. This was prime Jay-Z (c. 2000). This is back when Jay-Z was still the King of New York, before Nas dethroned him with “Ether” in 2001. I remember being a kid. Ether was a viral moment, before viral was a thing. And so was “Get Rich or Die Trying” by 50 Cent in 2003. I remember being in 7th grade and every kid at school had that CD. Kids were pulling it out under the desk, sneakily showing it off, like they had attained some magical treasure lol. There will never be nothing like physical media. You had to be here to experience that. Now, everything’s on the internet (YouTube). People don’t even watch music videos or listen to radio anymore, not even satellite radio. >>132007696yes unfortunately Jay had been around since 96 and his schtick was very much rooted in that era and hit its expiration date by 2004.
jay only made 2 good albums, reasonable doubt and blueprint
>>132007772true, lol that’s the only two albums on my jay-z playlist
>>132007750When you start matters a lot lol. Ice Cube is actually the same age as him but started in the late 80s with NWA and 90 as a solo act so he was washed just as Jay was blowing up.

>>132007801The 90s gangsta thing was really tired by 2003.
>>132007725Ether wasn't a good diss track and Stillmatic is a weed plate. I was a bigger Jay-Z fan than a Nas fan then and still am now. But I'll be honest. Nas is a better rapper. Jay-Z is just more consistent. Their clash makes total sense because they are similar men with similar values, ideas, and failure modes even if their fans like to pretend otherwise. Nas has a lot of great material that never made it past mixtapes or leaks and albums worth of self indulgent crap. Jay-Z usually didn't waste his best material like that but wasn't immune to the same self indulgent crap Nas did.
>>132008840Jigga became the much worse rich egomaniac down the road, so...
>>132008907That doesn't come through on his newer music as much as it did in his older music. Even if that aspect of his personality did become more pronounced. The way I see it Jay-Z no longer feels the need to prove anything to anyone like he once did. That doesn't mean that he doesn't get pissed off when disrespected. See the long drawn out war versus Cash Money.Jay-Z and Nas used to be fighting over credibility within NY. Now they both have it. They are friends. If you look at the broader picture there's something of a network of people who either were in that scene or share the values of that scene. I don't think it's like they hang out all the time or anything but they respect each other and would be able to communicate about any situations that come up.But seriously Nas has so much good abandoned material. It changed my opinion of him when I started to explore it.https://youtu.be/Y-GICW2TibE

>>132009536You might not like it but I was there and I didn't just go along with what everyone was saying. They made that beef out to be like it was the most important of all time. But it was disappointing. It was just the first major beef where Hot 97, NYC mixtapes, and the internet all aligned to turn it into a massive event. But the diss tracks are underwhelming. Shit like Cockafella and Gay-Z is what you would read in a 4chan post. There was nothing earth shattering in Ether, not like people pretended there was even though it was the stronger diss at that point. Supa Ugly was just an inferior version of Is That Yo Bitch, Jay-Z said nothing new and the track was ass. That chintzy synth beat on Ether wasn't any good either. As a diss it was no better than Takeover. We had two lyrical heavyweights in a mid off.
>>132009613https://youtu.be/lni81Dizh88Now I just want to draw attention to this for anyone who isn't a rap nerd. One of the single best tracks in Jay-Z's entire catalog and he threw it away. It was on the European version of Volume 3 but not the US version. The European version is the one that leaked on the internet first in 1999. Twista kills it too. Ignore the Memphis Bleek version.
>>132005919>>132007498>>132007970This.
>>132009729>Memphis Bleekit's funny that he unintentionally killed Bleek's career on the Diamonds of Sierra Leone remix
