Critically acclaimed forgotten rock from 30+ years ago.
Do you look at old books on rock like the trouser press or the allmusic guide and discover these great bands youve never heard of, that are sonically cooler than any rock out today?

I think I like LOAF

Buy an ad
No, really, start buying ads again. I miss that era
>>
Don't know why we have loaf and AnCo shilling like it's 2011 all over again, but old /mu/ isn't coming back

that said, if anyone remembers the previous thread - I chickened out on calling Numero Group headquarters, but emailed Ken Shipley about interest in reissuing The Raymond Brake. They're the best to come out of North Carolina during that time.

There's no reason to buy ads now.
I did so earlier this year and the amount of people here sitewide is probably 1/5 what it was back then (and back then wasn't anything special).
Outside of the generals, here there isn't more than 10-20 posters here.
If you want to discover actual great music beyond what /mu/core was and what rym is, just listen to these playlists

I just make custom charts on RYM for that.

There's stuff that the critics liked that are completely forgotten on rym though.
Like I've found several different critics' favorite albums, eps, singles during that era that have less than 20 ratings and no reviews on rym. Artists that don't even have 500 monthly listeners on Spotify.

there's stuff the critics panned that were actually excellent too. I don't care what they think.

>less than 20 ratings and no reviews on rym
That's where the fun RYM is. If a late 90s/00s indie album is also forgotten but was a semi popular band and has a low rating, you also hit jackpot. Old 00s RYM sucked off whatever critics said and had no original thought. But yes a mix of reading old music publications + RYM + lastfm/discogs is a great setup.

Numero is putting anything out these days, most is good but there ve been some duds , just send them a letter, what you linked is good
>>
>>131972388
For me it’s Passion Pit. Manners is a strong album but 95% of reviews stem from the early 2010s and contrarianism towards the previous hype. It’s completely forgotten and undervalued in online critic circles. This applies to many forgotten 2000s albums with thousands or reviews
>>
>>131972420
>Manners is a strong album
if that's the one with Swimming in the Flood and so on it is very good. the one after that I didn't like much
>>
>>131972398
They've been reissuing Ida and Tsunami records, so it's safe to assume they bought the rights to reissue albums Simple Machines put out back then. It's a matter of time and interest with The Raymond Brake, I believe. An email and maybe a call might suffice.

Into the motherfucking trash it goes. You have forfeited any integrity.
>>
>>131972420
that album's not completely forgotten as there was a Passion Pit reunion/revival style mini summer tour this past summer that I heard about thru the grapevine

yes that one

>>

Idk I made a thread 1-2 weeks ago because I discovered their discography and preferred it over Polvo. That seems to have awakened an ancient spammer
>>
>>131992568
BASED.
they deserve it.
>>
I wish LOAF was brown coded so they could get necrobumped for a month as well.
>>
>>131996964
I do too.
>>
Are Archers Of Loaf 3rd world core like the other 16 threads the brownoid is bumping?
>>
>>131999818
Nah they're just a good underrated band from Chapel Hill. Aged a lot better than most of their contemporaries. Have some Loaf anon.
>>
>>131999830
Don't mind if I do. Any other cool North Carolina bands like Superchunk or Polvo?
