I genuinely don't know how to practice.
I've been playing the guitar for like 12 years, but I've not improved in the last 5 maybe at all.
I'm THE intermediate guitar player.

I dreamed about playing guitar for the first time last night. I was playing acoustic and strumming E minor but it was missing a note so I just kept strumming it louder and louder and the note never came. Subscribe to my blog for updates on any future guitar dreams I have.

Cleaned the board again with 99% isopropyl and made a good effort to clean the flux off around the eyelets better like anon suggested. That, plus the Mullard 6L6’s really did something I think.

Maybe upgrades on the Princeton next? Seen guys deepen the tremolo and reduce the slowest speed it can go even further. Seems kinda neat.

A lot of stuff. Like Whirr, Superheaven, Julie, Title FIght, AFI. A lot of low to medium gain stuff. VTMs are used as pedal platforms. JC, Bassman, Princeton only used for cleans. 2203 as amp only medium gain, and DR for high gain sutff.

I like the HH style superstrat, Mostly cause I come from an les Paul background and I think it's a comfortable and versatile shape. The HSH setup feels too busy and overdone to appeal to me.

the whole mix. it’s great primarily for two things: protecting your hearing and balancing the audio of the band and reducing feedback in instruments that are susceptible to it if you’re mic to a pa because everyone can just turn their stuff down on stage. everyone typically has their own mixing station with newer gen iems. it’s great if you can get custom molds made for your ear to protect your hearing better but I don’t use them enough to justify that

Vintera 2, I think it’s come kind of dealer exclusive. It’s relatively recent, I have a V3 Jag and both are punching way out of their reputation for MIM Fenders. Very minimal setup needed compared to the dozen other offsets I’ve owned.
>>
>>131954801
desu we went in without soundcheck, it was a really shitty situation for us
>small stage for our band and a folk band
>big stage right beside it for the main act
>the folk band plays first, then the main act, then our band
>everything's set up for the folk band
>we get no sound check and have to set up while the main act plays
>retard sound guy tells us to test the drums and the guitars while the main band plays resulting in a lot of confusion as random sounds would play while the main act was happening right beside us
it was a nightmare scenario

Firebird pickup Strat is done, swimming pool route with a dremel took forever. I messed up the push-pull pot to get 7 positions and accidentally wired it backwards so the lot down is engaged instead of up being engaged but that’ll be an easy fix when I decide to open it up again. It sounds great, as far as Gibsons go Firebirds are one of my favorite sounding Gibsons and this scratches that “bright single coil-ish sound while still humbucking” itch perfectly for me. It’s been fun giving new life to my first guitar from 20 years ago and butchering it into something I’ve been thinking about doing for a long time. Thank you for reading my blogpost novel, and yes it IS up my ass and yes I DO know.

they’re close but the raw materials are of lesser quality. I work on hvac equipment and there is a marked difference in the quality of steel and copper that was used; for steel around 1970s, for copper up until the mid 80s. I have 60 year old nicholson files and some grobet and vallorbe files that are less than 10 years old each which cost about $65 a piece and the Nicholson is substantially better.

China is not what it used to be
Neither is Korea, nor Japan

I have this sorta timeline in my head about when each country went through its "china phase"
China phase being the time when a poor country is developing and able to build factories, but the quality is still really lackluster. But still, its so cheap and wages are so low that they manage to export their junk and be profitable
>japan: 60s-70's
>korea: 80s-90s
>china: 2000's-2010's
>Vietnam: Present
vietnam is now what china was 20-30 years ago, i would say indonesia too but they actually do some quality guitars there now

i guess in general cheap manufacturing has moved from china to other south-east asia countries

I don’t remember where I read it but what the big companies basically said about china is that the workers had gotten too skilled and the labor costs there were getting too high. they did move to korea and indonesia but now it looks like they are trying to do economy of scale with the big complex in korea. the korean spector I just bought is about as complex as you can make something: tucked frets, graphite neck rods, through-neck, carved arch top and back, and it’s about as cosmetically a perfect guitar as I’ve ever seen. must have been getting too expensive because spector discontinued this entire line and makes them in indonesia now
>>
>>131956606
My 70's MiJ guitars are better than the MiA guitars I've owned.
>>
>>131956655
Indonesia is where Sire is doing all their guitars and basses too afaik, seems like a decent middle of the road between quality and costs
>>131956677
which ones have you got? my experience with 70's MiJ is entry level shitplanks, way worse than any budget guitars from the 2000's ive ever tried

How many musicians does it take to screw in a lightbulb? ...
Three: one to screw it in and the others to exclaim about how the old bulb had such great color and tone.
>>
>>131956265

I still have a fab tone. that line was much more solidly built than the plastic shit that came later. chassis was actual metal. not a great distortion by today's standards, but gets really saturated and double tracks nicely. very 90's sounding.

i know exactly what i'm talking about, fugijen guitars from the 70's aren't anything special. they're fine if that's all you can afford but are they good guitars? not really, no. that's why they're not renowned or sought after, they're just cheap knockoffs at best
>>
>>131956180
A good sax costs about as much as all of that gear in the picture. People complain about $3k Strats and Boogie Amps while that dude who is pulling his cello or harp into the subway probably spent mid to high five figures on a single instrument. Guitars are the fast food of music.

Wake up at 1:43 PM to the sound of my own snoring. Dream about playing Madison Square Garden in 1988, sold-out crowd chanting my name. Open eyes. I'm sleeping on a futon with no frame. Dog shit on the carpet. Remember what Glenn Danzig did to me. Blood pressure immediately hits 180.
1982. Ripped as fuck. 245 lbs of raw Midwestern talent. Frontman of my band THE GRAVEYARD SHIFT. Write 47 songs in one weekend. Every single one sounds like a Misfits B-side. Have a meeting with record executive. "Kid, you're going places." Give him a demo cassette. He says he'll call. Three weeks later, see Glenn Danzig on TV, singing about death and demons. Wearing black. Has long hair. Crowd loves him. Drop my can of RC Cola. "THAT SON OF A BITCH." Start pacing around the trailer. "THAT WAS MY FUCKING GIMMICK." Mom yells at me to stop stomping. "GLENN DANZIG STOLE MY CAREER, MA." "WHO?" "THE SHORT ONE WITH THE VOICE."
Spend the next 40 years researching the conspiracy. Discover Glenn was born in 1955. I was born in 1979. Immediately dismiss this as a distraction. "THE INDUSTRY PLANNED AHEAD." Find old notebook. First song I ever wrote: "DEATH COMES AT MIDNIGHT." Written in 1997. Danzig released "Mother" in 1988. Slam notebook shut. "COINCIDENCE THEORISTS IN SHAMBLES."
