its the musescore default. I'm not buying "real instruments" if its just going to gaslight me even more that the music sounds professional. If anything I need to go back to really shitty soundfonts so I know what the notes on the page sound like in their most distilled form.

I usually start the day by doing some some improvs on piano and the stuff I come up with is way better than when im sitting in front of a DAW trying to write music.

best thing to do as a substitute is learn through textbooks. find reading lists for composition courses and then find free pdfs online. the value of mentorship can't be understated but it's also not impossible to get good without it
