when does it stop feeling like I’m just making noise and start to actually make music

I’ve heard people tell me the initial hump is six months

I’m not getting impatient I just wanna know if I am practicing efficiently and hitting the milestones in time
>>
>>131934222
took me about 3 years practicing almost daily
>>
>>131934222
people in /gg/ vastly overstate their abilities. depending on the way you practice you could slightly alter melodies or comp someone on a very basic level at a jam session in 8-12 months but it’s very rudimentary. like the o th er guy said to 2-3 years to build a decent vocabulary and be fluent with it. fastest way is to build your repertoire by actually learning songs not riffs and in time to a metronome. you could try another path but it will eventually circle back to what I posted above.
>>
I had the jam with my new drummer. All was cool, drummer was good, songs we played were played well, originals and jams on song ideas went well too.
>>
>>131934844
Hell yeah brother keep rockin
>>
>>131934864
Cheers anon. I haven't been in a practice session since about 2019, and that band was not for me at all. Drummer can play, I can play, just need to find a fucking bass player or at least a failed guitarist I can bully into playing my bass.
>>
I got no jams, got no drummer
>>
>>131934925
guitarists make terrible bassists unless you’re playing very basic music like punk or metal. the instruments are two different schools of thought when it comes to accompaniment
>>
>>131934925
>Spend decades mastering the bass guitar
>Most people only want a failed guitarist playing bass in their band
Life is cruel
>>
>>131934960
>>131934972
Hey, I want a proper bassist, but apparently all the real bass players just want to play funk or soul in my area.
>>
>>131934222
If your ears aren't trained you aren't making music. If your ears are trained and you know the fretboard and you know what everything is going to sound like before you play it then you are making music. Simple as.

I just picked up this 1979 Twin Reverb from a local guitar shop. $1600, has orange frame JBL D120f speakers in them. This amp is the most cosmetically pristine vintage fender I’ve ever seen. Apparently it’s only had one owner, the guy bought it brand new in the 70s and purchased the JBLs immediately afterward since fender had some overstock of the D120f speakers. He mostly kept it in his house except for a few shows he played with a country band. He also converted the circuit to be 1960s blackface Twin. This is probably the best sounding fender I’ve ever played.
If you are a young guitarist who is playing in heavy or loud rock bands, keep in mind that there is a plethora of 1970s Twin Reverbs for insanely affordable prices. You can easily find one for $900 in good condition. There is not a better deal for such an incredible sounding, versatile amp that is handwired. The only reason this one was $1600 is because of the JBL speakers and pristine cosmetic condition, and even so that price is pretty fucking good for what you’re getting. I could sell these JBLs for $700-900 and install some new British voiced speakers if I want to play heavy rock stuff. Do not ever let demoralizing faggots sway you from these vintage Twins. 8 times out of 10 someone is going to tell you, “it’s too loud, it’s too heavy”. If you’re a young dude, none of those things should even be a concern for you. The 70s Twins have a master volume knob for dialing in a reasonable volume, and 70-85 pounds is really not bad for how much power you get with these things. Don’t be a pussy

Is it worth it to buy a bass guitar after years of e-guitar? I miss the joy and drive I've had in my teenager days with my guitar playing for hours nonstop and having the best time of my life. Would buying a bass guitar sparkle that joy a bit again? Is it fun to sink into the sofa and play? My plan is to learn to play along Elvis from memphis album:

Silverface era Fender amps do be underrated, though more and more people are starting to catch on and they're raising in price slowly.

They sound sweet on their own but can also be easily convert to BF circuits if that's more your speed. Only issue is their prone to noise and you gotta stay ontop of the electrolytics.
>>
Ever build a guitar from one of the cheap ($100-200) kits? I'm tempted to have something I can get creative with some carving & painting on, as long as the kits themselves produce a genuinely workable instrument without having to swap so many parts you end up with a $600 guitar anyway.
>>
>>131942554

The owner converted it to blackface and replaced the caps in 2013 and it sounds amazing. I'm going to be using this thing for an Oh Sees Ty Segall influenced garage rock band. Its going to be a blast
