Second listen for this. I would've preferred more heavy cuts like Knock You Out or Hang 'Em High, and Earthshaker not being here is a downright crime, but the tracklist is still solid and Meniketti's at the top of his game. Nominating.

I listened to that for the first time the other day. It was fucking amazing, dude. I only had one minor, minor issue and that was Bruce completely fucks up that high note in Aces High's final chorus, sounds like he shredded his throat there.
    >>
    >>131890218
To me, it sounded like one of his snarls which he does on Moonchild
Also while I'm at it, Alive in Athens and Live Evil should absolutely be recommended live metal albums
Alive in Athens in particular. Like, you hear that album and you think, "holy shit, that arena must have been electric" and then you see the video and it's just a tiny fucking club

    that's surprising
you could at least check out Night of the Stormrider for even more riffage, but Matt Barlow, the longtime vocalist, started on Burnt Offerings all the way to Horror Show before returning for a meh reunion in 2008
They also re-recorded most of the first two albums with Barlow on pic related, but it's not necessarily an improvement

Tony Iommi’s Final Goodbye to Ozzy Osbourne: The Painful Reality Behind the Legend

For Tony Iommi, seeing Ozzy Osbourne in his final years meant confronting a heartbreaking reality: the man who once seemed indestructible had become increasingly frail.

The Prince of Darkness, famous for his wild performances and unmistakable voice, had endured years of serious health problems. Parkinson’s disease, spinal injuries and multiple operations had taken a devastating toll, leaving him with severely limited mobility and dependent on assistance in everyday life.

The contrast with the energetic frontman who once ruled the stage was painful. His body had been through years of illness, and the independence he once took for granted had diminished.

There have also been claims about Ozzy requiring diapers or incontinence products in his later years. Without a reliable source confirming this detail, however, it would be unfair to present it as an established fact or claim that Tony Iommi personally witnessed it.

For Iommi, who had known Ozzy since Black Sabbath’s beginnings in Birmingham, the sight of his old friend struggling with his health would have carried a special sadness. They had helped change music forever, sharing decades of triumphs, conflicts and memories.

Ozzy died on July 22, 2025, aged 76, just weeks after Black Sabbath’s farewell concert.

The man who once roared before millions was gone. Behind the legend was a human being whose body had suffered, whose strength had faded and whose final years were a reminder that even rock gods cannot outrun mortality.

The music remains. The loss is permanent.

Looking for some solid AOR/Metal crossovers, folks. The older, the better. I'm thinking stuff that's in the vein of the following:

I know Icon and like that album. Reminds me a lot of Europe but more riff forward.

I'm looking for Heavy Metal with more prominent synths and big choruses that are commonly featured in AOR. Power Metal is fine so long as it's not too flowery. Heavy riffs plus epic synths:

in that case, i reckon it's because both scenes largely did not like each other. before the internet era you largely had to conform to whatever your friends listened to or you got ridiculed. if you liked metallica and poison, that was a problem and you would get bullied for it. it was probably hard to get off the ground a band that combined both of them.

only band i can think of off the top of my head is WASP but even then they're more just straight heavy metal that embraced the glam aesthetic.

Why do so many people neglect Inside the Electric Circus from W.A.S.P.'s classic era? Admittedly, I haven't spun The Last Command as much, and when put next to The Headless Children and the debut, it would pale in comparison, but even so, it's got these great tunes:

    >What do you guys think of the New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal (NWOTHM)?
Not much, because I don't listen to them that often. I've heard plenty of good records but there's only two bands that stick out to me in my head for being exceptionally good: Riot City and Flight.
    >>
    >>131922451
That's fair, and I can't believe I forgot to include Riot City.

I agree, I enjoy it when I think to look it up and these bands seem good live, I saw Spirit Adrift open for Cryptopsy/Necrot and they were great. But when I really want to listen to my favorite stuff I'm more into blackened doom/sludge. NWOTHM is more of a fun curiosity for me.

For albums that I absolutely love (or just find for cheap out in the wild) I have a dedicated setup. Technics CD changer, a Pioneer receiver, some nice Scott speakers, an equalizer, a tape deck (though I don't use it much) and some other things. A good quality master on disc will always sound better than the lossless digital equivalent. The sound is just given more room to breathe imo.

    >>
    >>131924608
Yeah, that was the argument back in the day (can't believe I'm saying this) about mp3s, the sound loss. Especially if you combine it with what are essentially portable ways to listen to music i.e. headphones, small speakers and bluetooth etc. Now that I'm a poorfag I miss having my stereo.

Beat Jack Black within an inch of his life. Pour water on him, let him rest for half an hour, give him some food and when he's able to talk, start again.
    >>
    >>131922383
Like with everything, it has to be done right. Speaking of Enforcer, have you checked the guitarist's side project, Black Trip? Their album Goin' Under is full of bangers.
    >>
    >>131926240
Oh MP3's, no question they're worse than a disc. But I'm talking just digital files in general. I have a pretty good set of headphones, and plenty of lossless copies of albums; and not many of them (the ones that I have in my collection, anyway) sound as good as on my stereo with an original pressing CD. Like that was the best quality I've ever heard Blackout in, it sounded fucking amazing. Could be placebo, but I swear it just sounds more lively.

Oh I understand, you have a more nuanced take on that. Not sure I can speak with conviction about it, but I can tell you that CDs and stereos had good quality. I don't know how vinyls sounded, grew up in the 90s.

    > I don't know how vinyls sounded, grew up in the 90s.
I didn't grow up in the vinyl times either, but I have listened to them on turntables in passing (when at retro shops and whatnot). IMO it sounded pretty good but heavily depended on the quality of the record being played, and most of what they played was easy listening, lounge type stuff. I think the one time that I did hear a rock album on vinyl it didn't really sound all that different from a good quality cassette.

One needs also the places where you can blast your music, like rock bars, record stores or just a solid basement or garage with friends.
    >>
    >>131926914
I'd also add that you should deliberately try and make the space where you want to blast cramped. I can't explain it, but the area around my setup has so much shit that it actually amplifies the bass.

Sonically this sounds outstanding, one of the best live albums that I've heard if we're talking pure sound. But I just don't like Gary Barden on most of these songs. I think I'd like this more if it were say, Bonnet on vocals instead.

Hungarian band Titkolt Ellenállás also blatantly ripped off "Death or Glory" by Holocaust. The band likely discovered it by way of Six Feet Under considering that "Kitartás!" is tuned to the cover's exact same key:

Well, Zep had two albums out already by the time Sabbath debuted. I would argue that Zeppelin had a sound that had energy and was more distanced from the 60s english blues-rock and rock scene. It was like the first band to come after Hendrix and Cream. So in one way they had an audience, but compositionally they were all over the place. They had Metallica-tier management though.
Sabbath had a distinct sound. It owed to blues directly, but you could tell it was Sabbath from any song. Vocals were unrefined, which added to the blasphemous attitude (towards aesthetic standards), whereas Zeppelin would compose lighter songs, faster songs and they were uneven in general with their heaviness. They did however influence Sabbath of course, as we know Paranoid was stolen from Dazed and Confused, to also address--->>>131948950

    >>131887909
Instrumentally this album's very solid, there's lots of great riffing and some cool drum parts. But there's three knocks against this record: a subpar vocalist who audibly strains to get higher notes, a quite frankly bad production job where the guitars and vocals constantly battle each other for dominance, and inconsistent songwriting. Granted, the songwriting isn't usually that poor, and more often than not it's the first two problems that bump a couple of these songs down, but it's still an issue regardless. And I'll just say again: I don't like this vocalist. He's fine in the low-mid range, but when he tries to go high (which he does a lot) it sounds very grating. His performance actively sabotages pretty much every song on this record.

However, I still consider this a decent album in spite of its flaws. The instrumentation really is worth listening to. And to be fair, there are a FEW songs that manage to not suffer as much as the rest. Though those problems are still present, and these would be considerably better songs if they weren't.

Why wouldn't Symphony X, Fates Warning, Dream Theater etc. be approved? This is the thread for metal that doesn't sound like shit (no screaming, no dissoshit).

That was a comment more on Progressive Metal being heterogenous than it was about the acceptability of those bands. Those bands mentioned are all obviously acceptable for this general than Opeth, Death, Mastodon, Gojira, Atheist, maudlin of the Well, Ved Buens Ende or Sigh.

I have to agree, his voice just sounded fuller. But Marc's voice was also suitable for the 2010s albums on which they changed their style.

People have fatigue and USAID money is gone. Rap isn't cool anymore. People are listening to country and older rock again.

    >Rap isn't cool anymore. People are listening to country and older rock again.

    >>132007606 here, You say that because you're getting older and not around young people. In college, they're all still partying and listening to rap.

But it starts to feel pretty ridiculous getting into your late 20s/30s with professional jobs and possibly kids putting on NBA Youngboy at your Halloween party. Which is why the default adult normalfag music is country and older rock like you said. Maybe some older rap out of nostalgia

Metal is seen as edgy cringe teenage shit, but one of the best albums of the year is by a 78 year old man.

In my recurring dreams Jack Black opens the Lament Configuration and the Cenobites simply torture him in eternity, starting by cutting his tongue in pieces and making him forcefully swallow the pieces. Then, tongueless, they hang him by stretched limbs, stretched to the point where his balls start cramping and a friendly slap in the back would dislocate his shoulders, and then proceed to whip him on his naked bacon back, forcing him to say, in tongueless, bloody-mouth agony, "I love Stevie Nicks!" inbetween whips. And as he, weeping and then sobbing harder and harder, cries out "I WOV KEEVIE NIKP" spitting droplets of blood mixed with saliva, the Cenobites are having hearty laughs.
