Finally watched all of Ultraman '66. The first 8-9 episodes and the final 7-8 episodes were good but the rest were really disappointing. They really dropped the ball with the writing. Why bother teasing a mystery if the kaiju behind it is going to be revealed in the very next scene? I can respect its creativity and ambition and its place in toku history, but overall its D-tier.Watching Ultraseven now and the jump in quality is insane.

Maybe a hot take, but I think Return of Ultraman is overrated. Don't get me wrong, its a fun, well made show for the most part with some absolutely fantastic select episodes, but I've seen it considered the best Showa Ultra alongside OG Man and Seven and it really doesn't reach the heights of those shows in my opinion.

The problem with post-Blazar shows is their complete lack of focus on their toylines. The collectables are weak when they're actually present and there isn't much incentive to want anything beyond the changer and the basic items. Hell, all Teo has is the changer because there are no support mecha or vehicles, no alternate forms, no collectables, and no weapons. You can't be surprised that toy sales are down when there are no toys.
