Lovecraft is slop
You want my thoughts? MY thoughts? my THOUGHTS? Who are you to want MY THOUGHTS?
>>25620616people who use neologisms are single celled parasites in the gut of a fat retarded beached whale
I refuse to read books by American authors
>>25620610No joke, a lot of times I'll be in bed browsing my phone and next thing I know I'm waking up and pulled up is the search bar with gibberish or copy+pasted whatever I was reading or a giant repeat of letters in a text to someone.
>>25620634Oh look, another blown the fuck out lovecraft shitswiller!
>>25620644i've read just one of his short stories, what are you screeching about?

Smooth and smart or lame and cuck to write my name and number on an index card and hand it to a girl on the bus?
>>25620654Then shut the fuck up??? The word "slop" isn't a neologism, retard. It's a word that has existed for at least 500 years.
>>25620652I hope you're be seeing her again on the regular.
>>25620657turn your monitor on
>>25620652 >the old Sopranos distractionYeah I knew a guy who did this once, its real easy to distract yourself from medical help by thinking of yourself as some sort of sexual operator. Anyways, about your condition?
I hope this years black friday deals will be favorable towards my new venture of trying out bookbinding
>>25620662not as a braindead internet coverall suffix, cunthole
>>25620677You're mad as fuck, lol. Calm down, bitch boy.
Well, that’s what happens when you keep fleeing to smaller and smaller environments for unwillingness to pay reality its dues (in this case tolerate female cringe), you become a tiny thin-skinned hermaphroditic little amphibian, and then you get caught and have to pay anyways. That’s how the Axolotl was born from a God, and what has happened to you. ‘Stay out of my puddle!’
>>25620681you type very gay and passive aggressive
>>25620694Hmm, nice.
>>25620695>yeah well.... you type weird! This is you firing on all cylinders, huh? Pathetic.
>>25620709>yeah well... you sound mad! This is you firing on all cylinders, huh? Pathetic.
You guys heard the news? another geezer just died. And everybody is doing that "empathy" schtick for virtual validation. Not me. Idc
>>25620734Damn that sucks. Not me though, I'm gonna live forever.
spasibo!
>>25620734I don't watch English-speaking/Anglo media so I don't really care much, but I have condolences for his family.
>>25620724>Resorts to parroting I'm disappointed in (You)
You know what? You know what?I think we can all use a little mental break from all this 'off our meds and cynically attacking reality indiscriminately from all directions' thing.I want everyone here to write at least one single post coming from a personal perspective of comfort or joy or appreciation, that involves a personal experience and possibly one example of a personal sense. Here, I'll startI love the way olive oil and garlic heats up in a hot pan. Before you even add anything else, it fills the room with a smell of comfort and savoriness that turns the entire cooking experience into a matter of foreplay and mood-creating for the whole house. Right now I'm imagining placing a butterflied chicken breast, in there. Probably wouldn't need much more than salt and pepper, on all that.
>>25620603Women with big noses are super hot and I will die on this hill.
>>25620734There's like a million old geezers dying every day, you're gonna have to be more specific.

>>25620782no need for balls to the wall. Basic counterargument will do.

>>25620755I like it when it drizzles. I think it feels like a bunch of little kisses on my face. The apple tree in our driveway is tiny and the apples it grows are also tiny, but they're so sweet and crunchy. When I look out the window and see the little apple tree and all the little apples, I think "what a wonderful thing, that I have such tasty apples so close by".And when I wake up, and my cat is laying next to me, and all stretched out and comfortable, I think, "I'm so happy that he feels safe next to me".

>>25620603Indifferent to the genius of a place, the Arian-German is likewise indifferent to nationalities, harboring neither love nor hatred for them—save insofar as the environments from which they emerge relate to his own person. At first glance, he views all strangers—even those of his own people—in much the same light; and, setting aside the superiority he arrogates to himself, as well as a certain partiality toward his own kin, he remains largely free of innate prejudices against those he encounters, no matter how distant the lands from which they may have come. Thus, should they demonstrate genuine merit, he will not hesitate to acknowledge its value. So did Gobineau win and what was his endgame?
>the Arian-German>ArianStopped reading right there.
I have a new policy proposal, it's called reverse reparations. Sometimes suggested my leftist and black academics is the idea white people in the United States should compensate blacks for the atrocity of slavery. I say, hogwash! For it was white people who not only ended slavery, but died fighting to end it. Instead, black Americans should compensate white Americans for the freedoms and benefits of civil society they now enjoy.

It’s kind of a pinging submarine echolocation sound that rings back into me across distant inland ocean shores, doc, it’s driving me crazy
>>25620935Interestingly enough it was only the Saxon-black societies that actually achieved real social revolutions, rather than the mere abolishment of the colonial order or the complete return towards African barbary. But it's the truth, South Africa didn't just abolish apartheid, it went through a real social revolution, and the same can be said about the American South. Gobineau would have found the explanation in the Anglo-Saxon variety of the white is more actually Aryan and thus still capable of social renewal compared to the crippled continentards of the white race.
>>25620945Pay up, mister! What is your pleasant sensory perception!?
Anyone else here giving out candy for Halloween? I'll be reading a book right next to my front door for a few hours on Saturday evening.
>>25620958No, I'm not American
>>25620958No I'm actually going to Gods of Chaos Haloween in Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom to nuke the building with DJ Smokey so meet me there and we'll make your eardrums bleed

>>25620958Yes, I actually decorated outside this time.
I will have no children
>>25620953Ugh, I don’t have many of these to be honest. Maybe to craft something as I watch something else. It doesn’t kick in every time, and feels the best of course when I start something new. However, it’s difficult to describe, it feels like completely switching off from reality. My hands are busy, and my mind is busy, nothing that’s to do with real life problems can reach me there. It feels very relaxing.
>>25620603Any other anons garbage at their job, how do you cope?

Working in a grocery store you observe and interact with the best and the worst of people in a relatively inconsequential setting. It can be pretty educational and character building if you're antisocial and sensitive to the actions of others. I don't recommend it for more than a year though.

>>25620958Yup, every year. I live in Germany, so not a lot of kids come by, but I grew up in America. Not giving out candy just doesn't feel right.

I think my paranoia is making me a bad person. Mom emailed me saying it was something urgent and to contact her ASAP.When I did I got no response for only a single day. From that time I went from worried to resentful thinking she was playing some sort of mind games and being manipulative. When she finally got back to me she explained she was panicked over a scam call saying it was me (it wasn't) and begging her for money. Thus I feel like a total asshole for suspecting her when she did nothing wrong, and was just double checking that I was actually alright and not injured like the scammer said I was. I hate that I default to expecting the worst from people, even my mom.I also hate scammers so much. Dickheads need to leave my mom alone and keep my name out of their fucking mouth.

I wish I grew up with a real mother or father. My grandmother has severe depression and likes to read, and I may be forced to stay with her as I have nowhere to go. I am 27 now, and the last time I saw her was at 7, so it has been a long time. Just the thought of having someone I can behave normally towards, who I have not been forced to create a persona to entertain, gives me a certain level of excitement. It spirals until I think deranged things like hugging or lying in bed with my grandmother and being able to enjoy human company. But I doubt it. I am probably clinically insane. She would think I am ridiculous. I will be a mask.

I just crossed paths twice with my ex situationship after she left me out of the blue. It's been like a month or so and I knew the moment was going to come. We didnt exchange any words. It did of course make a small emotional impact and I felt a bit hurt but at the same time I'm glad to be over it. I don't know, she treated me very badly and I wouldn't want to go back with her but at the same time there's a small part of me that wishes she would reach out and mend things. I don't think she cares at all though and she has probably mostly forgotten about my existence. Anyways, I'm just processing this feeling and I will use this thread as emotional toilet paper. >>25622455I'm a Catholic in a heavy Catholic area and we literally carry Halloween. Halloween is basically a Catholic Holiday here, every church celebrates it. The two biggest Halloween neighborhood parties by me are right behind two Catholic churches. It's perfect for Catholics because we have all the gothic tradition but also because it's the eve of All Saints Day. Just like Catholic areas party on Fat Tuesday before Ash Wed, same with Halloween and All Saints DayBut there is a movement among non-denominational and Baptist churches to cancel Halloween and replace it with muh feels Harvest Fests and Fall Fests and pumpkin patches. We all love those too but don't cancel Horror Night & Costume Night just because you don't like the genre

>>25622409If you say what kind of things you like to read now people can give you better advice. If sampling different prose authors is like listening to different sorts of music then maybe reading different poets is like trying different food -- people have stronger reactions to food they don't like and often have narrower preferences in food vs being generally more accepting of different music and having broader taste in music. One poem that is almost universally liked and respected and which is also important to the history of literature is Paradise Lost by Milton. Less universally liked but almost as important and much freer and human in feel is Leaves of Grass by Whitman. Weaker poetically and in influence but full of iconoclastic meaning and mission is William Blake, where for a first work probably you read Innocent and Experience -- which is also much shorter than the other two. I'll stop with those three. There are a lot of poets people on this board would feel it is insane to skip over to get to Whitman or Blake. There is a lot of poetry that's closer to us in time that would maybe be a much easier start than those three. But I think everyone who is well read as far as English literature goes should have absolutely unquestionably have read those three works, even if they hated them, so they are safe recommendations in that regard. Maybe especially Milton.
>>25622484USA obviously, the country that invented Modern Halloween, so it goes with our patriotic duty too as Halloween is a national holiday here. Every shop or store has Halloween stuff all Oct, every home, school, business and church celebrates Halloween except the non-denominational and Baptist ones but they still give out candy if you go by. They just have a normal kids fair other than that with bounce houses and such
>>25622491Do mutts make a distinction between shop and store? Are they different facilities? We don't have any 'stores' in merry old England.

That should be one of your main targets when checking your area to see all the parties
>>25622491Well I'm Italian and for some reason Halloween is not really as celebrated as in other countries, even if we're overwhelmingly Catholic. I don't think I've ever seen decorations outside.
>>25622498It's being celebrated hard in the Celtic countries. Northern Ireland claims to have European biggest Halloween festival and Edinburgh has the legendary Celtic fire festival

>>25622497So, "yes", interesting: a store is anything larger than a local shop.
>>25622504Not necessarily because the phrase "going to the store" is so common now it just means "going shopping, going to run errands" But yes in general "shop" means a mom & pop while "store" implies a corporate chain. There are always exceptions like Bill's Dry Goods Store out in some Western town in Wyoming or something
>>25622503>anything else you'd like to knowJust as much as you're comfortable sharing, really. The more I have to work with, the smoother the onboarding process will be. With the going exchange rate that would be 1.34 USD per day.Let me know, thanks!
>>25622509I'll have to have a think re: penis size. I've masturbated mine into more of a "pulp", see; I'm not sure how I would go about measuring it. I will try to provide an illustrated diagram. >>25622492It's not a hard line thing, but generally in the US a shop is a smaller, more specialized thing and a store is a bigger more generalized place to buy stuff. There are also certain phrases that only really take one word out the other. Like you would always say "I'm going to the store" rather than "I'm going to the shop" even if the place you are going to is 100% a shop (small, privately owned place selling books or coffee) rather than 100% a store (Walmart). In fact, "I'm going to the shop" in America actually probably means "I'm going to the place where I make and assemble furniture, do welding, or work on cars for income" more often than it means you plan to buy something, unless the American saying it was recently watching a bunch of British TV or something. Also it may vary regionally, maybe there is some part of the US where they call everything a shop or whatever and I just have forgotten to consider that. I speak what's considered the most standard sort of American English though so you shouldn't find overwhelming disagreement about what I've said in this post.Lastly there are giant places selling many different things in the US that have "shop" included in their name. A lot of musicians traveling through the US from Australia seem to love to to Bass Pro Shop and get one of their logo hats to take home. A Bass Pro Shop is the size of a Tesco at least and sells everything from guns to fishing rods to small boats to clothing to charcoal grills, anything remotely related to outdoor activities. The "shop" in their name is meant to allude to them being specialized and to call a kind of small country sweetness to mind, which is something outdoor enthusiasts are fond of as a demographic. So it's called Bass Pro Shop, but everyone knows it's 100% a store, not a shop. 100% some B tier comedian has a bit about exactly that.
>>25622525Interesting, thanks.
>>25622514That sounds just fine, Jasper, I'll await your next post.re the state of your penis: f it has taken on more of a liquid form, you could just measure its viscosity (in cP, please) and I'm sure the egg heads at corporate would be able to work with that ;-)
>>25622498American holidays get picked up to varying degrees in other countries, but I will say that while nobody cares about Christmas in Asia a lot of countries there do a bit of stuff for Halloween. They like the costumes, even if they don't decorate their yard or do the candy thing. In the US most of our holidays are a thing you do with family. Only really St Patrick's Day and Halloween stop being holidays if they aren't celebrated with the community. Even New Year's you can just do in the house with your family, but Halloween isn't Halloween if you don't give kids candy or go out to a bar, same with St Patrick's. You have to leave the house or people have to come to your house if you're going to participate.Halloween is good because the community aspect and slight expectation that you be impish rather than strictly nice makes it fairly unique, especially here where we don't usually interact with our community and are generally supposed to be somewhat upright and rigid when we do.
>>25622527Just wanted to add that the advertising sense of shop vs store works both ways. You might call your book selling business a "book shop" if you are trying to impress upon people that it is cute, cozy, specialized, friendly. You might call it a "book store" if it is large, covers many subjects, also includes a coffee counter, has lots of free parking out front. The second phrase is more common here than the first and is more normal, but that's pretty much the difference in the feel of those words to an American. A girl is more likely to put pictures of her visit to a shop on her Pinterest page than she would of a store.
>>25622538I’m a bit envious. In my area the closest equivalent of that happens on Christmas eve - kids go out, sing carols and get candy and money. Some even go as far as wearing costumes, though they are usually traditional characters. When I was a kid I would normally go to grandmas and aunt/uncle’s houses, but some do that randomly around strangers houses. Once I witnessed kids successfully caroling at a cafe, and a fairly posh one to mention, smart move on their part.We don’t really have Halloween as a tradition, it’s rather something people adopted from the West to boost up the business on the occasion. Fun observation - there isn’t many Jack-o-lanterns here, it’s mostly whole pumpkins used as a decor. I feel like people probably cannot stomach wasting an entire pumpkin merely for decoration, so these will be happily repurposed on November 1 :D

>>25622501It's Celtic New Year, they basically invented Halloween. The US commercial version takes a lot of the Irish and Scottish versions (the laterns in pumpkins/turnips, the going house to house dressed as scary things to demand treats, or to play a trick on people who are too antisocial to have sweets) but don't adopt a lot of the stuff like barm brack that tells your future (a fruitcake loaf with tokens in it which tell you if you get married or rich or poor depending on what gets in your slice) and it's 50/50 if they do a lot of the party games (like bobbing for apples)
>>25622558The house my family lived in the longest was, when we moved into it, in a neighborhood full of kids. My dad fucking loved getting candy and sitting by the door and handing out candy to the kids and chatting with them briefly while their parents looked on happily in the background. Over time the neighborhood grew older and the kids disappeared out of it, so by the time he retired he would still be sitting in a chair over by the door with the porch light on (you turn on the light to let kids know you are participating, if the light is off you cannot expect to get candy at that house) but only one or two groups of kids would come by which he would be disappointed about. A few times when I was a kid we went trick or treating (you have to say "Trick or treat!" when they open the door to initiate the candy getting ceremony) with friends. One year when out with my friends mom we went by a house of some people she didn't get along with. She had brought a bag of popcorn kernels and gave it to us to sprinkle around on her door step and sidewalk to express that she didn't like them in a non-damaging way. Traditionally teenagers have aged out of being able to get candy on the holiday, so they celebrate it with similar acts of mild vandalism, such as smashing up people's jack o lanterns or throwing toilet paper rolls over the trees in their yard ("toilet papering") to make a mess that the owners will have to clean up, plus it's destructive and therefore implicitly fun.I also had the good fortune to live in one of NYC's Chinatowns for a while. Lots of Chinese rather than English signage, restaurants by Chinese for Chinese, that kind of place. The kids there came from parents who weren't born in the US but these kids grew up as American as I did, with their parents making the extreme kind of effort and sacrifice it takes to afford to raise a family at NYC prices. Halloween was a bit of a conundrum for them because their parents didn't really give a shit about it or understand it, nor were there private homes in the area to trick or treat at (it was all apartments or businesses). The solution was to gather a group of people around the one kid whose parents had sprung for a mask or a minimal costume, put him in the front, and then go to businesses in the area and trick or treat that way. So you had these herds if visibly Chinese kids speaking excited NYC accented English to each other, only one of them in costume but all of them with bags, who would all yell "Trick or treat!" together and all get candy for it. The people running the shops that day were the younger generation of the families that operated them -- even if Dad usually manned the register on Halloween it was the son that was up there because he was raised in NYC like these kids were, and he understood what Halloween was like for them -- they weren't going to hassle the kids without a costume about it because they were those kids, or their friends were.
>>25622605Around Louisiana there's a tradition where a small plastic baby is baked into a cake that is eaten around Fat Tuesday sometime, in forget exactly when. If you get the slice of cake with the baby in it you'll be the next person at the party to conceive. In practice that means you monitor whether the baby has shown up yet or not and people stop eating the cake when it's getting down to just a few baby having slices left. But that tradition is unique to that area as far as the US goes, as far as I'm aware.

>>25622645I think both of those traditions rely on Catholic marriage/life being the norm, eg the odds in the barm brack tokens are weighed heavily towards you'll marry and be poor/beaten, which is pretty good guess for Catholic Ireland when the tradition started. It also explains why it's rarer and rarer to have the token for going into a religious order within the year in the brack, as taking vows became rarer in general society. I'd assume Louisiana's French Catholic background has a lot to do with the babymaking cake.

A big boobied, curvy, well-dressed woman who was setting up for a seminar at my church where I work got all close up to me and started playing with her hair as soon as I entered the room and said hello to me, she smelled nice and admittedly, had a wonderful physique but she had a big forehead and I didn't like that she wore glasses, I was polite and short with my interaction with her and dutifully went about my work. She closed the door to the room she was using and I never saw her again.I think about that pretty often. Autism is fucking hell. I'm too picky for my own good, she had a sincerely fuckable, pleasantly thicc body.Maybe I'm gay and I just don't realize it...
>>25622645> a small plastic baby is baked into a cakeYou mean not literally baked, but places between layers? And also, does that cake only get eaten by women?
>>25622733>Big forehead >GlassesYou dodged a bullet bucko.
>>25622744pls, lasik and bangs and anon would be married with three fivehead kids
>>25622739No it gets mixed in with the batter and then baked. The inside of the cake doesn't get as hot as the oven and before you bake it you try to center the baby in its part of the ring shaped mold usually used for these cakes. Maybe they sell special food safe plastic babies for this purpose these days, maybe they used to use a coin or something else in the old days before there were plastic babies. All that I don't know.If a man gets the baby then he will be the next person at the party to conceive a baby. Conception is a two party activity.
>>25622724All seems reasonable to me. It's also probably limited to a specific group of people in Louisiana. I don't have all the details as I'm not from there, this is how it was explained to me by someone from there at a party in Las Vegas where they had brought the traditional baby cake along with them. There are a lot of people from the New Orleans area who have relocated to Vegas, which is maybe not a surprise.
I just saw in a commercial for detergent you're supposed to use cold water for laundry. My mother always said cold was for delicate clothes like her woman's clothes, so for mine I should do warm. Thoughts? I started a load right now and did warm because I included a smelly towel in it.
>>25622765In Ireland they usually only sell the barm brack with a ring because of food safety laws where they're concerned people might swallow the other tokens/be allergic to the tokens. It's stuff like a rag and bean and stick, so apparently the ring was the only thing that didn't count as a big enough choking risk. Homemade cakes still include the other tokens if you want to put them in, but I don't think I've ever seen or heard of plastic tokens.
I want to give in and eat now. But really I want hold out until the day is over and eat then. Can't make progress if you keep postponing things to tomorrow :/
>>25622798Some detergents are formulated for specific temperatures, but unless you're using an enzymatic one designed to get blood or other protein stains out (which are expensive and have to be sought out specifically, you won't have an enzymatic detergent you're using by accident) you can use any detergent at any temp. The hotter you wash/dry the more colors will fade and the more things shrink. In general I wash all of my clothes cold and dry on medium heat. Bedding and towels I do separately with a hot wash and hot dry, as the hot water does obviously clean better and the hot dry does obviously get them dry faster.
>>25622829I see. I guess I'll start trying out cold, thanks. I think the reason my mother recommended warm was because, since I don't sweat much, I have a habit of wearing shirts multiple times before washing them. And yeah, normally I'd do towels separately, but this one was particularly smelly and I don't have enough dirty towels for its own load afterwards, so figured I'd just toss it in with my shirts, socks, and boxers. Anyway, thanks.
>>25622798You shall watch that old English lady that gives laundry advice on tiktok/yt.
>>25622835Moms often wash hot because they have kids and not a bunch of spare time for laundry. If you throw some shit streaked underoos in with the teenage daughters period panties and some mud caked jeans you just want it to all come out clean and not have to examine and care for each thing individually, so you just crank it to hot and hope to not have to redo it. After years of doing this they worry that maybe cold won't really get the clothes clean. Cold works fine for everyday clothes laundry, I promise you.

Your life is your life, even your wholehearted mistakes are better than your wringing your hands wondering when and how to jump. If you die, you will come back. Yet please don’t die, people love you. Don’t leave your babies to be raised by other men and electric screens. The last great superstition for you to overcome is that there is no truth: you know this is a lie, and you’re only hurting yourself. You think keeping your head in a stopped up sink will get you ice cream? I know you’ll be out gasping for air in 30 seconds, and then cry and run to your room and kick your teddy bear and pout. You better behave yourself. We raised you better than this. You think this is a contradiction? You’ve obviously never woken up to the fact that you must be your own dad.
