How do the writers here usually price their advance chapters? I've seen a few on RR charge upwards of like $10-15 for sets of advance chapters.

I tried reading Clara Casewell finally and it had the biggest red flag for knowing when a story is going to be shit: the character interactions for a dramatic event weren't realistic in the first few chaptersGirl tries to kill herself and the head maid is like "ok cool get cleaned up". the villainess, her best friend, addresses it a bit more, but also in a super weird way as if the author knows it needs to be addressed but also wants to brush it asidehad high hopes based on the rating but nah, very bad first impression, will not continue. How can I trust how the author will handle any future dramatic event now?

>>25602583Is the genre situation really so bad you have to "recommend" some bottom of the barrel dregs from novelpia?
>>25602074Literally explained in text lolIn the short term the original maid gave the villainess the poison they're on trial for. So the head maid who is loyal to the villainess's family is pissed off about that and sees original maid trying to kill herself as a cowardly way for her to run from responsibility for the shit she pulled. It's also shown later that the maid who tried to kill herself was a cooky religious lunatic that almost nobody in the house liked.
>>25602622>bottom of the barrel dregs from novelpia? That wasn't the bottom of the barrel, lmao. That was a curated list.If you want the bottom of the barrel I can give it to you. Check out Executive Mesgaki in a Gender-Reversed World with Magical Girls.

>>25602650Executive Mesgaki in a Gender-Reversed World with Magical Girls is bottom of the barrel because a chapter is missing from the translation several hundred chapters in and there's a special place in hell for series that do that shit.

magical girls have transformation sequences
Clara Casewell transforms from a lawyer into a maid.
>>25603045Her soul is inhabiting a different body, that's transmigration
>>25602632I could forgive the head maids reaction. The villainess was the real issue.
>>25603026Magical girls pre-date transformation sequences by decades. Sailor Moon did not invent magical girls.
>>25603008Ok. But that doesn't mean any and every female character with magic powers counts as a "magical girl" story. This is some "native isekai"-level stupidity. The genre is defined by very specific tropes and conventions that the audience expects to see.
>>25603077i will excuse legacy magical girls but modern ones should have them. otherwise they are just female mages.
>>25602570The villainess is her best friend and she did care, but in a weird brushed aside way. It read super unrealistic and amateurish. Did u even read my post
>>25603079>This is some "native isekai"-level stupidityRequiring transformations in magical girl stories is closer to being "native isekai" given it's a post-facto change to an already established genre.
>Magical girl (Japanese: 魔法少女, Hepburn: mahō shōjo) is a subgenre of Japanese fantasy media (including anime, manga, light novels, and live-action media) centered on young girls, who possess magical abilities, which they typically use through an ideal alter ego into which they can transform.[1][2]>The genre emerged in 1962 with the manga Himitsu no Akko-chan, followed by Sally the Witch in 1966.[3] A wave of similar anime produced in the 1970s led to majokko (魔女っ子; lit.'little witch') being used as a common term for the genre. In the 1980s, the term was largely replaced by "magical girl", reflecting the new popularity of shows produced by other studios, including Magical Princess Minky Momo and Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel.>In the 1990s, Sailor Moon redefined the genre by combining "transforming hero" elements from live-action tokusatsu hero shows. The growth of late-night anime in the early 2000s led to a demographic shift for the genre, where series with more mature themes such as Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (2004) were created and marketed towards an older male audience. There you go. Look how easy that was
>>25603123Good job proving exactly my point in that transformations are post-facto to the genre with that third paragraph. So requiring transformations is native isekai bullshit.
>>25603128I'm not who you were responding to and I don't even know what "native isekai bullshit" meansI just find it absurd when people bicker about definitions that you can settle in seconds by googling so I did it for both of you
Clara Casewell transforms from a miad into a solicitor.
I notice that I can't take certain works seriously, particularly those where the "Hand of the Author" is moving the pieces around too obviously, without bothering to "cover them with the curtains first" so to speak.I notice that with Chinese works, this is usually in the way the author openly allows all the patterns to show, making no effort to hide that this is the fifth "young master shows up, causes trouble for MC, and gets face slapped" loop of filler.Whereas in Japanese works, it's more to do with the rules of the world itself. Japanese writers really like openly using arbitrary and completely unbelievable rules with no justifications, expecting the reader to simply accept them. E.g. the "kill a saint kill a demon" rule of FMD Muramasa, or the entire power system in JJK. The entire genre of Death Game stories is an embodiment of this.In Western works, the most common form of this is the inability to allow the narrative to take itself seriously. Whedonisms, reddit writing so to speak, and also an insistence on very specific tropes like "found family" and "sparing the villain." It's part the Chinese tendency to allow the mechanisms to show, and part a unique western mental irony-poisoning (And to an extent ideological poisoning, as western authors especially strongly shy away from portraying various things they find ideologically dangerous or distasteful even if the setting should have them). Only a Western author will have a medieval knight talk in pukey therapy-speak or have a villain simultaneously enact genocide and then have a soapbox moment where he kills a subordinate for using le heckin slur or whatever. end of blogpoast

Maybe the party about to clear the 100th floor in struggling in their endeavor?
>>25605209>so the audience understandsWhat many fresh writers fail to grasp is that there's a world of difference between life being boring for the character and the story being boring for the reader. >>25604788I just write/read. There were a few days where I woke up and from morning to miday I read in my yard, and spent the few days after till now just writing. >>25604788I just read when I can't write. I read at work, mainly. My home free time goes like:Writing gooner smut until i buss, writing (real), reading in the rare occasion i have writers block.
>>25605289>What many fresh writers fail to grasp is that there's a world of difference between life being boring for the character and the story being boring for the reader.Counterpoint: It's generally better to try and immerse the reader in the thoughts and emotions of the PoV character for escapist fiction, which this undoubtably is. Not every literary technique is suitable for every genre. Also deliberately trying to separate the PoV character's experience and the reader's can easily come across as pretentious. Also also, it's not like nothing happens in the chapter. Did you even get past the horse manure? That said, the MC training could have been something more complex than just doing reps.
>>25605289>>so the audience understands>What many fresh writers fail to grasp is that there's a world of difference between life being boring for the character and the story being boring for the reader. It's possible to describe an uninteresting situation in an interesting way. That's where skill comes into the picture. And I will begin by stating that I completely agree with you. That's my take on things as well. I know I've read slow starting stories before and if I would have quit, boy would I have missed out. But here's how it was explained to me...if you buy a book, maybe a used cheap book, if you even find it for free. You are invested now in that book. You paid for it, or you picked it out, or something made you want it. Even so, that's the book you have right now so you'll give it a chance. But the problem is WEB NOVELS and the people that READ WNs have thousands to pick from. The reader can browse the first page of ten different similar looking stories and pick one. You can *have* a slow start with a slow build, but only if you take certain steps.>PS - I like to read slow starts and slow build-ups, but the advice against it makes sense.
>>25605368If that Anon couldn’t get past the horse manure, it only proved his point.Nothing in this world is free. The price of a web novel is time: time readers could spend on a hundred other things. They don’t have to read the first chapter, the first scene, or even the first line. They don’t have to do anything. It’s the author’s job to hook them from the opening sentence and give them a reason to keep reading.
>>25605506>If that Anon couldn’t get past the horse manure, it only proved his point.Okay, but it's a shit point if he's arguing you can't have more than 2 seconds of downtime or else the 0 brain cell ADHD scroll addicts will click off forever. You can't write for everyone and writing for some people produces objective shit.

Have you anons been genning your slop covers yet? I've been having a blast with NovelAI V5 but not actually writing.$20 wasted and I'm proud of it!
>>25606885*25$ fuck. I can't even remember how much it was...
I remember how early /wng/ was known for being a ragtag bunch of /wg/ refugees who wanted a place to pitch their slop and brainstorm publishing hacks without being laughed at by tradpubfags. Those daily writing challenges sure feel like they happened a decade ago.Is there anyone from that time left? What progress did you have in webnovel scene thus far? I faced a writer's block after an underperfotming launch, but I also learned a lot from my mistakes. It would be high impossible to grasp my story if I wasn't forced to see the issues in it, so now I'm returning with a fresh and solid plot this time.
>>25606885It looks like shit...
>>25606885The entire point of generating a cover is that you can do so for free. What the fuck are you paying for?
>>25606939I'm here. Finished volume two of my more traditional fantasy story, procrastinating on outlining the third simply because I was starting to get sick of writing it. Nearly done with the intro arc of my dungeon core which is about 25% of it. I keep moving between it and other projects, but on the upside, I'll have at least two things I can use to jumpstart contests at places like J-Novel Club if I feel like it.>I faced a writer's block after an underperfotming launch, but I also learned a lot from my mistakesI feel you. I'll likely relaunch that fantasy story of mine once I have the final book done to see if it might catch better numbers with daily updates. I hate how they do Rising Stars, but eh, it is what it is.
>>25606939I've been on /wg/ and here since ancient history. My first winnie kinda flopped, but I changed my approach and started a new one with a more appealing concept. It's been working out a lot better. I'm about halfway through the story now and just hope readers won't abandon it before the end.But all this time, I really wish I were writing the older story instead, because that was my passion project and I really enjoyed it. Everyone who read it rated it highly too, but the concept was just too niche to grab the masses.

It seems only yurifags from leddit read my winnie now and the next major arc focuses almost completely on two men. I'm so completely fucked, aren't I? I don't even dare to guess the financial losses I'm tanking for this decision.
>>25606885I've been making them from scratch by hand as of late. It's fun you should try it. I never drew much before, tried loomis 14 years ago and gave up. I bought a XPPen Deco for cheap so i can't wait>>25606939think I was one of 2 or 3 that did some of them. one of them was a combat scene that I sketched and posted; then I posted it later as an expanded RR chapter, but it wasn't well received at all. I've had 2 anons reply saying it was bad and reminded me of their writing and how it dragged us both down. Anyway that Combat quest helped me jump-start my serial again since I was in a slump. I haven't posted it much since. I finished Part 1 at 83k words and I'm steadily writing and serializing Part 2 which is about 40k words at the moment
>>25607661if i was reading a story focused on fmcs and then it pivoted to two men id be pissed toovery retarded decision

Would this clear up most of the "boring" arguments for OP?
Why are you wasting your time chasing yurislop femc garbage? Following trends will never get you anywhere.Write a cultivation novel. Your foundation will be deep and stable, as unshakable as Mt. Tai. If it was the girl eating the bear, they would not feel anything. If an old lady was eaten, the pity in their hearts would be greatly reduced. If it was a villain, a murderer getting eaten, they would clap their hands in joy, praising.>In actuality, all beings are equal, and heaven and earth is just.>Nature is fair, disregarding love or hate; it is emotionless, and never gives differential treatment.>Rule of the strong, victor takes all!>The disappearance of a lifeform, towards the entire natural realm and the infinite cosmos, to the long river of history - what does it amount to?>Death means death, who can choose not to die? What talk about a girl, bear, ant, fox, tree, old lady, murderer, they are all lowly! Humble! If it takes a step towards the darkness, it becomes a demon.>Demonic nature!

Only righteous path hypocrites are racist and sexist. Demonic path cultivators are magnanimous, they are not small characters concerned with such worldly concepts. so theres like 2-3 posters here i guess, better check in for any more advice later.anyone here ever tried listening to that soundcloud couch to 2k? it gave nice exercises in 1/20th of the inane yapping. i never finished itanyway it was sorta disillusioning that writing can be made so systematic in a way.. this is the post.
>>25614449There’s a difference between having poor control of the English language and not being able to string together a coherent sentence.AI would actually make this more readable. That’s not a good thing.>ChatGPT, revise this, no ESL:>Woodland Ridge, in a ramshackle house at night.>Bright stars streaked across the dark river of the sky, their movements foretelling the order of all things, the workings of fate. Their light spilled into a bare, unwelcoming room, devoid of ornamentation. Everything was functional, much like its owner.>An Lin was an unremarkable man. His posture bore no trace of youthful vigor, and his character possessed nothing particularly distinctive.>He remembered a past life. By now, he had long since come to terms with his new one. Beyond the window stretched fields of budding spirit grain. Every day, he tended to them, hour after backbreaking hour. It was exhausting, agonizing work, but—>“Compared to that world, there’s something far more satisfying about working with your own hands.”>Lately, An Lin had found himself growing nostalgic, even sentimental. He wasn’t usually one to dwell on the distant past, but recent events had given him plenty of reason to reminisce.>It all had to do with his profession: spirit farming.>Spirit rice, also known as Spirit Pearls when harvested from barley grains, was a powerful tonic for a young cultivator’s body. It gently nourished and expanded the pathways through which Qi flowed, helping cultivators uncover hidden meridians. Its effects were comparable to those of a low-grade pill, without the toxins that came with one.>The rice and its pearls possessed these benefits. The plants themselves, however, were another matter.>Like most spirit crops, spirit grains absorbed the Heaven and Earth Qi in its raw, turbid form, purified it, and stored the refined essence in their kernels. The impurities and residual toxins had to go somewhere.>And that was precisely why no cultivator in their right mind would willingly set foot on a spirit plantation.>Of course, there was more to the story than the uninformed might assume. Spirit farmers weren’t simply mortal serfs or condemned laborers. Reaching this point was, in its own way, an honor and a privilege.>Still, none of that changed the reality for an ordinary mortal who lacked the extraordinary talent needed to leap from river fish to dragon. For someone like that, time was always running out.

>>25604894Cut up your sentences and vary the length more. You've got something alright on a content level but you are overloading all of your sentences with unnecessary hedging and details. It's directing the reader's attention too much and costing their investment. Try to be more precise with how you land story beats.

>>25614620>Fang Yuan is a righteous character.First of all, this is a lie. Second of all, righteousness isn't, strictly, a moral position. Third of all, righteous means something particular within the context of martial fiction, something akin to orthodox, and he absolutely isn't that.

You think reddit goyboys are the champions of an anti-moralist, anarchist, taoist webnovel? They can’t even understand why someone would want to read something that doesn’t conform perfectly to modern neoliberal sensibilities. Hence why they go crazy for Brando Sando, Marvel, Star Wars, etc.

still looking for a writing software rec for writing webnovel tier shit. xianxia is a good template, so i want to make sure i get the character and place names i made up right. do you CHUDS just write in notepad++ or what
>>25615259>do you CHUDS just write in notepad++ or whatYes, although it's actually Sublime Text 3. I've also made a few simple scripts to turn the .txt files I write in into shit I can just copy and paste into RR or Patreon, do wordcounts etc.I know of people who put worldbuilding documents in Obsidian and run it through Claude to make sure it's all internally consistent or whatever. They seem happy with it, but quite frankly none of them have ever actually released anything ever since doing things that way. With things like these, if someone goes looking for the "perfect" software that's just an excuse not to buckle down and get to the hard part, which is actually writing.Only reason not to use as basic of a text editor as you're comfortable with is if you're gonna include blue boxes or other LitRPG shit, since that requires a little more formatting, but if you're not gonna do that then you don't even need the ++, notepad will do.
>>25615259I use Obsidian for notes/world building. There are also dedicated programs for this like offline wikis, yWriter and Fatasia Archive but I feel like these are too much work/overkill unless you're writing something really involved or a setting for multiple stories.
Deco 01 v3 came in and it was good time as any to finally give this one a proper revision. finally I can go back go to wroitin the next wip chapter.
