    >What is /wng/ — Web Novel General?
A general for readers and authors involved or interested in the growing phenomenon of 'web novels', serialized English fiction posted to websites such as: Royal Road, Webnovel, Scribblehub, Wattpad, Archive of Our Own, Spacebattles, HFY, various personal author websites, and more

    >Why read web novels?
Not for prose or tight editing or deep themes, frankly. As a whole, web novels are infamous for content sprawl and pacing issues. If you enjoy having millions of words to sink your teeth into to get to know the world and characters, though, you may be interested. Keeping up with other readers on a weekly basis to discuss the story's events unfolding is another perk, in the same way discussing an ongoing TV show might be.

    >Why write web novels?
Ease of access & potential for Patreon earnings. Many successful authors gain an audience on their website of choice and funnel their readers into a Patreon. See graphtreon.com/top-patreon-creators/writing for an idea of what some are earning.
Also, once an author has earned a fanbase, transitioning into an Amazon self-publishing career is several orders of magnitude easier than starting 'dry'.

People like to joke about how webnovels are low effort literature, about how they are "Not for prose or tight editing or deep themes, frankly. As a whole, web novels are infamous for content sprawl and pacing issues," but I can't for the life of me play the game like that, I need to know I did everything I can to make every individual chapter perfect in every way possible. It's exhausting, but worth it. Everyone should do their greatest effort when writing something with the intention of publishing and make patreon bucks. Why bother doing something if youre gonna do it wrong or sloppily?
    >>
    >>25616340
I took this same approach with mine (still am with my next project because I am mentally ill) and the issue is now you're putting all the effort of a novel into something as rapid-pace and pulp-economized as a web novel. This will fuck your brain up in the long run. You better be wolfing down 20mg of creatine daily just to undo the brain burn.

I want to be able to fix my sight on a certain point and read from top to bottom in one continuous scroll.
    That can't be healthy.
    But damn…

I'm actually optimistic about the process of creating a webnovel as a perfectionist, because as it becomes apparent that the readers aren't all perfectionists themselves and don't care whether the story is burger- or filette mignon-tier, the author can relax more and more.

I strive to be the best I can to make every chapter meaningful. I have a patreon but not using it in the usual grifting sense at all however, rather I just set it up as general support and state there's no advanced chapters, same with ko-fi. I don't write for money because I already have a daytime job and I don't want to strain myself with what I write that has no job security attached to it.I don't find writing exhausting at all, I can plan out, sketch out things at my own pace with at least a semblance schedule. >>25616411 has nailed it the most; couple that with the profound attitude that readerbases everywhere don't care if something is human made or not, so long as it's good. With that in mind, I'm just perfectly relaxed about the process as a whole and completely do things at my own -ace, double that with not being a chaibed ball slave to the market, I have no readers. I'm not bothered, thete's at least two people who still read it out of 70 botters/guestx that even that has decreased to 10. I write for the love of the craft and to write a compelling start to finish stand-alone story, but unironically.

Same feeling here. I have a hard time writing anything but things important to the story (I include content that fleshes out characters in that category). I write something I'd want to read, and that's something that doesn't waste time with bullshit. If something doesn't have purpose, it doesn't get to stay just so I can bloat the word count.

Hi. I am new to the webnovel scene, writing xianxia about hating yourself a whole lot and struggling to overcome people who hate you even more than you hate yourself. I am planning on smashing my face into royal road once I have enough of a backlog prepared. (Currently I have about 30 chapters but a lot of them are badly in need of an edit. I want to make sure that I start things off strong, even if I won't have time for constant editing if I start doing this for a living.) I'm reading the guides and learning a lot about how to market and hopefully make it to rising star- but I really really want someone to take a look at what I've got and tell me if I'm even remotely on the right track. I write a lot, but I've never (seriously) written cultivation/xianxia before this.

If anyone would take a look, I'd be really pleased. Even if you just open it, read five sentences, and say "This is bad, I stopped reading because of [reason]" that would help a ton! Thank you.

    Thank you!

ahhhh!! you may be joking, but this is actually invaluable feedback for me! Thank you!

I was going for 'I am so cool, but my bloodline is tainted so everyone hates me, and that makes me sad'. But maybe I should tone down the self loathing. That's a good thing to consider!
    >>
    >>25617397
i only have experience reading translated webnovels from novelupdates and i didnt like what i saw in royal road so take my opinion with a grain of salt:
its too monologue-y, too anecdotal, too.. personal.
compared to what ive read: which is packaged and stale.. maybe RR audience is different but it takes effort for me to have read that first page, i had to think.

the wns i read were stylistically indistinguishable from each other so i can blaze through 10 chapters to know if i like it or not. but while i could be intrigued by your interesting-factoid introduction, a part of my brain just tells me: why am i investing so much energy into something i normally just consoom (why bother? i know stories can be absolute dogshit or turn absolute dogshit or a plotline can come that i fucking hate, why cant i find the signal for it)
    >>
    >>25617263
    Awesome images. Link to story?
    >>
    >>25617432
This is also really good feedback, thank you. I'm really *happy* with what I wrote in the first chapter, but I feel like it might be a stiff opening, yeah. One thing that I've considered is flipping the first and second chapters. (In fact, I already moved a later chapter and turned it into the current chapter two: because I wanted some action and murder to start us off.) Then we'd stay chronilogical, start with action, but also we'd get the opening of confessing to a bunch of murders. Which would hopefully make you want to know 'how did she get caught? who is she confessing to?'

Either that, or maybe I will just trim down the opening monologue... Or move it much later into the story? I'm not sure.
    >>
    >>25617397
    also, first person perspective: bad
its paradoxically less immersive than third person, the 'I's stand out.

so my take is that i'd like it more formulaic (it would also be easier to write in the long run), less worldbuilding.
    >>
    >>25617438
take it with a grain of salt. you already wrote it. make it what you'd like to read it as - as a reader

This gets explained every week I swear.
Asian men can't conceive of reading a females actual pov. So to write a story for them with a female lead the authors have to contrive a gender bend at the start and like 4 sentences where they miss their dick then the rest of the story never mentions this again and it's just about the femc.
In your example the story is actually just about a little girl. The salaryman part is an illusion.

I ran 2 ads one's current and mostly just for fun bc I drew it on a whim, and ads aren't as impactful as you think. If you're off-market(ie not isekai, cultivation, xiana, litrpg), it's simply just impossible to begin; outliers are outliers and just because one ai genned sci-fi off market story made it to RS#1 doesn't translate to other off-market stories they can succeed too. But don't write for the hope of discoverability, just write for the love of the craft, you are your own audience. It is incredibly soul crushing to see a similar genre off-market story explode into 80,000 views and over 200 followers and 70 favs, and I only have 5k views. It is what it is, all because they did shout out swaps. It is what it is, and #1 thing is if you're not writing what the market craves you're just sol. Savior and appreciate the readers you do have.

I'm a perfectionist too but webnovels are an exception. On the occasion my stuff becomes successful, I can simply perfect it in a rewrite later on. If it goes nowhere then at least I didn't waste my time and effort on a book doomed from the start. No one takes webnovels seriously outside of East Asia.

    >On the occasion my stuff becomes successful, I can simply perfect it in a rewrite later on.
It greatly improves your odds of becoming successful if your slop isn't an unintelligible mess the first time. The readers won't eat up just anything, when the supply has exploded and AI has raised the bar on things like grammar, pacing, and sentence structure. The general tolerance towards mistakes and inconsistencies in writing is lower than it's ever been

I only publish 3 chapters per week, so I'm merely seconds on Latest Updates every couple days. I only have 2 paying patrons, (not even close to covering those $55 anyte soon), and my general discoverability on RR has been very low, but there's no way I'm paying for ads. It's not that WNs don't have those same cliches like bubbling MCs that again victory through something stupid, but rather that that's not all they have. Tradpub trims down the fat so much that that's all you've got left. End result is that you've got a whole bunch of different stories but half of it is the same in all of them.
That's why western haremfantasy doesn't work either. It's so focused on the harem aspect that all the other parts of the story are formulaic and boring. At least with a WN you have the ambiguity that the story lasts a long time ago everything isn't immediately predictable.

    >>

No, there are several sentences and patterns that LLMs frequently use. The two bolded lines and what to expect formatting are the same as in all the other AI stories too. "Sounds like x" is no way to identify it, you can set the clanker to imitate any tone and target teen demographics. You just memorize the tells
    >>
    >>25619428
    >Being interesting means to be good
I used to think this too and it's hilariously naive and untrue. Readers can be interested in only one specific thing in an otherwise dogshit story and read 500 chapters and subscribe to patreon just to see will the MC dick down their favorite waifu, or something and skip everything else. And the moment the answer is clear, they drop the whole shit without looking back. If the author includes a lot of small hooks, it doesn't matter if the story as a whole is infuriatingly retarded bullshit. There's still a bit of something for everyone

I got a lot of ideas in my idea storage, but I think my two silliest ideas are:
    >GTA in a world in which humans have suddenly gone extinct and now robots serve animals as their masters. Cats fight other non-human species and each other using gloves that simulate human hands and real guns and vehicles.
    >Myke Tyson's Mysteries but it's medieval fantasy isekai. A retired heavy weight boxing champion, and controversial ex-con gets truck-kun and now has to make a living and a name for himself in a world in which non-magic users are at the bottom of the food-chain in every adventurers guild. He has to prove that he's a better fighter and monster hunter than anyone else despite his handicap (he cannot cast magic at all).

Because LN prose doesn't do well on RR.
That said, translating LN prose into the Western style is surprisingly easy once you realize that in contemporary Western books, most of what falls outside dialogue is just inner monologue in disguise.
"I can't believe Mom made me suck her titties in public," Baby Archmage thought. His ears were still burning. "I can never let Femc know about this."
Baby Archmage couldn't believe Mom had made him suck her titties in public. His ears were still burning. He could never let Femc know about this.
"God, it feels good to be tall," Jack Reacher thought, feeling the small-town women's eyes on him. "Yes, look at me. Look at how tall and cool I am."
God, it felt good to be tall. Jack Reacher could feel the small-town women's eyes on him. Yes, look at him. Look at how tall and cool he was.
"It's snowing," thought the villainous young master as a snowflake landed on the tip of his finger. "Soon, it will be spring, and I'll have to start cucking the MC for real."
It was snowing. A snowflake landed on the tip of the villainous young master's finger. Soon, it would be spring, and he would have to start cucking the MC for real.
So if you can master the dialogue + action beats combo, you can pull off the narration too.
    >>
name one winnie character who went through more than my goat Ren Zu
    >>
i like 'The Hundred Reigns' on RR, and i think one of the things working in their favour is the nature of the story.

The MC has a 100 lives and then dies and loops back...each 'life' is about ~15-ish chapters, about the length of a small novella.

Because of the length limitations, it forced the author to create well-contained arcs, and keeps the writing sharp.

Unlike other series where the story gets out of the author's hands and arcs start to drag on and plotlines never get resolved.. this format forces the author to keep everything in check.

Obviously this only happens because of the time loop nature of the story, but still, i think other authors also need to take a similarly controlled approach on their online stories.

Have a set number of chapters per arc and have a set number of arcs in the story; once it's reached, write the ending and then follow on to a sequel if you still want to continue.

In my experience from wow bg / arenas.
Tank do either do special combat tasks, like playing the objective, you can take a hit so you can allow yourself to to non defensive action like carry the flag/chest/bomb. Guard a hot spot etc. Buy time.

Another different approach is the bodyguard style. They keep specific attacks or enemies away from DPS heals. ( Peeling) . You stun snare interrupt intervene. Shape the battlefield you hold the bridge so the archers can send arrows.

Thrid you tunnel/ train. You do the reverse you focus the enemy squishy you go full Tunnelvision on the enemy heal and hard engage. This forces the enemy to react to your tanks action. You soak spells like stuns and snares that you can manage. So the spells are wasted on you instead of the DPS. Because despite you being a bad target... The heal getting a face full of mace is not good.

Or you demand focus like you said by snowball skills. If you don't deal with them now they Carry later.

To make the decisions of the characters fit you need to create a lose lose scenario. Like a tank with a aoe slow. Your either slap the tank which is not effective. Or you fight with the slow which is also terrible. You make them cast taunt. You have the tank crest a situation that needs to be addressed with more prio than the other stuff

If the author had made the story harem then there'd be a chance that we might see other interesting romance than Eole, but it's already pretty clear she's chosen by the author.

that's not a western thing though, even in war and peace there's this scene that I've read so far where an entire polish cavalry unit quite straight throws them into the raging torrent at the french crossing into russia, and some of them straight up drown when napoleon is geniunely not even looking at their direction (in fact he considers them all very inconvinvent for distracting him but from their pov they're happy about showing their insanity), later this russian accounts a battle at a dam where a father and his 2 sons rush forward and the narrator is thinking to himself that's fucking stupid you're stupid why would you expose your flesh and blood to danger like that, this battle literally has no purpose not even a tactical one. hell even in three kingdoms everyones eager for glory but I've only read 2 chapters to read war and peace instead. anyway, I try to avoid padding so the story in my opinon is more lean and brisk, but I get what you mean, just pick up any military thriller from the 80s–90s and it's all padded with military purple prose stuff. I'm not a retired military unc however; I did JROTC in HS for 1 1/2 years before I had to switch out/ I just like old school 80s-90s military anime like gundam and lotgh. I don't think about it much and frankly don't care. I've tried to glimpse on RR some military space operas or just military ones before and I usually just can't get into them because they try to play into that kind of format where it's very obviously written by a military vet (good LORD THERE ARE SO MANY ON RR) and it's just so forceful and dry you know? Or the usual need to infodump so needlessly. I wouldn't say I'm any different from the chaff though, but that kind of writing just isn't exciting to me. I like the more character-driven philosophical aspects of it I guess, the heroicness and dudes just being total badasses.

dunno where you ended, but the MC is definitely becoming more evil, or atleast more jaded about the reigns and willing to do a lot of shit and pass it off because 'it will all reset', he's fighting the feeling, but we are starting to see cracks.

It's a 100 reigns and we are about a quarter of a way through, so it will take a LONG time, gotta account for that.

as for romance, lol, MC has romanced loads of women, heck in one reign he married Euphemia, not because he liked her but because he thought it might help as a political marriage...it failed but he learnt somethings.

He has a soft corner for Eole but in later reigns something happens and he feels he betrayed her, so he has stopped romancing her. I feel Anna is the end goal, could be wrong though, as I said, only quarter a way through.

It won't be a harem, in one reign, he marries Anna and she offers him a chance at a harem and he out right rejects it.

I'm going to be frank, most artists charging more than $400 for a cover (including commercial rights) are scamming you. Pic-rel (Nboarart) charges way below industry rates.

You gotta remember there's a lot of very skilled artists living in very low income countries where cheap commissions at good quality do make them a strong living. If you can pay a month's rent by drawing well, you're gonna learn to draw really fucking well.
    >>
    >>25619469
Yeah I guess. I'm not done yet but I'm finishing up the final arc now. I've been solely motivated by liking the characters and wanting to tell their story for years now.

It's just that most of them who are actually good will quickly pick up tons of wealthier commissioners, enough so theyre booked out, and thus start charging western rates because why wouldn't they
    >>
    >>25623098
The guy who drew my cover did it for like $80, there are always people who are starting out who are just as talented or more so than the established artists but just don't have the platform yet.
    >>
    >>25623116
They really don't. Nboar has like 1000 followers and has been doing professional covers for years. Many also intentionally keep their prices low but utilize their greater esteem to specifically get their say in what they'll accept. I recently got an insanely high quality comm from a huge artist with industry connections (Like he does sponsored promo work for NetEase and international sports teams) for less than $300 because at his level of popularity he gets the final say in what he draws, people come to him.

Inversely, the super unpopular are cheap because that's marketable and know they don't have the grounds to charge more. You gotta look at both ends of the price bellcurve and you'll find gems.
    >>
    >>25623131
    >for less than $300 because at his level of popularity he gets the final say in what he draws, people come to him.

Anon, you missed the part where popular artists are the ones with people accosting them and being willing to pay them. They charge high for industry and low for individuals because in both cases the artist is the one in demand, not the other way around. You can afford to be cheap when you're in such demand that you get to choose what you're drawing.

Pretty much every single illustrator I've ever worked with from Vgen, deviantart, pixiv, and Mondo.

They all disappear for months, under preform based on their portfolios, despite getting notes on changes, and on more than one occasion deliver something completely unusable. And that's just among the few who actually reply to their open commission calls.

I've also had instances where someone only accepts commissions for 1 minute every few months. Their Vgen account will have a countdown. You wait weeks for it to reach zero. They open for commission, I copy paste what I want, and before I can click submit they're closed. All commissions filled. Won't open for another few months.

And this doesn't even mention the nightmare of digging through page after page of amateurish illustrations that look like they were made by a 13 year old. They're like "I'll do a commission for $10!" Yeah, I bet you would, because you're fucking awful at drawing and no one wants to work with you.

I've never had it myself, not to "Works on my machine" it but it's specifically because I try to go for verified ones. You can report them and get chargebacks and refunds and that'll usually scare the shit out of them into either fixing their act or you get your money back.

Artists are fickle creatures, hell, not just artists, even random anons are fickle creatures. I have offered to do free work for other anons on THEIR projects just for them to ghost me, even though I am trying to help THEM. Everyone is fickle, and the only person you can fully trust is yourself.

That said, when the money is around $1000, people actually take things a bit more serious. A bit more is at stake, and reputations start to become important for that kind of money. Like honestly maybe your issue is just dealing with cheap things. "I'll do a commission for $10!" like yeah, you're kinda getting what you pay for, dude.

Being in a real career environment, you will quickly learn reputation is everything, and reputation gets you money, and if you don't have reputation yourself, you at least need to offer money to attract reputable people.

I've had familiar experiences here on 4chan. Someone posts their illustrations and I think oh that's cool, can I hire you? And they're like NO WAY AM I GIVING OUT MY INFO ON 4CHAN!

What really pisses me off is when an artist complains they don't have enough commissions on social media while they are simultaneously ignoring my request.

    >That said, when the money is around $1000, people actually take things a bit more serious.
Yeah. I wish. One of my worst experiences was working with a poster designer who did work for bands like The Black Keys and Muse. Sent me a concept sketch. I approved the design. He came back months later with the finished piece and there was zero difference from the concept sketch. Like I had to switch back and forth between the sketch and the finished piece and play a game of spot the difference. I was so upset. He had a really amazing portfolio too. I did not get what I paid for.
    >>
    >>25623506
Well I dunno about your specific situation but I'll play devil's avocado and say communication between client and merchant is also an important skill.
    >sent you a sketch
    >you approved
    >Months later sends the finished piece, similar to what you approved
Like first of all, the month gap should be pressured and monitored much more (why the fuck is he taking so long anyway? he started with the sketch so he should finish it), secondly its difficult to imagine what the problem truly was when you approved the design and he moved ahead with it. Even an AI-head would say "well bro you just suck at prompting, should have prompted better". And thirdly desu, if you're not happy with the product, and he won't work with you, what's even the point of paying? Shoulda thrown a bigger bitch fit and withheld your money, its HIS reputation at stake, so you have to fight back with your money.

Maybe the situation was more complicated than that though, idk, it is a struggle in the end

The average reader is what would happen if a chimpanzee were by the most bare minimum standards literate. They process words as ritualistic fetishes that evoke certain partisan ideas instead of set things with definitions and get very emotionally invested in how those fetishes are arranged.

They're not particular about the arrangement, mind you, but they do get emotional. And they're very bad at trying to explain or understand said arrangements.

Their only use is to relinquish their money into your pockets and the best way to do so is to keep up the arrangements that have them whoop and cheer.

You keep forgetting the part where the artist can say "No." You can keep your prices cheap when you're 1. In demand and 2. The arbiter of what you do. You can charge industry rates to industry people who are very serious and casual commissioners cheap because the casual commissioners are only getting approved if it's something the artist likes. I've worked with pro artists who work with peoplel ike NetEase that specifically do this and are very high profile, and this is explicitly their method. How is this so hard for you to understand?

Why do so many authors not want me to read their stories? I pick out a story through search based on tags (there aren't that many to begin with) and I read this at the start of the description:
    >Enchanted Expanse is a cabinet of oddities masquerading as a book. an anthology where stories refuse to stay in their lane. Inside, you might find a God fighting with his own conscience about a part of existence he neglects, a bureaucrat from the-
That first sentence alone says "don't read me".
    >By 1992, the world knows who Battle Cry really is. Not just a hard rock band.
So that's why it has the "comedy" tag. This part of the description has already put me off the story, but here's the rest of it:
    >The Brotherhood of Aelin. Five men with amulets that cannot be removed, rulers of a cloaked island that spent nine centuries refusing to appear on anyone's map.
    >Aldus the Conqueror spent those same nine centuries losing. Armies failed. Sieges failed. So he stopped attacking five bestowed men and threatened the people holding tickets instead.
    >One credible threat against one arena grounded the most powerful beings alive.
    >The sequester lasted two years.
    >The island noticed what it was doing to them long before the men did.
Tickets? Arena? Sequester? What the hell am I even reading?

Okay, let's go with the next one: Age of Demina. Early chapter titles:
    >In the Lourve (Lab!)
Did the author mis-spell Louvre? If that's a clever way of saying "temu version of a museum" then that's great, but a cursory reading of the chapter has nothing to do with the title. It's also very generic and the dialogue reads like AI.
    >Neural Fusion-HAAA!
    >Giraffe Legs?!
    >Is Math Supposed to Scream?!
I have to be invested in your story for these jokes to land. This is far too early.

I just want to read something enjoyable, but these authors don't just fail to grab me, they actively push me away from reading their stories.

If you don't have any advance chapters to offer on patreon they wont pay for it.

It's some /wg/ anons. They don't actually read or write web novels and have no interest in them but hang out here just to shitpost.
It's easy to spot them once you realize all their advise is based on how they want things to be rather than how it is.
That's why they're saying consistency and volume don't matter, because it doesn't for them. They're not even cut out for tradpub or selfpubbing on Amazon because they're spending 3 years to write a novella and won't even finish it.
If you've been here long enough you've also seen them seethe about prose in web novels, they want prose to be the most important thing when in reality workman-like prose will get you by and is even preferred by the wn phone readers (the vast majority).

also VNs don't need tons of porn. if narrative is your selling point you should spec into narrative. otherwise converting your WN into a game makes no fucking sense at all, because mechanics and gameplay is 99.9% what matters. drop your WN ideas entirely and just make a good game (because your WN might just stifle the gameplay), or go VN. IMO.

It's orderly and just what anyone would expect from chapter 1 of The Demon Queen Is On Vacation. But it lacks heart to me, and because of that certain sterility you don't need to tell anyone you didn't enjoy writing it. She'd make a better protagonist with a stronger motivation, and the scene-setting isn't particularly rich. The tone setting is also a bit shaky (could've done with more comedy to fit the genre). Overall, would continue a few chapters but probably not pick up.

i'm a prose seether but in the sense that excerpts here (and lots of WNs) are so shit they're unreadable
there are tiers to depravity, one slophog is not equal to another. i can read worm/mol/apgte etc but i can't read the average rising stars story, the prose turns me away

Since you’re so confident in your ability to judge good prose from bad, tell me how to improve this. (Not a real story, just an example of how I’ve been trying to write.)

The phone rang for a good five minutes before Anon finally heaved himself upright. The floor tilted beneath him. He could swear he hadn’t touched a drop last night, so what do you call a hangover without the drinking? Right. Feeling like shit.
He steadied himself on the edge of the mattress and dragged a hand through his thinning hair. The ringing hadn’t let up once. This was going to be painful.
“You’re late,” a clipped, high-pitched voice said the second he picked up.
Becky. He could picture her perfectly plucked eyebrows knotting together beneath that tight ponytail.
    “I know.”
“You should’ve been here half an hour ago.”
    “I know.”
“Where the hell are you? Don’t tell me you’re still at home.”
    “Fine, I won’t.”
“Damn it, Anon. Get your ass over here right fucking now!”
His grip tightened on the phone.
Becky was his guild agent. She was young, pretty, and ambitious, with the skills to back it up, which was how she’d landed the job of representing one of the country’s top heroes in the first place. Lately, though, she’d gotten into the nasty habit of acting like he worked for her instead of the other way around, as if he couldn’t snap her tight little body in half like a Barbie doll.
“Never take that tone with me,” he said. “I spent sixteen hours yesterday clearing the Goblin Dungeon. Not the army. Not Sam’s party. Me.”
Silence. Then: “That’s exactly why we need you. We’re running out of time before the next incursion.” She paused. “Anon, I wish there were somebody else I could call. I really do. But you’re the only A-rank delver in the tri-state area, and a lot of good people are going to die unless you step up. I hope you understand that.”
Her last words practically dripped honey. The girl knew exactly how to push his buttons.
He groaned. “I know. I’ll be there.”
    >>
    >>25625940
I would combine all the sentences from "damn it Anon," to the barbie doll sentence. Same with Silence to The girl. He groaned can be changed to a colon.

Kinetic novels exist. They have so little gameplay they technically are not games.
    >>
    >>25625940
im not really taking this post seriously but there are connective issues. like a dude lying in a mattress and saying "the floor tilted beneath him". it's obviously better to use "the world tilted around him" or something. he's in a mattress
i wouldn't have said anything since it mightve been a one off weirdness, but then you do
    >He could picture her perfectly plucked eyebrows knotting together beneath that tight ponytail.
eyebrows don't logically follow as "beneath" a ponytail. a ponytail evokes BEHIND HER HEAD imagery and eyebrows are front of face. some hairstyles (bangs) would work with this but not what you gave
it's just a lack of understanding how other readers perceive your work.
i don't really do in depth prose reviews anymore because people just don't reply, it's a waste of time
    >>
    >>25625958
i don't consider VNs real games
    >>
    >>25625960
    >Anon finally heaved himself upright… He steadied himself on the edge of the mattress…
The mental image was he was sitting on the edge of the bed with his feet on the ground.
For the tight ponytail, I meant the area in the pic. I didn’t know how to describe it concisely.
So I guess I should stop trying to be so minimalistic with the descriptions.
    >>
    >>25626000
yeah like i said it's an issue of you having a mental image and not conveying it to readers.
with the ponytail concept, i even said "yeah makes sense for some hairstyles" but you circled the part of the hairstyle that is white space, and doesn't link to the ponytail at all. the ponytail is the fucking ponytail my guy
minimalism is GREAT when you convey the full idea. cutting crucial info that paints the core image is dumb, makes me think you read youtubeslop advice and tried to implement it without understanding the concept behind why people say "cut unnecessary words"

    you cut necessary words

Why combine different ideas into one paragraph?
Backy’s dialogue --> “Damn it, Anon. Get your ass over here right fucking now!”
Anon’s action beat --> His grip tightened on the phone.
Exposition/Anon’s thought --> Becky was his guild agent.
And I don’t think [He groaned: “I know. I’ll be there.”] makes sense, since he’s not groaning his answer. He groaned. Then spoke. Two separate actions.

and i think the tight (emphasis on tight) ponytail issue was a synonym issue, not connective. he wanted to describe 'when hair is pulled back tightly'. i am no expert in woman's hairstyles or if there's even a word for backwards bangs, but i think 'widow's peak' might have done a better job?

What are you guys arguing about? That hairstyle is called a tight ponytail. That’s it. There’s also the loose ponytail, sleek ponytail, high ponytail, low ponytail, middle part ponytail, etc. All of those refer to how girls style the hair around their scalp, not the tail in back. Because obviously, a tail swinging freely behind them can’t be tight unless somebody pulls on it.
    >>
    >>25626074
i've said it multiple times but you're entirely disconnected from how others read your writing
when you type "tight" ponytail almost none of your readers will hard lock on to that adjective to reframe their reading experience around that singular adjective
you're expecting them to read "tight ponytail" and visualize the pulled back scalp, so they can then read "beneath" that as being her eyebrows
