Leave the rail alone and get a better way of attaching to it. I really like Larue's qds but they have limited uses and I'm not sure how that would work on a pistol.

I'm a little embarrassed I can't put hands on it, last time my nephew came to visit I shoved all the loose guns in locking cabinets, and that one isn't visible in any of them.

I got the kit for under $40 shipped on gunbroker, they've gone up in price now that there's a printable lower. I made mine out a bar of aluminum with a dremel.

>>65615452
It was a prototype and why would you NOT want good grip texture on every single gun? You think you're a cowboy doing flippy doops yip yappin?

>>65616009
Its purpose is for your support hand, so you can lock it in between that and the trigger guard and apply more downward control. These days they make magwells have retardedly oversized elephant foots up front to have that function

Also for me it's the edges melted to oblivion. Look at the enormous gap introduced around the beavertail blend for example, it looks hideous, like a day 1 bubba blasted it on a pedistal grinder for 4 hours too long
>>
>>65614456

Beretta grip retard anon back again. Decided I wanted to try and seal the pores since this is my testbed/first time refinishing wood sorta project. Anyways I have been stuck at the 400 grit stage for a week now. A whole lot of the pores and slits [this was super shitty wood to begin with that Beretta turbo coats with a bukkake of varnish to hide] are filled in but there are a few spots, mostly on the back smooth flat part here, that just will not fill in. General process is use paintbrush to add more BLO, then wet sand w/ 400 grit at decreasing severity [barely any now] to work up a slurry of blo/sawdust, finger rub it in manually as much as I can WITH THE GRAIN, let dry/wipe off excess PERPENDICULAR TO THE GRAIN, rinse and repeat.

Do I just need to keep doing this? I feel like getting some good sawdust from the back and mixing up a thick slurry should fill these tiny but deep pores more easily than the slits but for some reason they just wont seal up. Any advice? After this plan is work 1-2 passes at 600 and 800 grit each, then 1500 grit, then like 7-8 coats of BLO + 3000 grit to even it out, and then a few more coats/finger polish. God help me when I have to get the excess out of the checkering though, probably should do that when the pores are sealed.
>>
>>65616465
Are these the old OEM wood grips? I won a set of those off of GB. They look nice but feel like shit to hold

It's not fuddlore people put loaded mags in their closet and measure the spring weight years later and it's notably lower.
It would be simple to manufacture magazine springs such that they operate below the fatigue limit, or trivial to at least make the expected cycles to failure be in the hundreds of thousands. Yet the second time I load a new Beretta mag it's noticeably easier compared to the first.
Why do you think that is?

half of the people who carry guns have just fabricated their own headcanon for how a self-defense situation looks while arguing that it's "realism," and it ends up sounding like the type of people who buy shitty electric cars as their only vehicle
>well sure it only has an 85 mile range but how often do I need to drive more than 85 miles?
>yeah, a software update can brick my car for 30 min when I need it, but how often am I in an emergency
always sounds similar to
>most self-defense shootings happen within 7 yards, ergo I will never need to hit anything beyond 7 yards
>most self-defense shootings involve less than 5 rounds, ergo I will never need more than 5 rounds
>all hits are equivalent, therefore minute of man is a fine standard for me
>what, are you john wick? I will certainly have time to draw and rack my firearm without inducing a malfunction because I will always have time to stage my shit
I can only assume that it's either people who are 5'6" and 135lb soaking wet wearing tight clothing all day so they can't fathom carrying anything bigger than a M&P shield, or retarded boomers that get assmad when people say carrying a .32 from 1981 is retarded for self-defense
>>
>>65617782
I straight up don't respect any healthy adult man that carries .380 or less. I know women that conceal carry full-size pistols and a spare mag. It's not hard.

Confusing anecdotal with statistical evidence is a sign of low IQ
>>
>>65617836
every uFMEA-related risk related to a self-defense situation is a severity 4-5 and costs very little to satisfactorily remediate
>probably won't happen to me, statistically speaking
is not a compelling argument when the adverse effect is death. By the way, the logical conclusion of your argument is to not even bother carrying a gun because less then half a percent of people annually are involved in a self-defense shooting
>>
>>65617782
>>65617846
I wear a seatbelt every time I drive a car and I keep a fire extinguisher, spare tire, and toolkit in the trunk; which is more than most people do
I DON'T put on a flame-retardant jumpsuit, crash helmet, neck brace, and five-point harness in the car that I've stripped the interior and welded a roll cage into
Now, I certainly agree that ONLY preparing for what is most likely is short-sighted, but preparing for things that are more likely before worrying about what is less likely is not, in and of itself, stupid
Even the people you're talking about will be fine 99% of the time.
>>

>>
>>65617848
>but preparing for things that are more likely before worrying about what is less likely is not, in and of itself, stupid
I'm not talking about suppressing your carry gun or putting an IR laser on it
the main people that i'm criticizing are ones that don't even do this, then claim that carrying a full size handgun is retarded. There is a significant venn diagram overlap between people carrying retarded shit and people who practice their draw on a live fire range maybe 2-3 times per year
We're talking about meeting a specific set of standards that the industry, cops, and civilian carriers have sort of independently resolved to be an acceptable qualification of competence, for instance a minimum draw to first shot from concealment of under 2 seconds
a couple threads ago, there was a moron claiming that carrying with an empty chamber is better because you won't risk shooting yourself and "statistically" he could rack it before using it if he needed to, which is just one of the most braindead opinions possible
>>
>>65617782

That's why my primary reason for owning and shooting guns is because they're cool and it's fun

It it does and it isn't, then I only have myself to blame, but I can live with that (or die with it, as the case may be)

I wouldn't touch a Diamondback, if I were you. The build quality on them is pretty poor. The Sidekick is same sort of metallurgy as the Rough Rider for 2x the price (I get that it shoots more rounds and has a swing out cylinder, but it is still cheap shit). I think Uberti make them and Cimarron sell what Uberti make, IIRC.

Just double checking on top of everything said, EAA, Standard, Charter, Pietta, Korth, Spohr, Rossi, Freedom, Manurhin and RIA all make revolvers. Pedersoli if you include black powder. I know the EAA product is not that good, not shot it, but I know it is made of pot metal and has really low end build quality and finish, but what you get for the cheap price tag it has.

It's still going to be overpriced, but it's probably going to be ok. Just ugly and expensive for no reason. Kind of like competition specific metal frame M&Ps already are, also often seen.

It’s only legal in Open, it doesn’t really shoot any softer than a high end 2011, and it gets really fucking hot if you shoot a lot of ammo through it, so it’s annoying to train with, and it’s also hard to get all of the peripherals for it. The newer Pythons are actually pretty good. Hard to go wrong with a 586/686 but I would avoid buying a newer S&W; look for a pre-lock one

As for the older Pythons, you can pretty easily find them for $12-1600, but expect a little bit of honest wear at that price. Here's a decent example: https://adelbridge.com/product/colt-python-357mag-23/

If you keep an eye on Gunbroker auctions, you'll often see them go for cheaper. Just make sure to inspect it and check the timing & forcing cone before accepting it

Your dad sounds like the average honest outlaw viewer.
>>
>>65620028
Every time someone tries to put a comp on a canik it turns into a weird problem. I’d pass on that basis alone. The triggers are okay, but for the price they’re being charged for now, you could get a Walther and have something that wasn’t molested by roaches.
>>
>>65620028
I shot a guy’s canik (some full-size model) the other day, it was nice. Compared to my Nighthawk 2011 I would probably get the same scores/hits.

Feature wise it’s jam packed with everything compared to the antique that’s the CZ75B, just tell him you want a classic gun and he’ll get it. Compared to a Glock what the Canik lacks in reputation/reliability they make up in features and accessories. I think the MC9 is the worst gun canik makes (tons of issues I’ve heard) compared to their more straight forward Walther clones

Comps and ports I think are a retard magnet, just fucking do your reps, do your dry fire, and you won’t need one. I myself have gone down the path of barrel ports and compensators, it’s valuable training tool to learn about shooter input but I wouldn’t carry one and shoot just as good without

So it seems to be that I should skip the MC9. Also forgive me for being so indecisive, I just want to make sure that I get the very best. I originally was just thinking about a M88A, but then I remembered that I am not a poorfag, so I can do better. That said $250 for a wood grip stainless M88 is tempting. I went from that to a Tanfoglio Witness to a CZ75B. The inner poorfag still says M88A and then do a DIY trigger and sear job. I don't know bros. The 75 still seems best as far as what I am interested in.

Personally, I love my CZ-75 (pre-B) but it's basically a range toy compared to my other guns. If I had to buy another CZ, I'd probably go with one of their newer models. The CZ-75B, to me, isn't old enough to be "retro" and it's not new enough to take advantage in 50 years of advancements in modern technology. It just occupied this weird middle ground.
>>
>>65620347

I love it, but really it boils down to it versus the Tanfoglio options out there. My father knows I am indecisive so when he points to shiny new guns with fresh reviews he knows that I will look at them for a bit. The other guy is right, I am sperging a bit.

I will say that I prefer tried and true over fresh and shiny, because before he suggested for me to buy a H9, since he knows I like 1911 ergonomics.

anyone have thoughts about Rost Martin? Im looking to get my first handgun, came across this bundle with 4 mags, carrying case, and an optic attached for $499. are they any good?

Im on a bit of budget, but since it comes with all those extras it seems worth spending a little more to have everything I need right away.

My other option for a more budget friendly handgun would be a Derya DY9Z for like $230, that doesnt come with any extras but is a good deal and seems like it might work nice for me. The guy at my local shop was a big fan of this one, and i was going to go with it until I saw the rost martin bundle.

I own 2. I like them. Grips are ok, trigger is crisp but heavy with a nice clear wall. Overall decent for the price

But I've been running into 10+ FTEs with my comp version recently. I asked them to buy a new recoil spring and they fucking told me recoil springs aren't a consumable item and don't need to be replaced. I got them to send me one so I can test my FTE problem.
>>
>>65620389

No idea what they are sorry. I'm hoping a new spring fixes my problems. I hadn't run into any issues, our haded 12/2025.

I hear that the certain models of Tanfoglio are flatter shooting, but wouldn't know firsthand. Honestly money is not an issue. I could opt for the 75 Legend if I wanted to, but I don't see anything it has is better than a B and my gripe with the SP-01 is front heaviness, but that is about it.

>>65620417
My original RM that I won in 2024 has been flawless so on that I'd suggest them. My comped one started this FTE nonsense last month, so I stopped carrying it and went back to my 226 for now.

You would need a new red dot, I wouldn't trust that one it comes with. Most are plastic.
>>
>>65620380
Just buy a Glock, it's not that hard
>>
>>65620423
Glocks cost more overall. RM is a good pistol with decent mags. The irons are fine and the trigger is good but heavy.
>>
If you're only going to buy one gun, just buy a Glock 19. Unlimited aftermarket, cheap mags, unlimited parts availability, probably no handgun has been tested more than the Glock 19

I'm not even a Glock guy but why go for these weird obscure guns with like zero install base over the most popular handgun in the US for decades?
>>
>>65620423
If I were neetanon I would just buy a used glock 19 or 48 or something and shoot w/ irons. Then again I haven't tried the rm1c so I can't say for sure anything about it.

>>
>>65620430
If you go new, a glock 19 is probably around 550 including shipping and tax I think? I might be wrong. Definitely price check for yourself on gun.deals. My LGS was selling them for slightly less than that. The 19 also isn't the only glock so do some research if you think a 48 or some other model might be the right one for you. And you can also buy something used for cheaper.

I haven't tried the CZ P10C but that's also an option that's cheaper I think. Dunno what the consensus is on that here.

Just be aware that you're gonna be spending a decent amount on ammo (we'll guide you) and a holster if you want to CC so if $540 is pushing you to your limit, you may want to think of a cheaper option. But, yes, a Glock 19 is pretty much the one handgun that can do it all

this is a big selling point for me. I wont be CC any time soon because I dont have a permit which my state requires. I would rather spend a little more now for something that will last me for potentially the rest of my life, than get something that wont hold up long or potentially will gives me a problem in an emergency situation. When i was watching a couple videos of the derya, one guy only had problems with it when he used certain brands of off market mags that supposedly fit any glock clones

Federal HST in whatever weight you will normally shoot, 115 is most common 9mm.

But you'll need to test a few self defense loads to make sure it'll cycle. My 226 won't cycle federal lawman stuff but it'll cycle gold dots and HST

do you carry +1?

>>
>>65620575
Correct. Some pistols don't like some loads. So you'll want to buy a couple hundred to be sure honestly.

You're more than likely fine with whatever you buy but just test it.

Aye. Also trushit are a bunch of niggers. Tried to charge me $20 to pick up ammo in store from an online order

>>65620583
I've only used them once but it was alright. TSUSA got me on the membership thing so now I have to order from them and make the savings go up!
>>
>>65620566
for self defense ammo (JHP) I use federal hsts. you can get a box of 50 for about 30 bucks. speer gold dot is fine too. hornady critical defense is fine as well but way overpriced so i would just stick with federal.

for range ammo (FMJ) I go blazer, fiocchi, s&b. 115g and 124gr are what i get.

you need to test your gun to see if it likes whatever self defense ammo you decide to stick with. and don't forget to oil your gun a little, some guns want to run more wet than others. glocks should be fine with a tiny bit of lube.
>>
>>65620592
>>65620581

does grain size actually make much of a difference that you can notice when firing?
>>
>>65620566
>what ammo would you suggest?
For training? Anything that says CCI Blazer (black box), Federal (Red box) or Fiocchi (blue box) in 115 or 124 grain.

For defense, I use Speer Gold Dot. I order it online. Never buy ammo in a brick and mortar store
>>
>>65620602
Ya, you can feel the difference between 115/124/147.

Mostly fine with 115 for terminal ballistics, I carry 124 HST so I shoot 124 ball.
>>
>>65620603
so like this one is good for training purposes?

It does spark joy at the idea of having a 9mm that is low recoil and a consistent accurate shooter and fits my hands fairly well, so steel construction and slimmer than a Beretta 92 (which is a slightly too wide for my hands to comfortably hold). I also want something that cuts through hype and will last a long time. I am a manlet, but not a target (dwarfish, I would say). I got hit with "CZ is a gun for men, the Canik is for manlets like you, Anon".
>>65620736
The new ones still are. What I am looking at is $250 which is fine for a wooden grip stainless finish model, but the other anon is right. Only reason why I want a Tokarev is that is what my great uncle had in the police (this was in the USSR, thank goodness the folks were smart enough to come over to the US), so a 9x19 version sounds tempting. The alternatives are the FEG which go for $700+ or the Norinco which is honestly even more Reddit and I would sooner trust Yugoshit over Chinkshit.
>>65620722
Glocks have a mushy trigger out of the box, though.
>>
>>65620751
Honestly it sounds like you should just buy a 92, get thin grips from LOK and get the TJIAB.

Or just buy a CZ and send it to CGW if the trigger bothers you
>>
>>65620754
I was thinking of Cajunizing the CZ, but this is where the Tanfoglio comes in (Defiant Stock I specifically), since it has the same weight of trigger pull as the CGW kit provides and has fully adjustable sights, but I have a hard time finding reviews on the 9mm Defiant Stock Is. Consider that a CZ75B is $600 in most cases while a Defiant Stock I is on sale at $700. If we look at Cajunizing then the CZ not the better deal. Money isn't that much of an issue I am just being a proverbial Jew with things. It is 90% the same gun, only thing that is different is the trigger pull and weight distribution.

Also I shot the 75B as a rental and I did not mind the trigger pull, I also shot a Glock 19 the same session and found it to be mushier than what I liked.
>>
>>65620771
Honestly, even with all your whacky parameters, assuming you're an American I would get A cz over the tangfolio. I'd probably get a more modern version but there should be way more parts, mag and holster compatibility with the CZ over the Tang
>>

That settles it. I am American by the way. Excuse me for bean counting, I just saw the deal and read up on the gun.

>>heavier guns will have more recoil and muzzle flip
Muzzle flip no. If they have heavy slides then you might get more of a recoil impulse due to all the reciprocating mass. Some people try to mitigate this by installing heavier reaction springs, but then that just makes the return to battery impulse more snappy.
>>
>>65620052
Could you elaborate further on porting and comps? I got back into guns recently and enjoyed a few comped rentals. I figure if you work at it and attain stronger fundamentals the porting would only work in your favor, no? Cheers
>>
>>65621560
Not him, but porting/comps are supposed to help with recoil mitigation. However, you can train for all this and not need them.
>>
>>65621564
This is why 50AE is the BARE MINIMUM for serious self defense
>>
>>65621560
Once you understand that it’s not about stopping the gun from moving, recoil “control” is a fool’s errand, what really matters is getting the gun back on target. Understanding how much input you need to bring the muzzle back down to where you want is how you actually shoot fast. A compensator or port theoretically reduces the amount of input you need to get back down to your POA or “zero”, but at 9mm standard pressure is kind of just a gimmick.
https://youtu.be/SQubpTzHUnw

Like if you do double drills, two rounds as fast as you can at a point of aim, any round that is below your POA is you putting too much input in your return to zero. Any above is not enough input. A compensator doesn’t actually make your gun any faster returning to zero, you still need to put in input and putting in the right amount of input with an uncomped gun will be just as fast.

Another thing is training your eyes to see fast, to see your red dot back on target so you can react to seeing a flash of red where you want to shoot versus just predicting that your gun is back on target. A compensator theoretically prevents the muzzle rise and so you shouldn’t “lose” the dot or point of aim, but if you can see fast then it’s not super useful.
>>
>>65621564
aside from more places to clean and general added complexity, they can't really hurt your shooting though, right?
>>
>>65621577
Bad ports/comps shave the jacket and create inaccuracy, the shaved jacket being expelled from your ports as shrapnel is a hazard to your eyes + muzzle blast to the eyes isn’t great, the increased muzzle blast will make shooting in enclosed spaces more uncomfortable and disorienting.

I shoot 10mm and .45, actually I had some strings at my last steel challenge where I was faster with 10mm than 9mm so maybe I’m not an unbiased source
>>
>>65621584
I have my eye on a CR920XP, maybe a CR920XL would be a better choice, I have been considering the XL for other reasons
>>
>>65621577
I don't know about hurting your shooting but it can induce failures if I recall correctly. Some ammo may no longer work. Don't know how prolific that is though.
>>
>>65621589
what I think would be a good option is a gun you can get an unported barrel or otherwise convert back to uncomped. you can then understand shooter input much better being able to swap between the same gun's configuration

plus you can then compete in uncomped and comped divisions if you would like

>switch between comp and non comped
Basically just have two slides. One comped/ported and one not. maybe I should get my glock comped and ported for shits and giggles.

I should be able to get two new pews by fagstate permit-to-purchase come May, one will likely be factory comped for aforementioned shits and giggles, probably a Glock/VP9/509 for a more serious home defense gun. I already have an OG stock Shield too

or just swapping the barrel

>I could opt for the 75 Legend if I wanted to, but I don't see anything it has is better
I may be biased but I think the Legend is much nicer than my B. The trigger in my B feels springy? meanwhile the Legend does not and the milled frame is feels better. Polished barrel too and looks better. I personally prefer CZs without the FPB
>>
To anybody with a Browning Buck Mark, do you notice any zero shift after you remove the top strap for disassembly?
I want a classic plinker and also a classic plinker with a dot and a suppressor; on a Ruger Mark the barrel is the firearm so you wind up with two firearms but with the Buck Mark you could just have one frame (the firearm) and then swap barrels and straps. But if every time I do that the zero is going to shift around, I'd rather just have two firearms and then it makes sense to get the Ruger[s] instead.

I know at least one guy has converted a 96 to 10mm decades back. I think he cut and welded the frame to add length. If Beretta made a 10mm based on the steel frames though that would be awesome.

They can hurt reliability, and produce more felt noise, which is very bad in a confined space like a car or a hallway. They also make the gun bigger.
>>
>>65621439
How’d that work out?
>>
>>65619309
That's perspective.

Either that or I need to consider DIYing some armor out of these stupid bowls

Need to improve my target setup badly
>>
>>65621914
Navy SEALs adopted it as the Mk 24 Mod 0.
>>
>>65621984
how was the herters and winchester 10mm? (pretty sure they're made in the same factory)
>>
>>65621987
they also adopted the Glock 26 as the Mk26, but you don't see retards going around calling their chode Glock "the navy seal gun"
>>
>>65622039
Well they should.
>>
>>65621445
I was going to tell him that but he was halfway to bed. It was kind of stupid what he had said with muzzle flip. For recoil, the frame should matter too.
>>65621751
Noted. Is it worth the $500 difference?

>To anybody with a Browning Buck Mark, do you notice any zero shift after you remove the top strap for disassembly?
First, you're not really meant to do it that often Maybe a deep cleaning every year or so.
Second, maybe a little at like 50 yards. If you're not shooting bullseye with it you won't really notice
>>
im getting a pink gun. dont laugh.

>Is it worth the $500 difference?
I think only you can answer that for yourself, Anon

Wait... $500? How much do you think a CZ-75B is? Those things are cheap as fuck
>>
>>65622064
New is $600 current day (according to gun.deals unless things have changed in the two days since I last checked), used is like $400 sometimes less, new for a Legend is $1100, I didn't bother checking used because of how new it is. Pre-B surplus is like $450 from a supplier I found.

Maybe I am barking up the tree.
>>
>>65621984
Get one big enough for your head then put a chin strap on it.
>>
>>65622072
>barking up the tree
Up the wrong tree, but you get the idiom.
>>
how is gun control even real?
how can "shal not be infringed" repeatedly be infringed?
>>
>>65622072
Unless you have intense autism, don't even consider the pre-B. Mags are borderline unobtanium, CGW won't touch it and there's zero support from CZ themselves
>>
>>65622086
just because I banned all guns doesn't mean I'm infringing. Also it says militia so it only applies to the militia. etc.
>>
>>65622089
I wrote them off for the exact reason you described. I was thinking of B or Legend, but the SP-01/P-01 anon sounds like he has a fair suggestion.
>>
>>65622086
America was a very different place, things were very very dark, we gave women the right to vote and it fucked everything up. Prohibition and its consequences are one of the worst things to happen to America
>>
>>65622086
It all came from trying to keep guns away from blacks
>>
>>65622101
We really need a list of every politician that voted for the Hart-Cellar Act and enshrine it in history as the worst sin democracy after committed

>>65622097
I don't think you'll be disappointed with either. I would lean towards the P-01 because it seems easier to conceal
