it was killed by ux bafflegabbers and agencies performing clown shows, who do month long research, only to deliver a subpar design

I would go even further back to the early 2010's with templates. Less businesses hired independent graphic designers and instead outsourced to services like Microsoft Publisher. Currently it's Canva pushing for cookie cutter templates that's killing a lot of the creative industry. After all, why hire an artist when you can do the work faster by putting a spreadsheet into a pick and place service? AI is just the extension of that thought, make design "easier" because when everyone's a designer... No one is.

In a round about way you could say yes. You need to be a “digital designer” more so than just a graphic designer nowadays. you’re able to network better when you can do graphic design, motion design, rendering, music etc.

I couldn’t imagine being a successful designer now without being able to render my own assets via 3D or AI or whatever

I thought that in 2023 but now people find out they can't use a 1024x1024 image as print and frustrate themselves unable to generate just a simple line of text, I think AI showed it could not replace me at least.
I do cheat, I generate some elements to get the whole idea but it's inevitable, we got to work to get quality.

AI users are retards. It's like someone who think they can build their house if it's just laying bricks. EASY NO SKILLS REQUIRED! Only a few grands in bricks and plasterboard, after a floor of concrete

Not completely but yeah, that new ChatGPT image 2 is insane, I use it to make flyers when I get requests at work. I already saw some chick that's not a graphic designer using it and trying to rub my face in it. I probably have less than 2 years left before I'm fired or the career is just completely done. The only thing it can't really do is specialized things, like using branding and fonts for the company I work for, making a booklet etc...so right now it's a life saver for knocking out posters and flyers, but soon it will be a career ender, probably with the next release of Nano Banana

    You can upscale with AI.
It's literally a feature in photoshop.
    >AI users are retards.
You are a graphic designer who doesn't even know how to use their own tool set professionally.

    >>463696
only if you are bad at it.

Maybe the shitty designers got put out to pasture, but I got more work than ever. AI did me a solid by getting rid of the shitty underpriced competition lol

lmfao this is totally legal and even supported by the government
    >>
Graphic design was never really a real profession. It was always something unemployed people tried to do for money. AI taking jobs is a cope because there were never enough jobs to call it a legitimate profession anyway - at least not since the internet started

Seems like it was sort of legit from the 50's through the 90's.
By the 2000's it was ultra competitive.
By the 2010's, it was a fake job for women. Any man who studied it took a few gigs and a low end job or two before just moving onto some other field.
But I get your point, when someone tells me they're a graphic designer, I immediately assume they're unemployed or make $15/hr at a print shop.
