Depends, what resolution and size are you planning on? If 27” 1440p then yeah worth waiting but idk if panels are coming any time soon. If 27” 4k, not necessary as pixel density is already high enough. 32” 4k is also not necessary tbqh. It really only benefits 1440p monitors.

Prices might not be that bad at 1440p the 32" rgb stripe launched around 1100 which was a lot cheaper than I though they'd be. They'lll probably launch around $600-$800.
>>
>>110202664
miniled monitors are never worth it because there's not enough dimming zones, they get way worse panels, IPS trash and VA trash ones and the biggest issue is the local dimming algorithms and firmware are all fucking chinese shit that don't work and have zero support. Even the ones that claim they do the HDR1000+ peak brightness can only maintain them for like 1 minute at a time before they start throttling and limiting the brightness.
>>
I could have bought a new chair, laptop, phone, or a lot of building materials but instead I buy this old piece of junk from 2021. Why am I doing this? Have I gone mad?
>>
Every time I look at this thread it's people arguing about fucking monitors.

Go look at a monitor you want to buy. Does it look good to you? Okay, fucking buy it.

Monitors are absolutely the most verifiable part of your build in that you can just go and look at them and see the image for yourself.

The only instance where I felt MiniLED was worth the premium was when I got a discounted 5K MiniLED from LG for the same price as an SDR 5K monitor.
>>
Speaking of Mini LED monitors, the new RGB MiniLED HiSense televisions just shipped to my store and I'm actually surprised, from a distance I thought this was an OLED TV. The biggest difference between the noticeably brighter and more vivid colors? The viewing angles are way better. I'm actually surprised at how much better the viewing angles look for an LCD, not talking about the blooming. Coating also seems matte or half glossy here.

Spent summer vacation in Japan this year, checked out some of the new RGB miniLED TVs @ Yodobashi Camera.
The TV attendant was excited to show off the Bravia 9 Mk II in a dedicated show room.
It looked great, but the TV was running 4K Blu-Ray Avengers movies.
The dimming algorithm worsens when you switch over to Game Mode, and sometimes triggers full-white miniLED fallback (happens more often in Chinese RGB miniLED TVs apparently).

chairs will still be here in a decade, laptops will still be here two years from now, phones will exist for the distant future, building materials aren't going anywhere. The am4 is sunsetting but people will still buy a system with a 5800x3d in the future.

I just checked the prices of DDR5 16GB and it's 1000 PLN, last seen in 2007 and 2017. Maybe my greed to match or exceeded my 32, and then 96GB of system capacity got the better of me when I could have afforded a low capacity kit and it might've been enough for workstation tasks, not like 12GB is a large amount of VRAM when you skipped out on 24. And for what, bigger number better glory chasing?

Fact is, I didn't to spend another 1000-2000 on a board and memory. Total cost would have been double of a X3D at least for a basic system on AM5, as opposed to keeping my memory with okay performance.

Modern computing is way overpowered. The stuff coming out today (even the 5800x3d) will still have people buying it 5 years from now. you'll be able to pawn these computers of for a long while just not at an insane price that you see them today. A computer from 1996 was completely worthless in 2006 in comparison to a computer from 2016 today. The future will only have computer hardware remain relavent for longer periods of time. going to struggle with anything stronger than a 7800x3d and even that you will have to use eco mode if you want it to run cold. Stick to 65w cpus but if you can get a bigger cooler like the noctua l12-77 you can get away with a 9800x3d

9800x3d and you underclock/undervolt it until it's as cold as you want, it's that simple

the 9800x3d is 100% an upgrade on the 7800x3d or the 7700x3d because:
4nm instead of 5nm
you CAN underclock it and undervolt, the 7xxxx3d is supposedly locked
so you can run it at 4.5ghz like the 7700x3d and it'll consume less voltage and be less hot, it's that simple

You won't get $300 worth of extra performance with the 14700K.
Your memory modules are too modestly specced to get the most out of that CPU.
You're realistically looking at 3600MT/s manual OC + tighter timings as the ceiling. Add multiple days of stability testing if you do this.
You also need to know the safer CPU voltages when stability testing memory OC.

This.

Molar coarse, more L1/L2 cache, more single threaded performance, and an iGPU though. Outside of gaming that should be a generational leap on top of being monolithic, while in theory you can power limit it so that it runs fine even on a B760 board so it brings the cost to at least an extra 150-200 dollars.

According to PassMark scores the 14600/14700 have like 25-30% better single threaded score on top of more l1/L2, even if you do something like daisy chain memory surely at some point the l3 cache on the Ryzen will be overwhelmed and the CPU gets exposed hard in actual CPU heavy work?
>>
>>110211924
Actual CPU heavy work is subjective. Open Hwinfo 64 summary tab and look at all the extensions your CPU support. Each extension is a different workload and is either memory bound or core bound. A lot of the day to day stuff we do ends up being memory bound. Windows loves to use virtual memory a lot even if you have a ton of physical ram so by having less L3 cache you are spamming more page faults which stalls the whole system.

I already know about this, the reason I haven't upgraded the bios is because I'm lazy.

I see it differently, 3d vcache is amazing tech and it's the extremely dated zen3 cores in the 5800x3d that's holding it back. 3d vcache is somehow effective enough in boosting crappy old zen3 to be able to match or beat golden cove in most games.
>>
>>110211995
You'll almost never find low cas latency ram in prebuilts because it's a quick and easy way to cut costs and nearly no prebuilt buyer is aware low latency ram is a thing
If it's a prebuilt advertising 6000mhz ram, assume it has cl48 or at best, cl36 ram. cl30 and below are enthusiast tier ram that only exists in diy or boutique builds

Which is why I theorize spending $555 to platform swap with a cheap b760 board might be better than paying $400 for a sub-$180 CPU in everything that isn't games friendly to MOAR CACHE if you already have more than 64GB of DDR4 and wanna do workstation stuff too. Shit compared to 7800x3d probably yes, but still cheaper than going AM5. Question is whether the margin is big enough, whether you intend to skip a socket, whether you need all the ram. 7800x3d + 16gb of ddr5 is already the same cost of a 14700k + b760, while a 14600k + b760 is the same as a 5800x3d in price.

False. Board manufacturers lazily applied the maximum 1.10 Ohms CPU AC/DC loadline in their newer BIOS, which causes the CPU to reach the 253W PL2 limit faster than necessary.
Buildzoid released multiple videos in 2024 on how to claw back performance & efficiency on three separate boards (MSI, ASUS, & Gigabyte).

I used to daily a 14700K with a 180W power limit, it retained over 96% of the stock 253W power draw's multicore performance.

That's what I need to know, because all these damn benchmarks from HUB and GN use stock power settings so it makes the chips look hilariously bad compared to the 5800X3D for example when my brain tells me it should trounce Zen 3 with any RAM, while Google results keep suggesting me DDR4 will choke it somehow. I saw a forum thread somewhere showing a MT score result depending on the power limit or something.

Like seriously, an undervolt offset, Disable CEP,, manual power limit, manual Voltage limit, all of this on a B760 should keep a 14700K in check on a standard dual tower air cooler with low voltages even in single core workloads.

This isn't necessary for Z- boards for sure. IDC about how B- boards work.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5zDWWSKyjM

Midtier & higher end ASUS boards have a feature that automatically syncs the board's voltage regulator load line to the CPU AC/DC loadlines.
You just have to change the LLC to cause less voltage droop to reduce CPU AC LL.
You need to experiment the right DC LL + VR LLC for other brand of boards.
Vcore and VID reading shouldn't be too far off, but it also shouldn't be perfectly sync'd to account for the less accurate voltage sensors.
ASUS has features like socket sense & die sense that more accurately reports CPU voltages.

Not trying to be an ASUS shill, but they do offer these enthusiast features.
>>
>>110213576
Most people at this point in the market for raptor lake are gonna be buy b760 chipsets from Asus/Gigabyte/MSI so some might need a bios update to enable further voltage Control, but I think they should have LLC controls too.

it's roughly on par with a 5800X3D in games when running XMP

when you overclock the RAM it pulls away hard
