Do you use tiling window managers, /g/? Why or why not?
>>110185944There is no usecase other than posting in >>110132634 .You retards need to stop being tinkerjeets and use your PC for work or something productive like watching Anime.

>>110185944Because tilling window manager doesn't eat up a lot of RAM and has few background processes. preconfigured/defined layout is just a bonus.
No. Feels clunky to use and actively reduces my available screen space significantly. And for the case where I need two or three windows with documents open I can do that just as well with a normal window manager.

I use Claude window manager, I tell it what to do with a window and it does it
>>110186029Isn't the point of a tiling manager to make full use of screen real estate? Hope I'm not being retarded.
I use both. I prefer tiling on my laptop where screen real estate is limited and make liberal use of virtual desktops. On my desktop though I prefer a standard DE since I have more monitors and screen space for multiple windows.
>>110185944I hope you understand that your picture is just presentation to show window arrangements and color schemes. No one uses TWMs like that. Most people run programs in full screen mode and switch between workspaces.
>>110185944Use case for a tiling wm? PopOS has the best of both worlds.
>>110185944I have two screens, both of them have one thing full screen window on them. If I need something else I switch the desktop
>>110186029gap meme fags are not the norm outside of sissies-in-hiding posting their desktops online
>>110185944Tiling is a pain in the ass.
theoretically it's wonderful until you open something that isn't a terminal emulator and you have to spend 3 minutes fucking around with your layout, or you get a pop-up dialog window that ruins everything. Overall, I found it to be more trouble than it's worth like... 16 years ago. It is crazy people still pretend to use it.

>>110189966that's just one workspace for their useless chatting program anywaybut it doesn't matter since nobody does real work with a tiling wm
>>110185944i use dwm on my laptopkde plasma on desktop
I use one because1. It's much more amenable to keyboard shortcuts. For example switching between windows based on their position rather than alt-tab, or resizing without click and drag, swapping them, etc2. With a regular wm, my desktop gets progressively cluttered with windows while I'm working, eventually just switching/finding them becomes real cognitive overhead. Tiling WM takes care of this for me.
>>110190078>Tiling WM takes care of this for me.I want to know more about this because this was actually why I stopped using a tiling wm. Hearing that it solved it for you means you know or do something I don't.
most floating window managers have decent tiling options that render these completely obsolete. you're likelier to just always be running one maximized window anyway.
Unironically i need to ask use case for traditional desktops. When I was a kid using windows 10, I always just alt-tabbed through fullscreen applications, and found it an utter nuisance to have a floating window on the screen that doesn't take up a set portion of the available screenspace. And then you have some other window that gets in the fucking way of that original window- what's the point of having multiple open programs with GUIs that obfuscate eachother? That's retarded. Ever since I used DWM shit's just been perfect for me.
>>110185944yeah, they're fun and got very easy to config in recent years, you can just install wm, noctalia and a basic suite like terminal and file manager, config keybinds and noctalia will care of the rest.
I found it matches with my workflow, until I use a secondary minotor. Anyone has experiences with titling for 2 monitors?
>>110190384based dwm chad. most programs stay on their own workspace, but i have my terminals grouped
>>110190456to be fair i use i3 nowi use tmux and helix in xterm as my dev environment btw :3
