Isn't it awesome that we're the villains of these threads in their minds, where we live rent free? You with your lil stalker who reposts your old screenshots, and my lil stalker who seethes and spergs from just seeing the word "omarchy". It's extra hilarious that they both started their spergseethe before either of us even got to this thread. That's how much space we occupy in their brain rent free. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same sperg either. Same m.o. in both cases.

funny story. i've been posting in this thread since as far back as 2023 and have posted stuff showing that off. so their seethe and mental illness they force is more comical as they role play in their made up i'm new here when they are.

Yeah, I've been here posting my desktop for probably 15 or so years. It's only in the last year that I started using Omarchy. I've been using Linux since 1994, started with slackware then moved onto gentoo, but then around December of 2025 the laptop I was using died, so I picked up a cheap Thinkpad on eBay and installed Omarchy on it to play with and ended up liking it so I kept using it

I don't actually have problems with linux and have a few installs of it. Some versions of it can be very nice. I just prefer windows and messing mostly with 311 up to 7 though 8 has its own odd charms. 11 is filth and 10 is barely tolerable. but I like tiny linux for a few reasons and a few others. I actually will be getting Omarchy to check it out because I would eventually and cross dressing bi males seethe so hard and get enraged people dont have the same views as them. so when they seethe because someone "dare" not think like them I tend to side with the victims not the crazy mentally ill seething over views people are allowed to have. but you know how some act...like their view is the only allowed view and moral stance. lol, lmao no.

hi guys how are you doing, it's me, mario
so, i haven't really changed my desktop since more than a decade and i wanted to try (again) wayland without the pain of using a completely different system
asking chatgpt and she told me hyprland would be awesome to replace bspwm + sxhkd with, so i'm gonna try setting that up now with my current keybindings
there are some x utilities i would need to replace, i need to think about them, for example i use maim a lot (previously it was scrot), i wonder if there is anything similar for wayland

Not that anon, but I don't understand this irrational obsession some anons seem to have with all Linux users NEEDING to know every single command and line of code themselves. The entire point of free software is FREEDOM. AI is now giving that freedom to *everyone* and not just people who spend years learning scripting and programming languages and a shit load of commands. Using AI is in line with the spirit of free software. It all started over a printer driver; the OEM refused to furnish the source so rms and a few other dudes wrote their own because they wanted to add a feature the printer was physically capable of but the driver didn't allow. It's all about the FREEDOM to make the software do what you want it to do. It's not about the HOW of it all, it's about the end result.

I don't use gentoo anymore, but I did for many, many years (I'm the anon that posted my gentoo desktop from 2012; already had used it for over a decade before that) and I did compile everything. It's not as bad as it sounds, because portage is really reliable you can set it to install a bunch of packages and go to bed. Very, very rarely did I wake up to an error, or the packages still compiling. It's not a distro for people with instant gratification needs. You might as well run something else if that's you, because running all binary packages is the only way that's happening at which point you're basically running what used to be its own separate distro called "sabayon"

The human touch. It's like the difference between mass produced tables vs a handcrafted table. Code and programming is also like this. It's not about AI, it's about using your own hands to prove you are skilled. The real fear with AI is losing the know-how and craft as to WHY things are done a certain way and HOW to do it.
>>
>>110156748
>also my css breaks slightly about once a month so i'm just waiting for the full demise
Simplify it some more? Before you apply the CSS, edit the look of firefox first through its own settings, then apply the CSS into the profile folder for fine-tuning.

But why does it matter to other people if MY system has stuff that's 'vibe coded'? It's not something they ever have to use. Why do they give a shit that I choose not to waste years of my life learning programming languages just to change a feature of a program to suit my personal needs when I can literally just start an opencode session and tell a clanker to make changes on my machine? That's what I'm talking about. It's to the point where people are "ashamed" to admit they vibe coded something for their own personal use. Not everyone wants to be a programmer, nor spend *years* in some cases posting the same feature request after each new version of a piece of software is released because the dev didn't think that feature was important enough. Now those same people who don't have an interest in programming have a way to get that feature added immediately on-demand. Believe it or not, some people use Linux just because they hate Windows and macOS, but want a painless system that does what they want it to do without having to tinker for hours. AI is the solution. You type what you want in plain English and it happens. It's like a text version of the computers in Star Trek. We're living in the goddamn future while luddites form cults of anti AI. Look at the Association for Human Mathematics... They're fucking bonkers.
>>
>>110156872
>But why does it matter to other people if MY system has stuff that's 'vibe coded'?
They're not important. What's important is asking yourself the question why you even engage or interact with such people. Anon, you remember the laws about trolling, right? Don't wade into the same water as the crabs and dumb yourself down into the fucking bucket. Come on, learn to disengage, you're acting the same way converts to a new religion or country do.

It comes down to a simple reason: "I don't like it. I think you should know." Everything else is just an excuse to justify or moralize said reason. Quit trying to dig any deeper because that's just leading towards the usual nihilism of human nature. There's nothing to gain looking into the abyss.
>>
>>110156872
I don't know about this cultist, but i think both the pro and anti AI are the same thing. Always shit posting to one side or the other.

It's a software, well unfortunately it has so much marketing you can't even thrust the "success stories", but hey there are clearly some people that enjoy using AI, such as my grandpa.
Personally i look at my phones battery life, cursing that yet another app added a AI bot or some other drainer.

What you didnt know though is that its the only good linux desktop thats tastefully themed fully built in rust no bloat, no bloated toolkits, no legacy code.

KDE had over 2 decades to make a functional desktop, and over a decade to figure out VRR and optimization, and I just one shotted it with gpt 6 astra. They constantly changed themes, changed design, changed all this shit instead of just making a sleek simple desktop with features.

My file picker is fully featured loads instantly in 7ms median and works fully with 200% scaling on a 4K monitor using wayland. Loads thumbnails instantly too. Changing directorys and opening images/videos is also instant.

Its still alpha heres the release. It has its own login manager, Everything in rust using wayland. The icons can be smaller.

https://gitea.com/slycat555/lumen

So far GPT 6 astra has basically one shotted everything. It still needs some work though. Im using it as my main desktop now on my PC so I'll improve it with my own use.

I would use KDE but its so god damn slow. It takes like 100ms to open the file manager and lets not talk about gwenview.

I think its silly when people scream about vibed code will simply be abandoned when their creator runs out of tokens. If the code is clean and coherent there is no reason not to recycle it.

The window tabbing/grouping looks interesting. Since it's based on river it hopefully has fewer quirks than fvwm.
I wonder how window swallowing will be implemented. Maybe it can create a minimal compositor to embed the window inside?

I have an ancient nvidia card that has to use the 470 driver and I theres no way to get hardware acceleration working in most things on linux with that driver. I caved and used windows for about a year before ive come crawling back because the experience of using windows is terrible. I will rather eat having no video acceleration in browsers on linux
>>
>>110175225
Debian 13 still has the 470 driver in the package nvidia-tesla-470-driver. This works on consumer cards.
>>
>>110175364
Arch also has fermi drivers in AUR; nvidia-470xx-dkms nvidia-470xx-utils nvidia-470xx-settings lib32-nvidia-470xx-utils, dunno why anon suffered all that time when the solution was literally one search away
>>
>>110175364

the problem isnt driver availability, it's nothing has support for decoding video using it. You have to have nvidia 525+ to have working video decoding in anything outside of mpv

You best get used to using yt-dlp to download your videos, or IIRC it should be fairly shrimple to write a script outputting video web links to mpv.
Here's an example: https://github.com/mpv-easy/mpv-easy/tree/main/mpv-play-with
>>
>>110178409
I admit Strawberry isn't the best in the looks department, but in terms of functionality, I haven't found anything I like better. Also, in Strawberry's defense, you can disable the giant sidebar and use smaller icons at the top instead.

keeping your PC parts warm actually makes them last longer, nigger. Look at a bridge or a road for example, they constantly cool down and heat up and cracks form. Same thing in your PC.

You're not wrong. The only reason my old macbook that I turned into a media server stays on 24/7 is because it's also my headscale mesh server. >>110185622
thanks anon, im patient which, sometimes, is as good as being lucky!
Have you got photos of the actual system? Interested in how this all looks on the display
>>
>>110185660
Zero photos with the Booklet too, but it looks amazing as expected, it's a 1280x720 10" screen, keep in mind that the Booklet was premium at the time it was launched, the quality is top notch, its problems stem from the underpowered CPU for heavy tasks (like video play) and limit of 1GB of RAM. Otherwise, it's packed with connectivity options (WiFi, 3G, BT, GPS), it has a ~10 hours of battery time (my battery is at 40% health and still keeps it powered on for about 4 hours and I don't even have suspend yet on my OS.
The strength of the system comes from its full open-ness: the Atom CPU doesn't have speculative execution (has in-order execution) so it's not vulnerable to Meltdown/Spectre, the SCH doesn't contain Intel ME, the wifi card doesn't require binary blob firmware upload for power up, 3g card has Standalone GPS and Assisted GPS, etc. It's an amazing platform to work on, providing you don't want to watch youtube or run photoshop on it. It's just SO rare and SO expensive.
Someone put some photos of it on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/tnkgrl/albums/72157623082135352/
