    >Who is /fat/ for?
For ramen ravagers working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
    Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

    >What do I do first?
    1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
    2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
    3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
    4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
    5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

    >Now what?
    Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
    Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
    Drink more water.

to what degree can raw (shredded) cabbage replace bread? it turns out I eat about ~2600 calories a day. replacing ~350 grams of bread (~850 calories) with ~350 grams of cabbage (~90 grams) would make my daily intake drop from ~2600 to ~1840. seems too good to be true as what worries me the most is length of fullness as I aim to maintain 3 meals with no snacks. also are there any particular veggies that provide fullness? and does cabbage have to be washed beyond throwing the outer leaves into garbage?
    >>
    >>77589010
Soups made from roasted vegetables are delicious. Wish I could make them more often.
What do you think of miso soup? Japanese eat them for every meal and they're filling and customizable. They take 10 minutes to make because you're just stirring dashi powder and miso paste into hot water, but they have a lot of flavor. Add rehydrated wakame or some baby spinach for fiber and firm tofu cubes or an egg for protein.
    >>
    >>77587933
I think it's easier to restrict, mark certain foods as off-limits. I find it difficult to stop at a moderate portion when the food is right there. Constantly tasting a bite of the food here and there is just reminding me that it exists and keeping it at the forefront of my mind. If I decide a food is off-limits, then that is the decision being made and I don't have to revisit it or renegotiate every time I see the food in the kitchen.

What worked for me was not buying any junk food anymore at all, however not banning it completely either. If I want to eat it I have to make it myself from scratch. If I bake something like brownies I preportion it and freeze them. thawing them naturally takes a while so I let one piece thaw and I can't just binge them all at once.

When I start hating my lifting routine I either switch it up and just do my favourite exercises for a few days or do some totally different workout like going for a long bikeride or a swim. The most important part to not spiral into quitting is to at least keep the workout days active.

How do you former fatties get over the mental block of bulking?
    >Spend years fighting against your own ravenous appetite, denying yourself food, counting every calorie, and basically having to fight your own body every single day just to stop being an obese fuck
    >Finally manage to lose the weight after God knows how much effort and self-denial
    >Still don't even look particularly good, just halfway decent with that weirdly soft, bulbous look
    >Apparently you need to bulk to look decent
WHAT? You're telling me that after spending years teaching myself to eat LESS, fighting the urge to eat more at every opportunity, and living in constant fear of putting the weight back on, I'm now supposed to deliberately reverse course?
    Eat MORE? On PURPOSE?
Watch the number on the scale that I've spent years desperately trying to bring down start climbing again?
And somehow trust that this time it'll magically make me look better instead of turning me back into the fat fuck I spent half my life trying to escape?
I understand the logic of building muscle intellectually, but emotionally it feels like being told to walk straight back into a burning building I barely managed to crawl out of.
I just can't get into it. Even the thought of deliberately gaining weight makes my stomach turn. How do you get past this?
    >>
    >>77589811
If you look soft and bulbous, you can probably stand to lose some more weight. Or try recomping first
In any case you shouldn't be going more than 100-200 calories over your TDEE, so psychologically just treat it as eating maintenance + a little bit more protein than usual instead of "bulking" = time to pig out.
    >>
    >>77589819
    >you can probably stand to lose some more weight
You're almost certainly right... back to it then

How do you deal with someone who is fat but doesnt want to listen to anything. My brother wants to diet, we are the same height he weighs about 230lbs and I weigh 170lbs. So im telling him about what I do to diet. Calculate my calorie goals, eating less than that, working out, etc. He has a list of excuses everytime

Low glycemic diets like keto or fasting preserve muscle mass.

Muscle loss during weight loss is caused by eating carbs. Carbs raise insulin. Insulin blocks fat burning. When fat burning is blocked you lose muscle.

Day 44/500 of weight loss complete
She began drinking water with salt and potassium in it yesterday. It should help with fasting but really it's just making her poop straight liquid and very often, as well as often having to urinate. Maybe she'll get used to it.
    >>77590044
It's difficult to lose weight for yourself and you have full control over your own actions
Trying to do so for someone else, someone you have less control over, is nearly impossible. They have to be the one that wants to lose weight and willing to make the sacrifices required otherwise it'll rarely go anywhere unless you have some kind of extreme power dynamic over them (typically parental though maybe spousal or work related) which offers you a lot of control over their life.
Someone saying they want to lose weight doesn't do anything if they aren't willing to do what's necessary to achieve such goals.
    >>77588869

    Fine
She can use a name and trip. The posting habits stay however.
It's just annoying to have the trip up because next time she posts if she forgets to clear the name field it'll stay filled and a random post on another random board will be forever attached to this trip
Y'all don't need to see her fetishes and her shitposts. They're both quite awful.
    >>77588911
She merely desires attention but she can live without it. It's not strictly necessary.
    >>77588928
The ability for others to ignore her is also a big part of why she posts like she does. with the name and trip it becomes easier to ignore her. She's okay with this however, filter evasion is a step too far from what she's okay with doing, so despite her dislike of other people being able to filter her she won't be doing anything to prevent them from doing so if they so wish. Filter evasion is a constant game of cat and mouse she doesn't feel like playing anyways.

Should i walk or add cardio?
    Should i just eat less?

Perhaps if you don't eat at all and keep that gym routine, probably possible
    >>
    >>77591912
How long exactly is "a bit over". To accomplish that in 2 months you'd have to lose nearly a half pound a day. Not really doable.
    >>
    >>77591912
If you're short and thus relatively very fat it's possible. Eat 500 cals a day on average for the next two months. If you're tall no.
    >>
    >>77591912
it would take like a 1600kcal deficit
so if you eat 1000kcal and go to the gym every single day you might about make it but you won't last two months of that without injuring yourself or giving up

    >Is it possible for me to go from 98kg to 85kg by next year?
Of course it is possible. Ultimately you need 1600 calories less than maintenance for 60 days to lose 28lbs/13kg.
    >I go to the gym 3-6 days a week and strength train.
    >Should i walk or add cardio?
Strength training uses very little calories, almost none. So adding cardio is definitely a good choice.
    >Should i just eat less?
    Yes.
    >Please help
Calculate your Total Daily Energy Expenditure or TDEE with an online calculator, try eating 1000 less than your maintenance calories and then walk at 3mph for 2 hours every day.
It would also be ideal to lift and eat a lot of protein so you dont lose too much muscle mass.
Honestly that seems a bit extreme, I suppose it is doable for some people, but if you try it and its too much then aiming for the end of January makes it a lot more doable, youd just need to reduce daily calories by ~1100 which is a lot more manageable.

You must have something wrong mentally if you are yoyoing up and down such huge ammounts and based on your post you seem to have self esteem issues.
Luckily you already lost the weight before and each time you gain it you dont gain as much, you can definitely lose it again.
You will just need to be stricter with yourself to keep it off.
Humans remain capable of adapting to exercise at all ages so you are never too old to be healthier.
    >>
    >>77591912
it might be possible but it won't be easy.
I did 92,5 to 80 in 2 months. Caloriegoal of 1850 but most days were between 1200 and 1600. I had 4 days where I binged way over my calories but all other days pretty strict. I strive for at least 100g protein and 60g fats.
8k steps a day minimum. Weightlifting 3 times a week. Swimming twice a week for at least 30 mins but most times 1 hour.
Lost no power in the gym (some lifts even went slightly up) so muscle loss should be minimal.

    Day 45/500 complete
She ate very early today. It's not like it breaks anything, it's been 1 hour anytime during the day since the beginning. Technically this can make her fasts about as short as 48 hours or about as long as 94 hours but usually it bell curves such that her fasting length is within about 8 hours plus or minus of 72 hours. Had some trouble falling asleep. She'll try much harder this time.
    Also hopefully this trip works.
    >>77590465
It's going pretty easy for me. 45 days of the same thing will kinda make it a habit
She feels like if you need to be "locked in" for your diet to work then it might not be the right diet. Ideally it should come easy to you after a few weeks. Unless you think you can stay "locked in" for however long it takes to lose the amount of weight you are aiming to lose (realistically impossible if it's for over two months or so) it might be better to do a less stressful diet.

I don't mean to be mr. fasting pseudoscience but just try fasting. I don't have any physiological explanation for it but I think certain mentalities can handle it pretty well. Just don't eat for three days, then eat like 3K calories of healthy food for a day (whatever your chosen pseudoscience tells you is healthy; just count the calories - for me it's chicken, beans, and half and half in my coffee), then fast three days again. If that sends you into a tailspin of nausea and dizzies it's probably not for you, if you realize it didn't bother you much until the afternoon of the day threes you might have a good brain and organ setup for losing a lot of weight by fasting.

It depends on what you're doing. If you're doing accessories, then 3-5 minutes is a waste of time. But if you're doing top sets of squats, then you might need it - I rest for a similar amount of time. But if you feel like you're resting too long, then you probably are. Or more likely, you're just not lifting heavy enough weights. All that matters is that your rest periods are long enough that you're reasonably likely to make the same number of reps in your next set.

    >I dont see much result
If you couldn't lift a weight last week and you can this week, then you're making progress. Not sure what else you're expecting.

Was I being retarded with my diet? Idk but it bummed me out. Today I weighed myself again and I was at 77.9 kg which was a big relief. Both weighed in the evening . Still it's an increase from 2 weeks or so back. I thought I was eating at maintenence but Idk what went wrong. My cope is that it's water weight due to creatine consumption o algo. Day 46/500 of weight loss complete
Got a bunch of Halloween candy. She'll probably be having one every day she eats for a few months
Tomorrow she'll begin walking a lot daily. By now it shouldn't cause too much stress that it causes me to give up. Besides exercise is good for her beyond just causing her to use extra calories.
    >>77593504
Her body begins to break down when it gets above about 280 lbs. Aches and pains and rashes and constantly tired and out of breath. She doesn't know how people get to weights like 400 or 500 her body would completely break down by then, the highest she's ever gotten is like 320 and she began to develop at least two rashes. The thing is for her fasting is the only thing that has ever worked. You just have to remind yourself every day. Also it helps to slowly get yourself into fasting by starting with something like intermittent fasting or OMAD for a few weeks. Another thing is just say you'll fast, even if it's just here on /fit/. If you naturally want to avoid lying you'll continue fasting, though if you're a habitual liar this might not help you. For her she puts a lot of time and energy into these posts so to waste all of that by breaking the fast would be quite bad, and to again spiral up in weight would also be bad. She does this because she has no other good opinions. Plus the fat had been holding her back in many other ways in life for so many years. She just wants to put it all behind her. Also the dozens of suicidal atheists in this thread aren't going to like it but some of my strength comes from God.

you need to be hydrated and have electrolytes if you are going to lift while hungry

I ended up going to the korean fried chicken place and they wouldn't let you mix and match flavors on small orders so I ended up getting way more food than I was expecting (10pc wings when I came in only looking for 5) and because I had to wait there for 45 minutes to get my food (they were packed) they also gave me free cheese balls as an apology so now I have like 4,000 calories sitting in my counter

you don't look the same unless you're 8 feet tall. If you're frustrated because you aren't sexy that's something else

Welp... Guess I'm fasting next week. And won't bake bread for a good while.

Recently did my blood tests. I am pretty obese I'd say, with around 31-32 BMI. My fasting and after breakfast blood sugar looks okay. But my triglycerides seem wayy too high. So, I'm back here after a long time of not exercising and dieting. How are you bros doing?
    >>
    >>77594481
Bros Gemini told me low blood sugar, paired with high BMI and high triglycerides is one of the earliest signs of diabetes. I do have a family history of diabetes but those usually showed up much later in life for them. The fact I am seeing those signs now is worrying.
I saw one of my family members progressively degenerate from diabetes symptons, and she suffered a lot in her last years. I am absolutely offing myself if I get any hint of getting diabetes. Its more joever than I could've fathomed.

You can reverse it with keto or you can keep eating bread and die
