hello /diy/, I am a 22 year old wageslave with no marketable skills living with their parents. one of these parents includes a 75 year old man on the brink of his ultimate demise, who last night wandered into my room, (which has no lock on the handle) naked as the day he was born, pissing all over the carpet of the 8' x 8' guest room. I harbor no ill will for the man, but when I go to replace the doorknob with one that will prevent this from happening in the future I am met with picrel.Reddit and Google give me no useful answers, as all screwless doorknob removal tutorials and threads include some sort of easy release latch along the rim under the brass cover. this doorknob has no such latch, and so im at an impass. I don't know what to do, save using a shoe rack as some sort of dementia zombie barricade for potential incidents in the future but I would really really like a less ghetto solution to my problem. I'm sorry if this isn't your bag, but I've run out of options here. at the very least, help me identify what kind of door mechanism this is so i can find a guide on how to remove it. I cant really afford to have a professional check it out with my wagie salary.thank you for your time.
>>3012699looks like you need a special tool to reach the latch and pull it back ... take the picture to a real hardware store
>>3012699Sometimes the release is not behind the brass cover. Sometimes it is on the bottom side of the knob very close to where the brass over meets the neck of the knob. So, if the brass cover is pulled back you won't see it. Put it all back together and check the bottom of the knob. Also make sure you are on the correct side of the door. Non-locking doorknobs can be installed either way and only one knob is removable.

>>3012704besides these small little holes behind each handle there's no features I can make out. >>3012710would using a pick on just one of those thingies do the trick? there's four of them and all that, so just wondering. I did try poking around at them, but they seem very solidly in place but I of course don't have any too that can apply leverage.in any case here's pictures of the inside of the other side of the know, as well as the pinholes behind the handles.
HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA YOUUUUU MOTHAFUCKAAAA YOUUUUUUTHE RIGHT SIZE ALAN IN THE PINHOLE GOT HER DONE BABYYYY
>>3012718is this a picture of removed knob or op? also how close are you to salt lake?
>>3012719yep I was able to remove the handles after putting a teeny tiny alan in the pinholes behind the handles and loosening them. after that I could pull em right off and get access to the screws holding the bolt and replace it with picrel, this LOVELY handle that has a lock on it to keep my father and his bladder away from my carpet.im in one of the four corners states but not utah
>>3012722>keep my father and his bladder away from my carpetthat's real human compassion. man kept you in his balls for 9 MONTHS!
>>3012710I ran into one of those once. I broke the door ripping it out. Just buy a new door and knob and save yourself the headache
