    Just lost 400 $ edition
    >>
Finally tuned my 7 inch so went to the riverside to do a return to home test among other things. Had shit reception on my homemade directional antenna that I settled up with an omnidirectional in diversity. Long story short I accidentally pressed the disarm button while on the water. Signal was crap seeing pure snow at 700 mts so I stranded up to better control the directional beam. Was in a shift position with 2x batteries in the arm side of my tracksuit I blame that more than anything. All
Ways fly in a comfortable position at least one that you are used too.

This shot is too expensive for my poor fag thirties ass

What do the balance connectors on the battery packs actually do?

I replaced that switch on my radio with a pull-up to unlock switch the first time i accedentally disarmed

its in the name, they balance the cells voltage
    >>
    >>3008840
they keep your house from burning down when you charge batteries.
    >>
    >>3008810
look at the weight of those batteries
why hasn't someone invented a battery ejector that will release used batteries (perhaps like 4 or so at a time) to reduce weight?
for these drones that only fly once
    >>
    >>3009156
    >batteries shitting out of drones to land on the base with their own rotors spacex style bazinga!
    gross
    >>
    >>3009156
Too expensive to throw them into the wilderness.

    >too retarded to understand the batteries are going to be exploded
    >>3009156
i am pretty sure the reason is you have a bunch of individual cells that all discharge simultaneously to generate enough wattage for the motors rather than individual cells being consumed. i think it would also be more expensive so the increase in cost vs range gained on a one way trip just isn't worth it.
    >>
    >>3009156
They’re lipos they explode and catch fire adding to the damage caused

An 8S battery is like $150 for a real good one which is nothing if it fucks some guy up on the battle field

Most soldier spend more than $150 missing the target in battle

Are there any existing projects to add encryption to the HDZero video signal or is that something I'd have to write myself?
    >>
    >>3009855
if its digital there should be a way to do it, heres elrs encrypted https://github.com/sensei-hacker/PrivacyLRS

i dont know anything about code but you should be able to aislop your way into it

thinking of building my own drone, the parts i have currently selected are
    Apex 2 2" frame
    Happymodel X12 AIO
    VCI Spark 1204 8250KV Motors
    Gemfan Hurricane 2023-3 Props.
Planning to fly that configuration with a 550mAh 2S battery
    Thoughts on the parts picked?
    >>
    >>3010368
I have a couple of those temu apex 2” frames they’re nice for $7 each shipped
    >>
    >>3010476
what motors do you use on those and how are they flying?
    >>
    >>3010476
yes you cant beat those prices. BUT, some electronics may cost you the entire thing if they fail.

    >>3008811
doing a recap and after some research the bad reception issues surely were because those cheap chinese vtx that are rated for 2 + W without cooling they actually fry themselves fairly quickly. they are great at first but they are designed for few uses against slavs not really durable rest of the craft was good. and ultimately i lost it by pure user error since i had RTH usable. but the user error was caused by the dying vtx in the end

longtime planefag here since I was a kid, I can dig what the multi guys are doing but I don't understand why nobody under boomer age is into planes. So much more craftsmanship and variety vs. making an X and brute forcing it into the sky, no? Do any of you guys like to build fixed wings?
    >>
    >>3010551
planes are really cool and have so much more loiter time but you need an actual airfield , impossible in any big city. you can use a drone out of a 3mt x 3mt space
    >>
    >>3010551
    >making an X and brute forcing it into the sky,
Sounds pretty fuckin' metal to me, boss. That said, I did buy a plane kit but still haven't gotten it to fly much past nosedive distance. I'd like that air time.
    >>
    >>3010551
    >So much more craftsmanship and variety vs. making an X and brute forcing it into the sky, no?
Yeah, but they're more fragile and even with foam planes it's a bit of gamble throwing and not knowing if it will fly

I guess having experience since young helps, a bladly setup plane will crash immediatly while a quadcopter will easily fly with default settings even with 0 previous experience

How easy is it to damage ESCs during soldering? I was always taught to not let transistors get too hot but there doesn't seem to be a way to avoid it with the way the boards are designed.
    >>
    >>3010710
you'd have to really hold the iron on it for too long. Just use a bigger tip on your soldering iron and tin the pads.
    >>
    >>3010502
Whatever is $1.97 each shipped by aliexpress at the time. I just draw up simple motor mount adapters in fusion and print out of some spare petg strands I have left over as remnants
