finished the new electrical installation, starting the false gypsum ceilings that will hide all the cables n shit, and add insulation

I really gotta finish this shit, I started it almost 5 years ago, past 10 months I did more than 3 years, where did that time go?

One of my favourite shows translates to "Help, my husband is a handyman". You'd fit right in. It features couples in distress where the husband usually demolishes everything and then just does nothing for years or decades. There's one recently where the kitchen was removed in 2006 and he "never got around installing the new one, which is still boxed up". Another where the wife prepares food for the kids on the sink table next to the toilet. Mold, holes in walls, "temporary" outhouses, kids sleeping in the cold etc. I'd love to find more shows like that.

I visited a boomer recently, and while he was a massive fucking fat ass, his pool was clean, his grass mowed, the stone grill he built 20 years ago is still functional, and his home was clean. I'm so accustomed to seeing old people letting everything go to hell that it was constantly surprising.

I blame painkillers. They leach the soul and drive out of people. The boomers that are on them can't even finish text messages.

I demolished the wall between my kitchen and balcony, and made it one square room

Water started getting in last year, I thought it was because when we made the new wall we couldnt reach properly and left a hole or something, so I decided to do the external insulation then (instead of during the summer) and fix the holes

been fucking around and doing some plasters on some places, mainly this little extruded section I have in my living room in the corner, and doing some cleaning cus I am done with cutting the concrete panel for cables n shit
the extruded thing is full of some pipes, probably cabling, so I couldnt just remove it

today we did some of false ceiling construction that will have hidden lighting and will hide the hangers for the curtains, and it will kind of integrate the little extruded parts

it was so fucking retarded, we could barely fit the drill to screw the gypsum "skirt"
and we couldnt open the window or door cus we were working there, so we sweat our ass off

picrel is apparently how you are supposed to do it, drop a skirt, then cut it level to your desired ceiling and put the UD on it, and then you will know where all the CD have to end

    Euros got weird electrical shit

They make fun of us for our plugs and low voltage and then they just yeet appliances and connectors into their ceilings and don't secure their wires to anything its crazy.
    >>
    >>2995552
Are there no junction boxes for the electrical? Just wires popped out of the drywall?
    >>
    >>2998284
Junctions are usually mounted in the wall as thats where the cable channels are run. In apartment made of concrete panel - the loops are run inside a plastic hose that leads to the main.
    >>
    >>2998251
    >>2998283
    >>2998284
    >>2998301

the apartament is manufactured from concrete panels, and is one of the first produced (think mid 60s, later ones had actual cable "pipes/hoses")
so originally the cables ran under the floors, and the outlets were external, as it was cheaper to produce
only the lights had junction boxes

I was not going to do anything with the installation originally, only change the main breaker box, but after looking at how fucked it wqs I decided to redo everything completely
so I thought about it for a bit, came up with:
    >move breaker box to closet to hide it, the panel is too thin to do it like >>2998301 so external
    >extend main supply to it
    >to every room comes a main cable that goes in a junction box that is attached to ceiling, somewhere in the middle of the room, cable is in a plastic tube
    >from junction box pull cables to every outlet
    >outlets are drilled into the concrete panels
    >with a wall chaser cut the panel from outlet to ceiling
    >new lights, new cables
    >new position for light switches, so more drilling and cutting
    >plaster vertical paths to outlets/switches
    >false gypsum ceilings hide the junction box and horizontal cables, bonus straightens ceilings and add isolation
    >make a little gypsum cover to hide the cables going into the breaker box
    shrimple as

thats the best I could come up with considering the circumstances
usually brick has junction boxes above outlets, cable tunnels n shit, but concrete panel blocks are cursed
    >>
    >>2998304
here is the old breaker box, it was in the hole on that pic
    >>
    slept 3 hours last night

    >>
    >>2998251
    for what?
    >>
removed the bathroom door, some of the plaster on the external wall was detached from the panel, so I removed most of it
    >>
    >>2994962
Man, I'm pretty sure that doing something like that to our commie blocks would get us in huge trouble, mainly because the walls the balconies are attached to are load-bearing.
I've simply installed windows and insulation on my loggia, and now it's a plant room.

    >mainly because the walls the balconies are attached to are load-bearing.
idk what the fuck you mean but
    >external walls are VERY rarely load bearing
    >a panel with a large hole for a door and window isnt exactly strong
    >the concrete panel walls do not extend to the balcony
    >the only thing extending out of the "room" is the horizontal "floor" panel
I am pretty sure now its better for the balconies because there is something actually connecting my balcony to my neighbours balcony, instead of a bunch of small L-shaped profiles and glass
    >>2999887
idk, commie materials and 50+years old?

    >idk, commie materials and 50+years old?

assuming this is eastern europe/western asia, you own this apartment? what are the monthly costs associated with owning this place and not living there? this would be unthinkable in the united states; apartments are rental-only and have a constantly rising monthly cost which is very expensive. condominiums are the equivalent of "owned apartments" and are also terribly expensive due to the mortgage payment on the unit, as well as home owners association fees and taxes and such.

you make one critical assumption which is that people care.
I could tell you a long story from my life but to keep it short: One reason that ghettos and areas were poor people live are often trashed, full of graffiti and dirt isn't that they are poor but that no one cares

That opens up two interesting venues:
    >nobody cares therefore I throw my trash everywhere, too
    >nobody cares therefore I form the environment to my wants

And that's just a pet theory: If you have a few of the people in category two that will lead to "gentrification". Because he will see a trashed backyard, clean it up, make it his own and suddenly other people get inspiration and think "I can do that, too"

    Here's the deal with that.
My father was a boomer. They tend to have accrued most wealth during the standard 30s-50s timeframe of their life.
Now, that has compounded incredibly for them, we don't need to care or complain for the sake of this explanation.

My father had everything, koi pond, pool, fucking you name it. I inherited it.
Great, of course. Through life circumstances I moved into that house as it was my childhood house.
When I was a child it didn't have all this shit and it was in disarray quite often.

What happened? THE KIDS FUCKING LEFT.
Now he's a boomer, with money, time, etc to take care of it.
For the last five years I've had it, it looks like total shit. I have three kids under 8.

I live on a boomer block. Every time I have soccer practice, they are mowing or doing some shit to their house.
Every time I'm dropping off kids in the morning, a boomer is quietly weeding their garden.
    It's the kids.

like the plastering on the walls doesnt quite reach the corners towards the ceiling or floor at spots, or it pokes out, so gotta remove/add a little. I started in 2019 and spend one year just gutting the house. 2026 and I am still on it.
Spend the afternoons this week sitting on the roof installing beams for the solar system. Somebody once said to me, you overestimate what you do in a year but underestimate what you can do in 5. Had a down year when I did fuck all. Switched jobs and now it is better. Can ride the bike to work which saves me 4€ every single workday! Used to wrench on cars a lot but now I hate it. Bought a Sandero in 2020 and I will praise this fine Romanian whip until the end of my days. Seriously. 4 Tires 160€ clutch 70€ brakes 50€ Hauls 5m lumber 600kg of screed and pulls a trailer full of firewood. Have I mentioned how much space is in the engine bay?
Keep going. I have finished the main house 90% and still have a full 70m2 flat at 0%. I ll post a picture of the roof tomorrow as moral support
