I told my parents a while ago that I *might* graduate in September 2027 rather than June 2027 due to having to juggle 30 h weeks at an R&D department while finishing my Mechanical Engineering degree. Working in R&D has been very enriching for me, but it also drains a lot of my mental resources, because it is, after all, an intellectual job. And some days I don't have the energy to study after work. My mom keeps telling me that under no circumstances should I postpone my diploma defense until September (she thinks I'll postpone it indefinitely), and my dad told me I've "already wasted my life", which hurt (I started Mechanical Engineering at 25 after dropping out of med school at 22). I'm a top student btw, despite the heavy workload.Today, my parents called me again and when I told them I was studying (yet again), my mom simply let out a sarcastic "uh huh", as if I wasn't applying myself... The workload I'm taking on is genuinely heavy, yet my parents think I'm not doing enough. Then again, neither of them has performed such a feat, so I guess they'll never understand. It's just that I'm doing all this while living away from my hometown. I don't really have much free time these days, I don't go out much, I'm lonely, and I just need some encouragement. Not being told that I'm not good enough...

>>35055871Sorry, I guess I should've clarified that I just need some encouragement and a way to deal with the hurt. And I don't want to feel like I have to justify every life decision I make or feel the need to gain my parents' approval anymore, so some advice on that would be nice too.
>>35055841You pissed in your own mother's ear??
