So I wanted to get into a software engineer career of some type a while back so i took some online courses and learned some basics.

But lately with ai boom I have been thinking of getting into cyber security instead. Is a future cyber security looking possible for someone who knows little? and is online courses even enough to start out?

AI can do a software engineer and a cybersecurity guard's job in a fraction of the time and doesnt need to eat, shit or sleep and works 24/7, and it can do it VERY well, the latest frontier models have been a massive step-up in terms of capability.
>for someone who knows little
with that, at this point in time, it would not be wise to study for a job in a field where every single CEO is banking on AI to continue improving to the point they can replace all but the most senior employees.

So what should I do is there any field I should go into? Is it really jover

I'm really glad that I left software dev behind back when mobileshit started gaining ground - instead I work on the physical stuff that an LLM can't do: actual infrastructure, hardware, repairs, and so on.
The trade jobs that are required by datacenters (builders, electricians, HVAC installers, fiber work, etc) have massive demand, so if you can do some of that, it's a huge plus.
Even with the power of LLMs around, people who can actually work out good prompts and make good use of the information in the output will still be a requirement. It's quite an unstable period so far, though.

it takes a lot of time and effort

I was hoping i could find something remote because I live in the middle of now where in the u.s. and love where I live but want a career in something enjoy. Should I give up on trying anyhting remote?
So learning all the hardware is and option i could do, like even just start at basics with like pc repair and stuff?

true but software dev is really not like security

most important post itt

There's no way to know what the future is made of, but I would say security is one of the less threatened IT job simply because at the very least you need someone to be accountable when shit hits the fan. However, it is one of the hardest skill to get good at, and because of AI, if you're not good, you're pretty much worthless. Are you passionate and ready to invest years of your life into it? Do you know skilled individuals who could teach you? It's the kind of skill that is so complex it's very hard to get good at it on your own.

Well I am willing to put years into it, unfortunately I dont know anyone who can help me. But I was thinking of just interacting with communities thay might have someone like that and maybe find someone to help me out a bit. I just need to really immerse myself in it and I can see doing good.
