I finally got some stability in my life since I graduated in December. I had been looking for jobs with my accounting degree from January to May with no luck, and I was legitimately depressed asf rotting at home. I am now working in food service like I had been before, but it pays a bit better since it's actual cooking and not fast food. I am, for the most part, comfortable where I'm at. I live in my parents' basement and don't pay rent. All my money goes towards paying student loans and saving the rest.My dilemma is I'm not sure if I should try to pay off my loans as soon as possible and have basically no savings or pay the minimum monthly payments and save the rest of my money to pivot to some other direction; maybe pursue my CPA license or even save up to buy a small house, which is pretty much my dream and what I consider to be "making it" in life. I feel like it comes down to should I plan in the long term and rid myself of my debt or take a gamble while I'm still young enough to enjoy life but let my interest accrue, thus giving me a bigger financial burden later on
>>35047225Depends on your interest rate of your loans and how much they are. If you can put the money you're saving in a high yield savings account and just keep it to the side, you should be fine. However. If the savings rate, say for example 3%, is lower than the loans rate, I recommend paying it back asap to remove the financial burden. That is of course if you don't mind loving in your parent's basement for a while longer, and they understand your situation. Then when you either saved enough or got rid of your loans and started saving again, you can start focusing on moving out or aiming for higher education. At least in the meantime you would be building your resume and finances.
