So, I've been playing this game for a while (5+ years), and I usually play it with "friends"(online friends), so it's kinda fun. But a year or two ago, I was in a really bad mental state, and I started buying shit in the game and gambling a lot to get those dopamine hits whenever I won something good. I've spent an amount of money that makes me feel really fucking retarded (I will not be revealing the number to anybody, ever, even under torture. It's just too fucking awful). Now, I'm in a much better place mentally, and I still play the game with "friends" sometimes, but spending money on it has become a habit. What do you think would be the better choice: selling the account (I could probably get around 30% back, but it could take a while or there might be some problem with the transaction, etc., and the sunk-cost fallacy might kick in, causing me to continue this self-destructive behavior) or just deleting the fucking account, forgetting about that shit, accepting that I was really fucking dumb at one point, and letting it go? Have you ever been in a similar situation (not necessarily with games, but with something else)? What did you do, and did it work out well?

If you paid for a movie ticket and it turns out to be boring the best you can do would be to leave.

1. just stop spending money on it. Keep playing if you enjoy but stop spending money

2. Yeah if you want to just stop playing the game then why not try to sell it, get some cash back and move on with your life. Better to sell it rather than delete it, if you need the money

I'd tell you to sell the account but I've been there and it takes a few tries. Going cold turkey now might make you want to start again in a week and make it worse. Make sure you can gradually (or not) replace it by something better for you, so you don't even need to think about the game anymore.

My situation is more like, "you watched the movie for free but then bought a bunch of merch" or something like that.

I just started feeling like playing any type of video game is a waste of time, and I feel like a loser after I'm done. The fact that I also have a habit of buying shit in that game is just the cherry on top. So, the idea is to quit gaming completely (even though it's kinda hard to do after 5+ years of playing somewhat regularly).

I'm kinda on my way to replacing it with something more productive that will also be enjoyable and won't make me feel like I've just wasted my time on retarded shit. The thing about selling my account is that it would probably take some time to find a buyer and I'm afraid the sunk-cost fallacy will kick in and make me keep playing. So I'm really thinking about just deleting it fast and finally putting all that stuff that's still haunting my mind behind me, but it's a radical move, so I'm a little hesitant for now.
