I recently went to another state to look for housing with a family member. I have never done anything like this before. Here's how things went:Before we left - I felt like my family member wanted to do tourist stuff more than look for housing and thought they were not serious. I reminded them many times that this is a working trip, not a vacation. We are booked though and the trip is on.Day 1 - We were tired from travel and my family member wanted to pick up stuff from the store instead of looking around. Nothing was accomplished.Day 2 - I asked if we could go look at housing. The family member wanted to go to an amusement park and the family member won the debate. The real estate agent was not available. Nothing was accomplished. Day 3 - The real estate agent can't meet as planned. We then go out on our own after about 1pm (I was ready to go by 7am). My family member wasn't impressed with the first area we looked at (and we never even saw a single house) and we left it short after we arrived. We then go to another city 90 minutes away. Because I didn't know that we were actually going there, I didn't have time to look up specific houses. The first section of town was too rural but the second of town was more promising. We head back as it is getting late. We then get a call that our dog is not doing well at day care. The workers want to send him to the vet. My family member decides to go home to check on him and end the trip.Where do we even go from here? I feel like all my time, effort and PTO was wasted. The situation with the dog is likely going to happen again. The situation with my family member...seems like it will happen again. But we have to move eventually and I don't think we are much better off than when we started.
>We then go out on our own after about 1pm (I was ready to go by 7am)>I didn't know that we were actually going there, I didn't have time to look up specific housesBoth of you wasted your time
Tell them you don't have any more PTO or that it didnt get approved next time around. If they're buying the house let them deal with it and if you have any say then do more research next time but sounds like you dont so don't bother. You guys should've just used zillow and called it a day
>>35042570Yeah.The first area that got immediately shot down was where I put in a lot of effort research wise. We didn't even get near the housing area there which sucked. That area is a suburb, but we stayed in the city. The city soured them on the suburb.I wasn't sure if we'd even get to the second and third area's we saw. If we had another day, we might have been able to check out those places more, but the dog stopped those plans.I'm not doing this again, that's for sure. But we have to move somewhere...and I don't know where the hell that's going to be.
>>35042570I also think part of the issue was that I wanted to get a better idea of a neighborhood/city, and the family member just wanted to look at and buy a house. I figured if it's a nice neighborhood, more houses are possibilities, but if it's a neighborhood we don't like, the house doesn't matter.
>>35042548Go back on another recon trip but1. make appointments with one or more realtors to be shown various houses that meet your specs.2. Don't bring that family member.
>>35042628I agree with neighborhood >house I'm fine with living in a closet if it's in a gated community
