>be me>24, turning 25 in March>drop off parents health insurance>have a bs and ms in computer science>tech job market is an absolute buzzsaw>currently working warehouse job for $18.50/hr>15k+ steps per shift, 4-5 days a week>tired of being broke and living with parents>decide to give myself until August 17, 2027 to get my shit together>plan is simple>1. Apply to 1,000 jobs, roughly 25-30 applications per week>2. Target SWE, IT, DevOps, sysadmin, technical support, basically anything that gets my foot in the door>3. Try to transfer internally into corporate IT at current employer>4. Eat 1,800-2,000 calories daily (estimated TDEE 2,400-2,800)>5. Lift weights and get lean while continuing warehouse job>6. Save as much money as possible>if I haven't secured gainful employment by August 17, 2027, go back to college for engineering>planning on attending state university>already have a CS degree, so going back for another bachelor's feels like a gamble>but staying in the same position indefinitely isn't an option eitherIs this a reasonable 10-month plan, or am I just wasting time and setting myself up for even more debt? What would you do differently?
>>35038376Maybe it's not the best advice, but let me tell you about my life, maybe you can take something and use it for your good.>Be me>29>Have access to government healthcare, not great, but works>Got a CS degree from a public college>Live an spartan lifestyle>Left the tech market 3 years ago>Took an examination and became a civil servant>Lived for 3 years with my parents>Brought a plot and built a house>Married>First kid will be born in March, Inshallah.
>>35038390Thanks for the advice, anon.>Live an spartan lifestyleWhat do you mean by spartan lifestyle?I've never heard of this before, what do you mean by spartan?>Left the tech market 3 years agoWhy?>Took an examination and became a civil servantWhat does a civil servant do?>MarriedHow did you meet your wife? All I do is work and come home.>First kid will be born in March, Inshallah.Congrats, anon. I'm proud of you.
>>35038376not a bad plan. I think you can do this. You have to be more brutal, though. This is the most diabolical job market for CS ever. Apply to the jobs, yes, all of them, but make sure to keep track of which ones you applied to, and also give them follow up calls. Every single one of them. It would do you well to brush up on all of your skills and learn a few more in your own time as well, so that you have more shit to brag about, in case you get an interview. Do you have a linkedin? That might help a lot. Engineering is cucked too, though. If you're going to go to a different field I'd recommend a trade, maybe. Otherwise you'll just have 2x the debt, 4 years off your life, and still no job.Can you shit like making websites? I'd go all in on this computer stuff if i were you, you've already invested a lot into it. I believe in you anon, keep fighting the good fight.
>>35038402>What do you mean by spartan lifestyle?See what you need, if you need something you buy/do it, if you don't need it, don't buy/do it.Train self control and in about a year you'll be really good at it.
>>35038516Thanks anon, I will try. It'll be tough though.>Engineering is cucked too, thoughWhy?Anyways, I appreciate the advice fren, I'll never give up.
>>35038376Humanities guy here, isn’t engineering close enough to computer science that it suffers from the same problem right now? My friends have had a tough time getting jobs despite engineering degrees from a good university.
>>35038376If you're eating at that kind of deficit, you want to take it easy with the lifting: do cardio instead. Lifting will damage muscles that you aren't taking in enough food to be able to repair.
>>35039138That's true, never thought about it that way?
>>35039098I always thought it was the opposite actually, all the people I know in engineering have jobs and internships.
>>35038376bump
>>35039326Yeah, just remember that generally speaking, losing fat and building muscle are physiologically conflicting processes, so each goal will require a difference approach, allowing you to avoid burning yourself out overtime.
>>35041036Thanks for the advice, fren
