I hate to even admit that I have autism but I struggle deeply with it in a lot of ways. Many small tasks really take a massive amount for me to overcome and I hate to admit it because it makes me feel weak and well... retarded. I tried once to describe to a friend how I feel and all I could muster was "Well, it kind of feels like having to go Super Saiyan to pick up a pencil." which maybe isn't the best way to describe it. Shit like driving on highways or driving in unknown locations cause this sorts of problems for me. I also feel compelled to read all signs when I see them which is very distracting. I try to sort of block it out but it doesn't work very well. If I try my hardest, I can do it but after its all over, I feel like I want to die. The best way I can describe it is that it feels like my mind is seeing all this shit at once. Which sounds ridiculous but its what it feels like.Advice wise, what can I do to maybe manage this better? I can't do things that most adults do like date or go places with friends. Or rather, I can't do it without extreme effort on my part. Basically, nothing is effortless for me. My friend makes driving seem so effortless. Whereas I need to prepare myself in advance. Another friends I have makes doing things like going to concerts or even going on dates seem effortless also. I want things to seem effortless to me. Could I ever reach that point?

It’s all about momentum. If you’re faced with a big, seemingly insurmountable task, break it up into its smallest components. For example, if you want to go to the movies or something, the first step to that is getting ready, and the first step of that would be “walk to my closet and chose a shirt” etc. Everything becomes easier once you get the ball rolling. The same applies for social stuff: it’s easier to talk to strangers if you’re already being social with friends. Practically, using Google Maps etc might help with the driving, if you don’t already use it. Being mad at yourself is probably a waste of energy. Try to cultivate a sense of humor and “I can figure things out” attitude. Godspeed anon
>>35037371You wouldn't have happen to have Adhd as a comorbid disorder would you? I ask because those particular problems you cited I struggle with too and I got checked for both disorders and only got adhd diagnosed. I have to go super Saiyan just to check my fuckin emails lol Anyway if you're just autistic then clearly your executive functions are impaired which autism causes too. The way to handle that as an autist is do NOT (never ever) personalize that shit, don't identify with it, don't wrap your struggle in a sentiment or a myth or an emotional story about yourself or your life. That will cost you and delay your progress immensely!Understand the problem from a logical and mechanical lens. Autists have disrupted and lagged executive functions because of the nervous system + the receiver for those body signals that go to the brain. This overwhelm comes from sensory input, the world around you will feel like a cage the air feels heavy and every thing from sounds, sights, smells, tastes and especially communication will feel HEAVY. This will cause mental fatigue. And if you are autistic this has probably occurred 1,000,000 times to you that you see it as 'reality' you call it normal everyday life for you.Understand it's not your mind it is your body it is your nervous system. Then strategize, before planning any activity make sure you bask like a fucking dragon in a dimly lit, quiet, relaxing lair. You do sensory diets, you prep your nervous system ahead of time and then soothe it after the activity and you will see results
>>35046364>ContAnd once you understand your dilemma from a mechanical and logical perspective it should become clear to you that hating on yourself is RETARDED because the reason why others around you can fly (thrive, socialize) is because you are in the HYPERBOLIC TIME CHAMBER. And they are not! They have an existence where all of that heavy mental and sensory weight isn't on their bodies or their brains. Hard to imagine it right? It's all you have known but for them they know nothing about it. So give yourself credit for handling life on x100 Gs of mental gravity and you have made it this far. Never give up
