I got diagnosed with ADHD (predominantly inattentive) this past winter. Spare the discussion on whether it's real or not or whatever, don't care. All my life I've been called lazy, undisciplined, and impulsive. I've had 7 jobs in 4 years (couldn't save a dime). I am on my 3rd gap year since I graduated high school. I have maintained 0 relationships. Mentally, I feel alright. I'm not depressed, stressed or shamed or anything. Just kind of disappointed that I didn't make more out of my time so far. There is some pressure from family to get it together, but let me tell you it's not motivating especially since I don't like them as people. I try my best to maintain this positive, present-focused philosophy. You know, everything is just an experience, listen to your heart, move your body yada yada. It doesn't actually materialize in me doing what I need to, in order to approach the life I want. When I take vyvanse, I can clearly do the boring and monotonous stuff that is important to "building a life". I can stay organized, start and continue to do something, my impulses are easier to control, and yet I hate to take it at all, I have gone on and off many times. It's not even really the side effects, they are quite mild. Anyone have a similar experience? Anyone know why I'm like this? I don't think I'm one of those golden goose founder types, or a creative savant. I have two decades of clearly having something wrong with me, so it's hard to commit to a 'naturalist' approach.

You're not alone. Vyvanse helps, but it's not a miracle cure. It won't make things easy; it takes things that are impossible and makes them merely difficult, but not easy. This is something you are simply going to have to resign yourself to, I'm afraid.

I disagree. Vyvanse and other medications don't have to be permanent and ideally should never be. You can use them for a few years and by then you will have developed habits, routines, schedules that should stick and then coming off then is doable especially once the individual is older and their ADHD symptoms ease up (which they do after thirties). It doesn't go away entirely but it's enough to depend less on meds.

The reason why it should be a goal for any ADHD to get off meds eventually is because they're not exactly safe long term. Amphetamine based drugs and any derivatives (such as lisdexamfetamine/vyvanse) do a fucking number on the heart. Taking them for over 5 years has been explicitly linked to development of hypertension and even longer term increases the odds of cardiovascular diseases.

Which figures since consuming powerful stimulants makes the heart work overtime. ADHDs might want to avoid the heart attack at 50

My ADHD became markedly worse in my late 20s and has shown no signs of slowing down. You can offset the heartrate stuff with a solid cardio regimen. Also, for many people, a life that lets them actually do the things they want to do and not feel stressed or disorganized all the time could very easily be worth reading a few years on earth rather than living longer and hating themselves the whole time.

Take nootropics instead

Literally me but with SSRIs for anxiety instead. Not even dispressed, just have crazy rumination and anxiety which even with medication only makes it more tolerable.

i'm in a similar boat, i am in my 30s and i am still trying to figure out the right medication and dosage. the one i am currently taking does help with concentration but it's also making me even more hyperactive, which is annoying.

all in all i think that i am doing anything to get my shit together is already a good thing. i am also doing theraphy and trying to take care of my depression as part of the process, and generally be more aware of what i do and how i act, in relation to my diagnosis. i wish i could have done stuff sooner, maybe i could have avoided some pretty bad situations.

this probably presumes stereotypical dieting which is trash awful , I firmly believe ADHDers should be the cleanest diet people possible because of these meds if they wanna see 80 or even 60. Like borderline model / athlete tier regiments

When u start these meds, assume you are on a clock , u are borrowing time from your later self, if u want to get that time back - u have to have everything dialed in and optimized - like get autist about it.

I thought I was like you until I got on buspar and all the sudden my brain just started working. Wasn't even a high I just felt like a normal person. I was able to self motivate, enjoy things again, get habits in place work out. It was actually life changing. But lucky me I get to be the rare group of people who's ears get damaged by it and I had to stop taking it. Now I have horrible tinnitus that potentially will never go away and back to feeling how I used to. Getting to feel normal and being able to self drive was incredible. I'm so fucking angry lol.

>implying i dont have unhealthy habits without medication

I have a feeling ritalin just makes me compulsively masturbate. Sure, I did so before, but not as much.
Even lowering the dose doesn't help much unless I'm supposed to go back to baby 5mg ER dose or something.

Where is the source for this information. Where are you getting your reviews from. I looked up An Shen Ding Zhi Ling, and all I could find was a study on rats.
