I just got approved for Section 8 housing assistance.

I feel like such a loser.

Any advice?
>>
Maybe you should be feeling lucky instead?
>>
Spend your savings on a new drug addiction
>>
Get off in 3-4 years and get on with your life. As long as you're not mooching forever like some parasites
>>

who gives a fuck, dude? It’s shit out there. This may or may not be 100% your fault but it’s undeniable that getting back onto your feet for any reason, whether your own fuckup or not, way more difficult than “usual”. At least you still have a physical address. You’re pretty fucked if you lose that.
Some section 8 is wedged into some pretty nice areas. I know this because I am kinda pissed about some in my own affluent suburb because the city tucked them away and put them in there quietly and now nobody they’re there and won’t believe me that we actually have section 8 kek. Also nobody seems to know why our schools have so many more fights than before but I digress heavily. Is this apartment in a nice area or not, that’s what I’m getting at?
Just because you’re living in a “poor place” doesn’t have to be undignified. Just keep clean in the literal sense and do what you can to get out of there.

Most people would look at this as a win. Are you trying to farm loosh or what? Nobody cares. Your life is easier now. Enjoy the meth or whatever

You work and they tax you into oblivion.

Oh shit... I ain't never seen a nigga with a real ass before! What's up, shorty? You keeping it real?
>>
I'm applying for unemployment. I wake up every day and don't do a whole lot that feels like I'm moving my life forward and definitely feel like a loser as well. Not much to offer in the way of advice, just that you're not alone and it's pretty rough out here for a lot of folks
>>
>>35027476
>unemployment
don't you have to like continuously prove that you're searching for jobs for that shit?
>>
>>35027487
Yeah I haven't gone through the process of submitting it yet but I've been noting down the info I need for the past couple weeks.
>>
>>35027501
sounds like a pain in the ass
>>
>>35026444
Don't feel bad for getting help from the government. This is what they should be doing in the first place instead of bombing innocent people and locking them up.
I'm not American but I've heard Section 8 is hard to get. Consider this a win.
>>
>>35027585
Yeah I guess we'll see how annoying the official process ends up being, but honestly I don't mind a bit of structure that comes with a simple concrete goal (i.e. do some job applications each week, as opposed to the more nebulous "prepare for interviews", or "study every technical skill that there is")
>>
>>35026444
Congrats anon
Take care of yourself <3

>>35026444
Stigma around welfare is bullshit. Look at how much wealthy boomers take from the government despite not even needing it. Do what you have to do, and don't be ashamed of it.
>>
>>35032684
How are they doing that?
>>
>>35033463
Social Security is a kind of welfare, no matter how much people try to cope that it isn't. Same with Medicare.
>>
>>35034560
Is food stamps and medicaid welfare? I asked a homeless shelter case worker this and they said no.
>>
>>35034738
They also said that living in a hotel isn't considered "permanent housing" like an apartment is.
And I'm like... motherfucker, if you stop paying for your apartment, what the fuck do you think is gonna happen?
Sure, you get a month or two to live it up while you wait for the sheriff to come and kick your ass out but...
your ass is still gonna get kicked out just like you would in a hotel if you stopped paying so... LMAO... DUH...
>>
>>35034738
Yes. The reason why the case worker said no is because welfare has become almost like a swear word thanks to decades of propaganda. Of course, that standard has never been applied evenly, only to demographics that conservatards hate. I personally think that society would be better off if we all stopped pretending common forms of welfare are something else.
>>
>>35026534
Seconded. Average american is one bad financial shitshow away from being in your spot, except you have S8 and they don't, op.
Do a few years, pick yourself back up, you're fine.

>approved for Section 8 housing assistance.
What does that mean?
>I feel like such a loser.
>Any advice?
Pray to god in your room and ask him to lead you to the right path
>>
>>35026534
Yeah then you'd be like American basedboys (farmers) with their bailouts
>>
>>35035828
Well good
>>
>>35035828
Key difference is farmers work really fuckin hard they don't do fentanyl in their free apartment
>>
>>35038789
lol, uhhh, it's not exactly free, you still have to have a job and pay 30% of your income from it, and if you don't have a job you gotta pay like $50 a month or you lose your voucher
>>
>>35026444
You don't have to feel like a loser, it is what it is, there are many other people on housing assistance, and also you get to save a lot of money on rent. Also, rent and housing is expensive nowadays anyway. I would also recommend working towards getting a higher income so that you can eventually move out and live in a non-subsidized home, if that's what you desire.

Feeling like a loser means you are not meeting your standards and need to change something, but if you feel that way for too long it can be harmful because it can make you depressed and not progress as well.
>>
>>35039354
Man, I'm depressed as fuck. I wish I did better with my life.
>>
>>35026444
>Any advice?
No. Try not to take it personally. It's a good step to improve things. If you were completely homeless then it would be impossible. At least you have a roof and an address for mail and jobs. If anything, it's better than renting somewhere because at least you don't have a landlord and you have more protection.
>>
Literally thousands of people do this OP, people with fulfilling lives and loving families. That can be you. God bless
>>
>>35038789
No, they do fentanyl in their barn while demanding that everybody kiss their feet.
>>
>>35044218
