The first special was a nice little mini prequel. Fun to see Aoi and Aki starting up the OAC for the first time. Nice wholesome moment with Aki saying she wants to share camping with her best friend <3. Also more goofy Aki shenanigans with the hobocamping. It's neat to look at how they started with ZERO anything and now they've got tents, sleeping bags, a friggen cast iron skillet, a BOWL, a little table, etc. etc. They tend to build their gear slowly over the course of the show which feels like natural progress. Excited to see what new kind of gear they'll get in future seasons!

I honestly kinda hate this OVA. Non-canon OVAs that just go way out of bounds are the bane of anime. I don't mind a beach episode. It's often a fun time. But let's not do a crazy and do a stranded-on-a-deserted-island gimmick with characters skydiving out of a private plane. This is the sort of thing that should be a brief flight of fancy as a quick gag, not the core premise of an OVA.
Even then, is it terrible? Not really. I am being dramatic. I just wish they went island camping for real instead.

If there's garbage laying about everywhere that's washed up onto the beach, and you're not being hit by storms constantly, or murdered by wildlife, and there's a relatively protected cove where you won't get battered by waves and crack your skull on some rocks or a riptide to suck you down and make you drown, and you know how to find and identify taro root, there are worse places to be stranded.I would hope to have a good knife I can sturdily affix to a stick, some rope to do so, a machete for chopping stuff, and hopefully find a clear glass bottle that's not too foggy, which can be used as lens for starting a fire or storing clean water in. Any random bits of plastic crap or metal or netting I might be able to find would be cool too. Ideally there'd be good ways to just trap fish at low tide, if the terrain allows.I think I'd be able to give it a good try. If I didn't die of thirst in the first few days, or get really sick and get all my strength sapped away, I'd probably be alright long enough to signal for help and get rescued. I would try to start a big smoky fire, and get some contrasting rocks in a clear pattern on the beach. If I had something that was really reflective to try and shine at planes that'd be ideal.

However it is weird timeline wise because it obviously takes place sometime around when s4 or 5 would be, considering rin's bun has been murdered... also I feel like it was a bit of a strange decision to introduce Shimapapa for the first time in a special. Feels like you should be introducing actual characters in the proper show, but I guess there was no other way to introduce the loaner trike

Fallkniven A1 is my go-to for heavy camp tasks like splitting wood. I use an orange-handled Spyderco folder as a sort of utility knife that's hard to leave behind or misplace around camp because of the bright handle. Cutting cordage and whatnot, opening up camp food pouches. And then I have a sweet Knives of Alaska fixed handle too, I forget exactly which one. That's kind of my hunting knife, I try to keep that on me regardless when I'm in the woods in case I lose all my other gear somehow. I generally have a multitool as well. And I'm one of those weirdos that sometimes brings an actual bow saw with me into the woods on camping trips. It folds up nicely. It's pretty neat.My EDC is usually my carbon fiber handle Benchmade reverse tanto. It's super lightweight, but very strong for a folder.In the kitchen I have a couple excellent knvies, but I think my favorite is the somewhat famous Victorinox 7" Santoku which used to be dirt cheap before it got rave reviews by some big cooking publications and then everyone wanted to buy it. It's excellent and has held up to many years with minimal maintenance, great nonslip grip.I got various other knives that I just thought were neat, or were "tactical" or felt right to collect because of their legacy.

I've jumped out of planes before. and done various "trust falls/trust jumps" fearlessly before. But I actually do have a very healthy respect for heights and I wouldn't ever be a climber up that high to begin with. But if you did somehow get me up there, sure, no problem, I'll trust the equipment. I have no trust in authority but I do trust engineering.
