Oomori didn't even reach sekitori yet, but it's been big boom around him

I personally also like Fujiryouga, Kazuma, Gyotoku, Ryusho, Kaki.
    >>
    >>262637
People only like Omori because he's handsome and jacked. At his current physique he'll make sekitori but expect him to bounce off Makuuchi. Asahifuji will beat him every time.

I wanna see how far Fujiryoga can go. He didn't climb as fast as Onosato but he wasn't far off at least. FYI this was only his 8th professional basho, and if he hadn't stumbled in his Makuuchi debut there'd be much more buzz about him.

Hakuho spent 8 years at yokozuna before his first injury, so yes it is possible. His ego taking over later on doesn't change that he spent more time completely uninjured than all but 5 yokozuna have spent at yokozuna period. The biggest loss from his ego going out of control is now he's unable to properly teach other wrestlers how he remained uninjured at such a high level.

    >>262837
I'd assume so, but I'm also assuming it could be a monetary problem as well.
    >>
    >>262834
Key word "formal". You cant apply for elderstock if you dont meet the requirements. Enho only became eligible when the banzuke for this basho was announced (april 27), he could not make any "formal" requests or applications regarding the stable before this.
Knowing jap culture and the pettiness of JSA old farts the applicaction could have been 100 pages long.

Also he clearly had no idea JSA would destroy the stable right after the tournament (this was intentional to avoid bad headlines before the basho). And to be fair this decision was probably made not to fuck over Enho, but to completely destroy any hopes of a Miyagino stable reborn and make it an elder name only.
    >>
    >>262838
I think enho is popular enough that he'd get plenty oif support to set up.
    >>
    >>262839
You can cope about le evil jap boomers all you want, but the reality is that Enho doesn't want to retire. He's gone on record saying he wants to make it back to makuuchi and has never mentioned wanting to be a stablemaster.

Enho could literally land on his neck next basho and its over. Not discussing Miyagino topic publicly is smart due to how sensitive and controversial it is. The key point is that no date or timeframe for Miyagino stable termination was given.

Enjoying Koga's patheticness is where the soul is out. If you're gonna have 600 wrestlers competing to see who can be at the top someone is going to end up being at the bottom. Koga plays his part. You don't have to hate him to laugh at him. He is the Washington Wizards of sumo, he serves his purpose and does so with aplomb.

Onosato thinks he's good to go for July
Hoshoryu's injury was just a bad muscle pull so he'll be fine
    Dan is fine
Zak will lose rank either way
Papa will show up and trudge on as usual

Still can't believe the YDC said they're willing to consider Kirishitma's result a yusho equivalent.
    >>
God I can't wait for Onosato to be fighting fit again. Been too long since we saw the complete dominance he's capable of.

Hoshoryu's only claim to fame as a Yokozuna before the 46 time winner Asahifuji began his reign is he got to wipe his taint on Onosato's rope.

yeah, but they're fascinatingly ugly, the kind you want to see jiggle and wobble and slam into each other to see if they get any uglier. These ham beasts going topless would be a great spectacle, and also the only reason to watch since they all suck at this sport.
    >>
The July tourney will be my 2nd basho and ive had fun watching so far. Been poking around older Sumo before i started watching and im curious which modern Yokozuna were the good guys and bad guys? Also somebody needs to find a better pic for Musashimaru on Wiki.

Personally I don't think any sumo wrestler is a really bad guy. Except Hokuseiho. Fuck that guy.

Among the yokozuna, only Futahaguro is a true screw-up. The others that could reasonably described as having a "bad" reputation are Asashoryu and depending on where you stand- Takanohana and Hakuho.

Asashoryu and Hakuho because they could arguably be said to have lacked hinkaku, for being mongolian and for using techniques said to be "beneath" a yokozuna. Personally I think nothing is more honorable than victory and more wrestlers ought to fight how they fought.

Takanohana is controversial because he tried to revolutionize the sumo association by running for chairman, which although they vote on it, is typically settled via prior negotiation between factions. Before Takanohana, sumo stables could be independent of a faction, but because of his 'unauthorized' participation in the election for chairman, all stables have since been required to be part of a larger faction, to ensure that the oyakata don't get funny ideas again. This whole thing could be said to be good or bad depending on your perspective. It was a victory for the traditional way the association runs things.

Yes. His elbow at the tachiai and his last four or five years in general were a disgrace to the sport, not just his rank. Thankfully he's off doing his own tranny clown tournaments now and not part of the association.
