Anonymous 12/24/25(Wed)19:18:39 No. 251556 >>251355 >>251410 Here are some thjngsings you can do to ease the pain and even fix it. First, if your pain gets better during training and worse after a while or the next day this means you probably have a weak core and hips, since it gets better during training thats's because your muscles get activated during training, then what you need to do is to do isometric for your core and hips. If on the contrary your pain gets worsensuri during training then you can look into the following tests. -sit straight in a chair and pull yourself down, if this causes pain then you likely have a pinched nerve, then you need to do core exercises. Do the same test but with a round back, if this causes pain your spinal erectors are weak and need lower back strength and bracing your core properly. -put your leg in a figure 4 and if your painful leg has more mobility than your non painful side or just have more mobility even with no pain, then you likely have long piriform syndrome and need to strengthen that leg and if its the opposite result you need to stretch that leg more. Since you mentioned uchi mata im assuming this mean there's pain during uchi mata, first fix your form, you're probably trying to lift them with your leg, get your hips in lower and think of doing a seoi nage while lifting your leg, there shouldn't be any effort in your lifting leg. Now if your pain is on the side of your lifting leg and that leg has more mobility than the other, then strengthen those hamstrings and hips if you have less mobility theb stretch that leg. You will likely need to do several of these results. So do core isometrics, lower back strength, hip exercises and try to match the mobility and strength of both hamstrings. This one is the most unlikely but if you feel better after resting a few days then do the exercises but with very light weights and low volume, over time increase the weight and volume and abstain from judo for a while, this can be a couple week to a couple months.>>

Knowing the greater scape of (1) is required, knowing the lesser scape of (3) is helpful, (2) is required. Funny enough (4) isn't that big of something many older Sensis care about because they want you to learn the art of Judo and not so much the sport. You have to teach Judo to become a black belt, you don't have to go to Internationals, but you do need to know the difference between Hiza Guruma and Sasae. Also, many Sensis promote based off of observation and subjectivity. If you're not doing good, have an attitude, or don't wish to remember shit, it will only hinder your career in Judo.>>

Some USA Judo schools require testing as a primary. Other schools like competition schools have a heavier focus on your competition success and then there are schools that focus more on the philosphical aspects of judo and just want to spread judo around. If you dont believe me, to compete at an early kyu rank before brown and you'll meet white belts with like 17 wins multiple golds that are stuck at white belt for some ungodly reason. To clarify this isn't exclusive to judo, bjj guys do it too but bjj tends to focus on scrambles and the bottom guard, scrambles need space for them to move wich means there's less weight on the opponent, since most bjj guys prefer the bottom guard, their top control isn't as effective, thus their defense against it isn't that good either which is why wrestlers tend to beat bjj guys often. Is not that bjj can't do these things but usually they will focus on scrambles and bottom guard which are both weak against good top pressure and since they aren't that good at top control weight shifting makes escaping or defending from the bottom very easy.>>

Anonymous 02/08/26(Sun)08:43:04 No. 255253 >>254957 On the topic of knives and throwing why doesn’t anyone recommend throws for knife defense? People recommend a two-on-one grip on the knife arm all the time, usually one hand near the wrist the other near the elbow or bicep meaning the knife attacker has a bit of wiggle room to cut you, and then they don’t really do anything with this grip, maybe just go to the ground for an armbar. If you have two hands on the knife arm, why on Earth shouldn’t you go for a shoulder throw? Knife attacks don’t usually happen on gymnasium mats, they usually happen on concrete and asphalt. Slamming your foe on the ground could easily maim them. If you use the reverse elbow position for the shoulder throw you could even dislocate their arm without having to wrestle on the ground. Why doesn’t anybody recommend this?>>

Anonymous 02/09/26(Mon)06:16:48 No. 255323 >>255317 Judo was developed in the modern era (late 19th/early 20th century) and had a standardized curriculum fairly early on. Most judo technique names are literal descriptions of the moves, ex. ippon seoi nage = one arm shoulder throw/one arm over the back throw. Sumo is much older with a long and often convoluted history. Sumo techniques, or kimarite, had no standardization with there being 48 techniques on paper, but hundreds of different kimarite names being used in practice. It wasn't until the 1950s when the list of kimarite was officially formalized. Some kimarite are pretty close in name to the modern judo equivalent--ippon seoi nage in judo = ipponzeoi in sumo (webm related). However, many kimarite have stylized metaphorical names, similar to naming patterns used in other old school Japanese martial arts like classic jiujitsu. For example, sumo has a kimarite called "amiuchi" (fisherman's throw), because it looks like the motion a fisherman makes when throwing an net behind him.>>

Anonymous 04/09/26(Thu)16:49:53 No. 259422 >>259407 Well many white belts have bad balance and often leave themselves open to an easy counter while trying to throw. If you have a throw that you're decent at and has worked in randori, stick to that and don't go for something new that you have little experience with. And don't let your opponent catch your lapel and sleeve like it's nothing, a lot of white belts have little idea of what to do in gripfighting. I would say attack first if you're not good at defensive work and countering, cause some guys will outgrip you until you're completely defenseless and their chances of successfully throwing you then become like 90%>>

So aikido itself is very loosey-goosey, uses a lot of impractical crap like wrist-locks, and does not stress-test at all, training partners are fully compliant.
