During this time, the Church has seen it fit to draw upon the treasury of merit, using the power of the keys that Christ has granted to her, and apply its benefits to the souls in purgatory, who she prays for in each Mass, to release them from their temporal punishments and into the gates of heaven and the presence of Christ in the beatific vision. This is an extraordinary time in the Church, when the prayers of the saints can make atonement for those in purgatory. >Therefore, he had this expiatory sacrifice offered for the dead so that they might be delivered from their sin.>2 Maccabees 12:46

Early advancements in astronomy, architecture, art, maths etc were inspired by religion. Same reason we can summon orbs. They confirm our beliefs and inspire us to build on them. They don’t care your particular religion, but prefer a monotheistic belief.
