In the Gospel of Mark in chapter 1 at Jesus' baptism, the Heavens open (literally ripped apart) and the holy spirit descends like a dove on Jesus. Later in Mark chapter 15 at the crucifixion of Jesus the veil of the temple is torn the direct access to God once restricted behind the temple veil is now opened to all humanity. The actual word used in both instances and are only used in just these two scenes in mark is the greek word schizomenous, coming from the verb schízein which means to split. This is the exact same word where we get the origin for the term schizophrenia.
