I am trying to better understand the connection between the procession of the zodiac as the root of pantheonic archetypes and the cult of Mithra. From what I understand, both Mithraism and cult of Dionysus sublimated into what is know known as Christianity, and I feel the Dionysus side makes sense to me so far, but I need help piecing together the former. If the image of Mithraism is often depicted slaying the bull or calf, I have come to understand the cult itself is in reverrence to the principalites of humanity exiting Taurus and entering Aries. Am I way off on this so far? Is this cult not a continuation of humanity in Aries even during the transition to Pices?
>Mithras presides over the changing of the seasons and the movement of the heavens themselves. In the ancient cult Mithras was represented by the constellation Persus, who changes the position of the celestial sphere by 'slaying' the constellation Taurus (the Bull). At the spring equinox Mithras moves the earth back into Aries, raising lots of energy and power. At the autumn equinox this position is reversed bringing Scorpio back into Libra and balancing sexual energies. https://www.whitedragon.org.uk/articles/mithras.htm
>David Ulansey, in his Origins of the Mithraic Mysteries, has convincingly proposed that this group of philosophers responded to the discovery of the precession of equinoxes by postulating that a previously unknown god was responsible for the gradual movement of Earth’s axis (the stars and planets, which were now relegated to positions of lesser importance, had earlier been identified by the Stoics as gods who controlled human fate). This new god, who was clearly more powerful than all the other gods in the heavens because he controlled the very axis of the universe, was linked by these Stoics with the chief local deity, Sandan, who had earlier been identified with the Greek hero Perseus, as well as with the Persian Mithra (hence the name Mithras).>The link between Sandan/Mithras and Perseus is an important key to unlocking the meaning of the tauroctony. In his constellation, Perseus is pictured with an upheld knife and is located immediately above the constellation Taurus. It is thus not difficult to imagine the scene in the star map as leading to the scene in the tauroctony, in which the knife is plunged into the bull. What, however, is the significance of this sacrifice?https://encyclopedia2.thefreedictionary.com/Mithraism+and+Astrology

>>43123837It's not dead lol there's just never 1 single answer or explanation for anything in the occult so we can only speculate. The astrological interpretation of any symbol plays a big part in analysis but we don't exactly have access to every proper ancient or hidden cult zodiac so who's to say any analysis like Ulansey's is accurate to begin with? Nor do we have real proof the ancients or their mystery cults recognized the exact same zodiac or movements as we're given now. The ancient Persians had a completely different scene in the sky dominated by a massive lion. Mithras slaying the bull could be Aries slaying Taurus, but it could also be the Sun slaying the bull Saturn or Attis/Bacchus slaying his own father Zeus. As I understand it in the Zoroastrian origins of Mitra he is one of the celestial angels (the stars) but I'm not sure if he's identified as clearly as some others in the texts, maybe somewhere they explain his zodiacal origins?

The age of Aries was preceded by the age of Taurus – 4,700-2,500BC. And indeed, we see many allusions in the myth to this age. The most obvious is the episode where Jason needs to plow the earth with the fiery bull, before reaching to the golden fleece. But even before reaching Colchis, they face the obstacle of Bosphorus – the bull’s crossing. As he is getting closer to the golden fleece, he needs to put asleep Ladon, the sleepless dragon. Ladon is identified as the constellation Draco even in Hyginus’s “Astronomy”. This is an obvious allusion to the “Axis Mundi” – the very force that makes the skies move. It needs to be symbolically stopped, for a new age to take a turn. But before Jason stops the very source of the movement, he needs to face all of the other zodiac signs. At least this is what I believe to be the meaning of the episode of “sowing the dragon teeth”.The story goes like this: After plowing the field with a fiery bull, he sowed the teeth of a dragon. From these teeth, an army of skeletons rose from the ground. He knew that they will react to movement, so he threw a rock in between them, and the skeletons killed each other. What could be a hidden meaning behind this story? I think I might have an idea.Even today, in Armenia, there are ancient megaliths known under the names of “vishap stones” “vishapakar” and… “dragon stones”. It does not take much imagination to see how these stones might have looked like “dragon teeth” to the ancients. Mind you, this region is very close to Colchis, where Jason’s sowing is taking place.https://cogniarchae.com/2018/03/06/jason-argonauts-age-of-aries/
>>43125866In the really remote of times, these stones have probably been used as celestial markers. And so, Jason throws a rock in between them. This rock might represent the Moon. This would mean that their original purpose has still not been forgotten by the authors of the epic, even though in the imagination of the common people they have already become the “dragon teeth”.To further support this theory I will add that many of the dragon stones have an image of a bull engraved on them. This means that they are really ancient and belong to the previous age. In that sense, the skeletons can also be seen as the ancestors who are upset that their religious system is being overthrown?Funny enough, Wikipedia article on the golden fleece, offers 18 different interpretations of this symbol, of which not even one is related to the stars. (?)We have determined that Argonautica may indeed be a collection of star lore related to the age of Aries. If this is really the case, it was written down only during the last centuries of this age, but it could have been relevant for some two millennia before the 8th century BC (!)Another conclusion also imposes itself. Since it is the position of the Sun on the spring equinox that determines the world age – Jason must be the Sun, while his 49 companions are the constellations. In this case, the etymology of the name Jason is really interesting. Wiktionary states:>From the Ancient Greek Ἰάσων (Iásōn), from ἰάομαι (iáomai, “I heal”). The Jason mentioned in the New Testament (Acts 17:5-9, Romans 16:21) is probably a Greek rendering of Joshua. And as we know, Joshua is also the name of Jesus… whose symbol will be the Pisces, the following age. Also, Euphemus, one of the Argonauts, possessed a special gift of walking on water…

>>43119999This is a horrible depiction of the tauroctony. It's all fucking wrong.>>43120016This guy is a fucking hack. Don't trust any of this bullshit at all. If you want to understand Mithras, look at the Orphic mysteries and realize that this is the cthonic opposition to the celestial escapism cults that all those dipshits who never came back used. Where others flee to the sky, we carry what we kill and we hold the full count against the forgetting. They are children of earth starry heaven. I am a child of stone and Tartarean fire. These are not the same!
>>43131032Any other general recomendations? Any decent sources or authors who deal with alchemical astrology? Also, what are your thoughts on Saturn being demonized when it is the ruling planet of the new age?
>>43131419>cthonic opposition to the celestial escapism cultsHow would this be the case if the origin of the archetypes depicted in the image are aspects of the zodiac themselves? And Taurus is being defeated by Aries, so isn't that fire over earth? Or maybe that's what you mean when you mention Tartarean fire, even though that's just a fit-all for the mid east region.
>>43123889>we don't exactly have access to every proper ancient or hidden cult zodiac so who's to say any analysis like Ulansey's is accurate to begin with?>Nor do we have real proof the ancients or their mystery cults recognized the exact same zodiac or movements as we're given now.All I can do is try to piece together the cultural interpretation of the zodiac they would have used and try to piece together how it connects to the motifs and artyetypes used in their art and pantheonism. >the Sun slaying the bull Saturn True, I agree it is hard to decifer when saturn can be both bull or goat.
>>43124493In that image, Aries would be slaying the calf, so how to you make sense of your statement when who you say is the devil is slaying the devil? This is why I refrain from simply refering to aspects/archetypes as a title, like lord or advesary, rather than their planetary or zodiac namesake.
>>43125866>>43125871Very interesting additions. I always enjoed the story of the Golden Fleece but I am certainly seeing it with new eyes now that you brought up the larger allegory. I will have to dive deeper into Ladon being identified as Draco. This is very convincing, but I'll have to come to my own conclusions. >In this case, the etymology of the name Jason is really interesting. Connections like these really cement in me that the astrological procession act as the laylines for narrative in most, if not all cultures. Thank you!

>>43132437They literally descend into a cave. A Mithraeum is a cave.>Taurus being defeatedNo one is being defeated. You simply do not understand sacrifice. The bull is NOT the enemy of Mithras. You raised the bull, you CARRIED THE BULL ON YOUR SHOULDERS, and you sacrifice the bull to bring forth the abundance that is within his hide. THEN, you feast together on the very hide of the bull that was sacrificed. There is no malice, there is no hatred. Mithras averts his gaze (in almost all reliefs) out of RESPECT for the dignity of the bull that he sacrifices. It is done with forward facing grief for what is given, facing towards what comes from that sacrifice.
>>43136260Inseresting perspective on the concept of sacrifice. Thanks.
>>43132420>Any other general recomendations? Any decent sources or authors who deal with alchemical astrology?Yes. Fulcanelli while not directly about astrology was like a segway into other writers, since i started going by themes such as the black madonnas. Gerard de sede is a good follow up on fulcanelli. His books about the goths and the cathars contain certain speculations about the astrology of old and how we used to build settlements or certain buildings aligned with astrology. Such as the great pyramid. Cyril fagan talks about how the ancient egyptians used sidereal astrology and plenty of authors have written about the pyramids and astrology but the one ive read is a mexican writer by the name rodolfo benavides, wrote many famous books on that and other subjectsAbout the saturn thing well, i dont really believe the "age of" thing. Yes, i know whole thread is basically about it but i dont think the ancients or traditions interpreted it the way modern shitposters rave about. Which is the same thing with saturn. All this demonization of it is just reductio ad nauseam. Yes, saturn is "the great malefic" but really, all the posts and narratives we see nowadays are mostly an extension of the anti jew sentiment. Those people should study astrology beyond their already limited knowledge of a single culture. Mars is also a malephic planet but we dont see it demonized as much even though its the god of war. Probably because the anti saturn guise are muh epic roman larpers
>>43140528Thanks anon, you provided a lot of food for thought. As for the latter point you make, I tend to agree as well. The lack of discusion around the aspects Mars or Mercury control in comparison to Saturn has always left me with pause.
