I've heard that there are allegedly giant spiders in the Congo, as well as dinosaurs
Is there anything else out there?
Stories you've heard about this stuff or in the unlikely event of the spiders experienced yourself?
    >>

White ape men. Nearly human, but not quite.
    I've heard of them. Cannibals.
I also heard of a lost tribe of humans that are more evolved than any current humans.
    >>
    >>43102356
where are they said to be?
    >>
I was listening to a Coast to Coast video years back where a guy was talking about these invisible beings in Indonesia. He said he was there to help build radio towers or something in some of the more rural villages and while he was out there something he couldn't see bit him on the leg, which caused him to become violently ill. The villagers told him about these beings and how they didn't like people wearing any colors other than black and white, so the locals typically only wore those colors and made sure most of their body was covered. I think they linked this with the Missing 411 info that one of the common details about some of those cases was the brightly colored clothing people wore while hiking/hunting. Have no idea what episode it was.

In the late 90s there was a rumor, I don't know where it came from and I never found any track of it later on the internet but back then different people told me about it, that during renovation works in a castle that belonged to the queen of England workers had found a 1 meter giant spider stored there. Supposedly it was a specimen captured in Congo and brought back to England, but we can only wonder why it was stored there instead of being in a museum or a lab, and what happened to it after they found it.
Anyway, this is one of the cryptids I think are the most believable. And there were reports of these spiders by explorers in past centuries, people thought they just exaggerated.
Experts claim that spiders can't grow that big though because of their organs.
    >>
    >>43102780
If not a joke, how was it? I read that most of them are blind but they can detect movements incredibly precisely and taste stuff remotely, they must perceive their environment very differently from us.
    >>
    >>43104489
there's also the fact that multiple local tribes of borderline retarded africans have been able to describe in detail the life cycles of the spiders as well as the best way to avoid them
    >>
    >>43102924

people say that but it could be that there's more oxygen in the Congo because of all the trees so they might get bigger
throw in years of uninterrupted evolution and they could also overcome the physics of their legs no longer supporting their weight
that being said i don't think "giant" means dog or cat sized or whatever
just a lot bigger than other spiders and not officially discovered yet because the Congo is hard to explore and actively tries to kill everyone who enters
    >>
    >>43105399

There's fossils of Meganeura, a dragonfly with a foot-long wingspan, and Arthropleura, an 8 foot long millipede, from the Carboniferous period 300 million years ago. And giant sea scorpions from the Devonian period 400 million years ago. I don't think they've found a giant spider fossil yet. Everything they have found turned out to be a sea scorpion that superficially looks like a spider because they're both arachnids.

The biggest spider today is the goliath bird eater, which has a foot-wide legspan. That's probably the limit for spider size, even if you go back 300 million years when there was more oxygen in the atmosphere. Nobody's found a dog-sized or Human-sized spider fossil yet.
    >>
    >>43105399
they have 'book lungs' that seem to have a size restriction (they work by allowing air to diffuse through an internal tissue with a large surface area, but no mechanical breathing), it's just that there is no reason to think it's impossible to make a bigger book lung

spiders use pneumatic muscles, it might also put an upper limit on their size based on the kind of pressures needed to make them move, but again it could just evolve to be bigger in some way we couldn't imagine or predict
    >>
    >>43107850
This reminds me that I read an article a few years ago saying that a new slightly bigger spider had just been found in caves in China, 36cm legspan against 34-35cm for the goliath, but it just has very long legs, its body is not big, so the goliath is still considered the biggest one. Still, this means that new giant species can still be found.

Also it may not be exactly spiders but something else than can grow larger. There are these other arachnids, I don't remember their name, they are the cousins of spiders and scorpions but they are even uglier, yellowish with a long body, and they can grow huge. There were photographs of soldiers in Afghanistan with these and they were wrongly reported as proofs of giant spiders back then on paranormal forums. Maybe there are even bigger ones in Congo and people there call them spiders.
    >>
    >>43108770
I think you're talking about Solifugae, the camel spiders. They're freaky little bastards. I think they mostly live in deserts, so I don't know if rainforest areas like the Congo would get them. They're 12-15 centimeters long, but I could definitely believe there's bigger specimens out there nobody's found yet.
    >>
    >>43108770
The largest arachnid is the Japanese Spider Crab. The old bulls have been able to grow about the size of an adult human.
    >>
    >>43108307
    >there is no reason to think it's impossible to make a bigger book lung
    Physics.
It isnt the book lungs so much as the propagation of oxygen to the rest of the body. Spiders use a passive system of tubes, no active airflow. the tubes let oxygen diffuse through the body, so a body too large means the oxygen wont diffuse far enough.
Along with that, having an exoskeleton means molting to grow significant size, which means a body too heavy would crush itself while it is soft and waiting for its new shell to harden.
To get much bigger, you would need completely different lungs, and a different exoskeleton structure.
Eventually, you just redesign the coconut crab, which itself isnt getting much bigger than a cat.

How come we don't see them? Megalodons are too big to eat anything besides whales, but whale populations aren't mysteriously shrinking from being eaten. Megalodons were coastal sharks when they were young too, so you'd probably be able to encounter one just by going swimming or snorkeling at the beach.

I try to home the bugs outside. Had a spider minding its business until I turned on the light. It saw me. Froze. I left, came back. It completely changed its trajectory. It saw me. Froze again. Eventually it found a piece of shade in the lit room under a shelf. It tried to get into the crevice of the shelf and the wall but couldn't.
It appeared it knew it was at serious risk of dying and really did not want to die.
It compressed itself, wedged in the under-shelf corner as much as it could.
I turned the light off. Scrolled /x/. Turned the light on some time later. The small spider was still hiding in the corner it found - not making a web, not making a move.
I went to rehome it in the morning and it was gone. Inside the house is not a great spot for it, only spiders really find their way in somehow. I hope it found its way outside.
Maybe I'm projecting, but it really seemed like it knew it was at risk of death and consciously knew it was in the wrong place at the wrong time and tried to avoid its early demise.
Bugs can fear too. Everything is trying to survive.
Wasps can fuck off. But the non swarming non-aggressive ones who just find themselves in our world, like a fly trying to fly outside but stuck at a screen... sometimes flies can be deliberate assholes, but some are just caught in our world and indeed don't want to be part of it. I try to help those guys.

    https://www.burkemuseum.org/collections-and-research/biology/arachnology-and-entomology/spider-myths/myth-spiders-come-indoors
    >Myth: Spiders come into houses in the fall to get out of the cold.
    >Fact: This seemingly simple idea conceals many false assumptions. In reality, house spiders are usually not the same species as the yard or garden spiders outside the house.
    >House spiders belong to a small number of species specially adapted for indoor conditions (constant climate, poor food supply, very poor water supply). Some house spider species have been living indoors at least since the days of the Roman Empire, and are seldom to be found outside, even in their native countries (usually Europe). Many of these species now live in houses worldwide, and most have been carried by commerce to more than one continent. Few are adapted to North American outdoor environments.
    https://www.burkemuseum.org/collections-and-research/biology/arachnology-and-entomology/spider-myths/myth-house-spiders-belong
    >Myth: "I'm very kind to spiders; when I find one in the house, I put it back outside instead of killing it."
    >Fact: You can't put something "back" outside that was never outside in the first place. Although some house spider species can survive outdoors, most don't do well there, and some (which are native to other climates) will perish rather quickly when removed from the protective indoor habitat. You're not doing them a favor.

It's not a jumpscare. Not sure why it's a gif but worth the read, as someone who went through those woods once 10 years ago and kept seeing massive spiderwebs way up in the branches.

You are more courageous than I. You can call me a faggot but I could not go there after reading this.

Tbf I didn't know until someone posted that image a few months ago, and then I thought back and a lot of my memory of the place made sense.

I shit you not, there was a bridge in this massive clearing in the woods, and parallel to the bridge about 15' higher, there was just a big web suspended in the middle. Clearing was easily 50', main web diameter maybe 10', right in the middle like a painting you'd center on a wall. We just stopped and were like "...how big is the thing that made that, how tf could a spider bridge this gap."
I swear I saw a leg too. Just an inch sticking out from behind a small tree trunk. Kept turning around to stare at it because I KNEW it looked like a spider leg, but was like "haha, no way, it's way too big. That must be a vine or something." Spindly digit was about .5" wide, so you can assume how big the rest of the spider was. If I had to guess, leg span somewhere around 15-18". Fucker was hunting us, after I finally stopped watching it (we were taking a break), it sprayed someone in our group. And we all told him he was nuts, it must have been some rain from the canopy, it was his own sweat, etc. Our local buddies were calmly like "let's not leave buddy at the back of the group okay?" I thought I was crazy because after buddy got sprayed, the "vine" had shifted position, even though no one was near enough to the tree to have moved it.

After finding that image, I asked everyone about the trip, and was told that the local friend actually grew up in that area. They couldn't let the dogs or young kids out alone at night because the spiders would try to drag them off.

they’re not using dogs to metaphorically rape people
they’re using them to literally rape people

It is now, nigger. Welcome to my class. Lesson one: A metaphor isn't even poetry kek not my fault you're a missing a chromosome

I know. Everyone knows. But that makes dogs evil too. Plenty animals know right from wrong. Dogs are too retarded for that. It's like they're made by the devil. They are like little imps from hell. Evil minions, ready to be used against innocent people. Israeli prison rape is just the most extreme example, every asshole who uses a dog to intimidate someone else is doing the same thing. It's the perfect asshole symbiosis. Bad man's best friend

    >>

    >how big is the thing that made that
    Pretty small.
They attached one end, then let wind blow them over the gap to anchor the other end and then build the web.

Louisiana "spider story". So many inconsistancies in this guys statements.

    >mixes metric and standard imperial measurements at random

    >soldier claims he's near-sighted but didn't have glasses
    >walking at night
    >giant spider looked blurry
Near-sighted means distant objects are blurry while close up ones are clear. Glasses also essential at night.

    >Stephen King's 'The Mist' movie released 2007
    >soldier makes up unverifiable story claiming it happened around same time
    >waits 13 years to tell someone

Yeeahh, okay. :-P The trap door spider story was a nice bonus. Was he watching 'Arachnophobia' around the same time too? Sorry, but you're not going to go back out there unless you're armed to the teeth after seeing something like that. It's a good creepy campfire story to spook out the arachnophobes who might be present. Narrated in a manner that suggests legitimacy while being essential nil on facts. Sounds like he took specifics from the J'ba fofi stories and peppered it in with his own.

    >So there we have it - either a meticulously well thought out hoax
    Precisely that.

I legitimately think giants are still out there in remote places. Afghanistan is one such likely location which is why I don't dismiss the Kandahar Giant story out of hand.

the soldier dude ominously hints that a spider grabbed one of his guys and dragged him into its lair yet his CO says to keep quiet about it? so there's assault rifles abandoned or missing out there and there isn't a care or concern about it? i can imagine the supply clerk would be more upset than this guy after seeing a giant something.

i can imagine the scene during audit time. "where are these missing rifles, mister!?" "was told not to ask, sir" "why?" "supposedly a giant spider killed the soldiers who signed for it, sir" "bullshit! son, you're gonna bust rocks at leavenworth like Rambo"

    >Mokele-m'bembe would be easy to see with a simple drone.
you literally can't fly drones over the deep parts of the congo because of the humidity fucking them up and even if you could the canopy is so thick that you can't see anything on the ground

Several years back I read about a guy that went to the Amazon specifically to research jaguars. He was in the jungle every day, in known jaguar territory, and it still took him a month to spot one.

The Congo could still hide many secrets.

After watching all of Bob Gymlan’s videos over the last 72 hours, I’ve come to the conclusion that we know little to nothing about the history of humanity and that even countries (especially first-world ones) with leading researchers in their respective fields haven’t truly figured out much of anything when it comes to understanding the flora and fauna of their own land...
