For context, I'm in a long distance relationship with someone who lives in an oppressive system which surveils and can inspect data sent over the internet to try and pin down domestic dangers. In turn, I live in a country which couldn't care less about digital safety and is relatively free. For my partner, our relationship is rather dangerous, so we must keep ourselves surreptitious and anonymous.I'm interested in self-hosting a messaging server in my house and use a client to send photos, audios, videos. However, I need to ensure full E2EE, anonymity when we interaction and, to the best of efforts, have the utmost assurance my partner won't be target of leaks or third parties that would compromise our conversations or inspect our files. So my first question would be: what are realistically some good combinations software, protocols, etc., to ensure (to the best of efforts) what is requested above? Then, what are some of the best practices to protecting ourselves and make it harder for bad actors to get access or track our devices/movements online?I'm studying a tech-related career, but cybersecurity is not my area of focus. But hell, if this is the reason I'm going full into the most psychotic crevices of it, it's worth it. I'd like to enhance my knowledge and ensure my partner's safety. No, this is not an schizo request. This is my life currently and a real need. All suggestions and directions are welcomed.
>>1579184The important thing is exchanging secure cryptographic keys.If you both have a secure key (or a public-private pair), then even email can be secure as long as you encrypt it.Having said that, it would be much easier and reliable to use Signal (messaging up that offers full E2EE and is 100% free) than hosting your own.
