Retard here; what makes the lightning happen during a volcanic eruption?
    >>
    >>6230475
Most likely white phosphorus. The most beautiful war crime (sometimes) in existence.
    >>
    >>6230626
the same thing that causes lightning in any other setting. Its just static electrical discharges held inside the ash plume instead of a rain cloud
    >>
    >>6230626
    retard here,
I would assume the lava and volcanic ash are so dense, that when they rise in the air, it acts like the highest point for the lighting to hit

I was there to work for the summer and then I went back home to the east coast to my girlfriend and went to basic training. I joined the Army Reserves, so I could have just moved back to Alaska permanently and found a job on a boat permanently and stayed in the Reserves, but I have too many kids now. I was a deckhand on a bow picker in the Prince William Sound for 2 summers (2014 and 2015). It didn't pay that great, but I could have found a regular job on a tender and then get on with a crabber in the winter. Not really something I'd want to do while married to be honest. The pay is very luck dependent.

A funny thing about these shots typically have a pretty narrow field of view. Speculating here, but it is known that kids have poorer ability to process things in their peripheral vision, making their effective FOV lower (though their eyes themselves have the same FOV as adults). It could very well be that these shots are simulating childhood perception.

Having lived in CH, SG, southern Italy and the northeastern US, I can tell you that shovelling snow from concrete as a homeowner in America is no fun. In Switzerland, snow is handled by the caretaker and many areas have heated walks so nobody really has to bother with their own snow.
If you live somewhere more modern and wealthy like CH, snow isn't annoying. If you live somewhere that thinks they're #1 USA USA USA, snow is the bane of your winter life.
My street doesn't even get municipal plows because it's a private, pedestrian only walkway dating to the 1700s so a plow can't even get here. My neighbours and I either shovel it all ourselves or in the case of bad snowfall, we pool money and pay for the service.
Other than that, snow is quite lovely, really.
In my hometown, Naples, Italy, we occasionally get snowfall on our palm trees. It's usually quite warm. Almost tropical. So just a small bit of snow shuts down the whole city.

    >how annoying really is snow?
I've lived in Central Norway for several years where you'd get a serious amount of snow each year.
It's nice the first few days but quickly becomes annoying since you spend like twice the amount of effort walking around. Depending on temperature and humidity the snow will also melt and refreeze turning grainy/icey/slushy and dirty in general. At the end of each winter there's huge dark grey mounds of shoveled up snow mixed with general dust & gravel on the side of the road (and Norwegian municipalities are generally diligent at cleaning up ploughed snow).
