>>115852725I'd say it is for a number of reasons. Retro games are more popular and generally more appealing than actual freak content, both for the vtuber and the viewer. The mindset and mood of them tends to be happier and kinder so they are more likely to be nice and friendly people. Retro gaming is also an easier topic to have mutual discussion and interest on compared to /freak/ style content which is more like a wastebasket taxon of topics, trying to be defined by not being other things. All this makes for people more likely to get along and be friends along with having a shared viewer base.What likely pushes it further is that retro viewers tend to encourage their vtubers to be friendly with each other, recommending them for raids and things like that as well as having a shared retro community server where they can set up collabs and the like for a couple years now. The general state of the /freak/ thread also tends to discourage interest and community on our side of the fence compared to the /vrt/ ones. It all adds up to meaning you're much more likely to see the /vrt/ vtubers watching each other, chatting, raiding each other and collabing much more than the /freak/ vtubers will.
I prefer it that way personally desu. Vtubers are better silo’d with their own personal content and creativity rather than being a community effort and experience. No where is that going to be more true than with avant-garde/alternative vtubers.
