Go back to bed, gramps. It was shit 20 years ago and it's still shit now.
    >>
Been trying Aether kingdoms now but it's pretty boring

I wanted to enjoy this game but all games that play 24 hours will turn into a daily grind that doesn't reward skillful play as much as no lifing.
    >>
At their core, all of these games are incremental number games with time-gated progress that can be sped up with premium currencies.

They are the original online predatory monetization scheme games.
I don't see the point of playing any of them.
    >>
The strategy genre truly is the lamest and most boring genre of gaming.

I got trapped in Citybuilder nolifing loops when I was like 12-14
to win against the Germans who own the leaderboards in stuff like Tribalwars you have to do shifts, 3 players per account and start your city on the day the server opens and never stop playing until it ends
It's like Gacha games but instead of draining your wallet it drains your time.

Avoid citybuilders at all costs, do anything else
Most drugs are probably less harmful to your life

I played it for a while a few decades ago.

What a strange game, the only winning move is to not play it.
    >>
I played it for a bit like 18 years ago. Unless you love the game and have spare money that you don't mind spending on it, absolutely do not waste your time with it.

Like MMORPGs, these kind of games are interesting in that they are relics of a specific moment when the internet had become ubiquitous but social media hadn't fully taken over yet. But they are absolutely not worth the most precious resource we have, which is time.

    Sounds like marriage.

You really felt the rape playing this game.
    >>
I played this, tribal wars and one I don't remember the name of that was themed around like ancient greek islands.
I never did any for very long though, they were pretty bad games by any means and I think all the idle/progression phone games pretty much made it obsolete.

Is it still good? I've heard they ruined it years ago.

As a german myself: It's impossible to compete against organized clans of shift workers in those games, they got 24/7 coverage and they play at work. It's impossible to beat them, most of them are old no-lifers.

I've stuck with Illyriad after trying many of these city war games. Its the best at not being p2w and doesn't require round the clock monitoring. Has a decent amount of depth. Still a waste of your time though

These anons are right, if you have the choice don't start playing them. Treat it like an addictive drug. If I could rewind time I'd never touch these games. They're the reason I'm undersocialized
