Balancing update is out now. Bags n' Belts becomes even more overwhelmingly powerful. Carda's buffed First Aid now means it's viable to make her a cheap bundle of stats for the team. Most useless perks reworked to be much better. Grenade Tech stocks through the roof.

I'm not surprised to see the crowbar get nerfed, but I am surprised to see the ARC get buffed across the board. I thought it was one of the best performing guns in the game, at least according to what I've heard.

This is genuinely a huge buff and makes Wetteroth usable on defense missions.
    >>
    >>2504453
Anon are you suffering from a variation of holes-in-airplane syndrome right now? The ARC is buffed because nobody who isn't contrarian ever used it over the K-PAC. Now the battle rifles getting hit with a fairly substantial ammo reduction is the real headscratcher. Those who can maximize the effect of battle rifles like Darby won't care all that much, those that can't are just going to drop down to assault rifles and not try to snipe enemies behind cover, not that they were doing that to begin with.
    >>
    Kruger CTMP 45
Increased armor durability damage from 18 to 22
Increased damage from 18 to 25
Reduced trade value from 130 to 90
Reduced supply cost from 20 to 18

Excuse me what the fuck are they doing? Who isn't using the CTMP 45 if they are lucky enough to find one and can spare a single slot for AP ammo? Anyone trying to make an SL be hot shit SMG stormtroopers already would consider this gun strongly, why did they need to buff it to hit 3x as hard as an AR? It's not like this thing has short range, it has 6 tiles instead of the 5 the poor PPPs get. Are they trying to balance it against the EM rifles instead of making an EM SMG instead?
    >>
I just complained about the vehicle mortar a few days ago. Now it's buffed big time. Ivey being able to rapid fire that thing sounds broken.
Crowbar nerf is uncalled for. It was the most popular gun but it wasn't actually that good.
Also, Wetteroth is finally usable, that's great. But why did they make Rewa, Darby and Tech even more op?

depends if we're talking stock ARC or the upgraded versions
early game, meaning stock items, K-PAC is usually the better choice because you have noobie squads and want the range/versatility of the K-PAC. In night missions and closer range fights the stock ARC was superior early game too.
mid-lategame the upgraded +range and CQC (etc.) versions of ARC are superior in more cases than the K-PAC variants. +range K-PAC gets a honorable mention though, but it falls off vs. anything heavier than light infantry.
Battle rifles were in a weird zone of being sometimes kinda lackluster, especially vs. aliens, to being absolutely OP at max range vs. infantry, especially with someone like Darby. I don't know what to think of these new changes yet.

(this was about the situation before the newest patch, just to be clear)
    >>
    >>2504797
The new Crowbar carbine effectively only has a -4 accuracy malus in burst mode (+10 from the innate bonus). I definitely want one to appear to see what it is like using it as a silly ambush weapon. And again, units with high AP and accuracy like Darby are the best options, though an argument could be made for Corlain here.
    >>
Really liking the balance update so far.
The previously weaker weapons like most of the smgs actually fill their niche well now. Before smgs were basically worse than both shotguns and rifles, now they feel like a good option for close assault and aren't completely useless at range 5 and above. Shotguns are still the choice for going point-blank and rifles are the generalist ranged option from further away.
The heat sinks are cool for the laserwagons too.
    >>
    >>2504903
The Mk46 SPC has always been good, now it is even better as a true SMG version of the KPAC. A lot of changes are a bit silly.
    >>
    >>2504453

    >>2504797
    >+range K-PAC
See, I never felt the range variants of the guns except maybe the crowbar was all that worthwhile. My understanding is they all share the same damage, armor pen and accuracy fall off and because the the range variants don't get an accuracy bonus like most of the other variants do the extra range and pen don't really matter all that much because they'll still struggle to hit at those extended ranges.
    >>
    >>2505398
+range k-pac is very good vs. the army and pirates, decent vs. bugs and menace
the +range guns work best on SLs that already have good accuracy
someone like darby with scout and/or binoculars, match ammo (and maybe even her extra range perk) can just bully infantry with no fear of getting hit herself; the green aim graph on the weapon attack is just one max height flat line through all ranges with that setup
combine that with some decent AT option and you can just park her to one side of a map to lock it down
it's extra funny watching the AI scramble and skirt around the perimeter if you can park her to a tower since the AI *HATES* being in range (especially on expert), but since your range is half the map it goes crazy
but it's just another tool, most of the equipment can be leveraged to great effects if you know what you're doing
    >>
    >>2505398
The M16 has more pen than the standard. And you should look at the accuracy graphs more closely. +Range weapons have an inverted ideal range so they are much more accurate at the latter half of their max reach than their standard iterations. As an additional benefit assault rifles with +range don't have as extreme of an accuracy falloff at short range compared to battle rifles. Finally its a very M16, M16, in a game about not US Marines.

Maybe try playing the game instead of watching youtube videos about playing the game.

    >>2505418
    >>2505419
Right, I get that it flips the equation; but I'm of the opinion from my experience that because the range kpac (really, most of the +range variants) does the same damage the whole "range" gimmick isn't all that useful since they still have same loss in armor pen and damage as all the other guns with possibly more hit chance when you're within the same range band as the base weapon when compared to the SOF variant
    >>
    >>2505557
The sof versions are truly ridiculous desu. They are supposed to be stealthy guns aka with silencers and probably with subsonic ammo so with lower rof and less range but they actually much better at longer ranges than normal guns thanks to ACC bonus.
    >>
    >>2505579
Nobody really loads subsonics into silenced long arms. It's just not worth it. You use a suppressor so that you can fire the gun constantly without giving yourself tinnitus and to hide the flash from firing it.

Suppressors actually tend to improve the ballistics of most rounds. There are several US SOF guns that effectively require a suppressor to make up for their shortened barrels.

    >>
    >>2505959
This isn't especially a bad thing, single player games can't get really boring if there's no reason to use anything but the same three options over and over again and it's not like this update actually took time, they added a couple small items and tweaked some variables in the code. They probably got this done concurrently while working on the next big content update, since they announced they have 2 more updates planned before the end of the year.
    >>
    >>2505959
They said that current EA have like 60% of content. So we can expect like 2 more allied "factions" and maybe two more enemy faction if we are lucky. Maybe there will be some serious rework like in BB EA but honestly I doubt it. It was said that there wil be only like 25 SQL on the end of EA and that is not much.

Pistols are actually really strong. Even the bad 20 supply one allows Darby to fire an extra 3 range attack off in addition to her 2 rifle shots, just on her starting AP. Giving her one has made early bug campaigns ridiculously easy since she can delete trash squads running into melee with her leftover AP. About to try out the really good handguns on her against RA.

The game is planned to have a whole second half with considerably more high-tech equipment compared to what we currently have (energy shields, power armors, androids and stuff like that). And stronger enemy factions like the Shadow Forces that control the menace. Though with the current pace of development I'm very sceptical about it. The new pistols have definitely significantly improved Corlain.

    >Jaeger uniform, camo netting, drug that gives concealment
    >Walk into middle of enemy forces
    >Shoot them to death with pistol shots that do the damage of an assault rifle for 20AP
    >Gain so much concealment not even Jaegers can see him and officers can't mark him due to the effect of his perk

He would singlehandedly solo every single infiltration type mission if it weren't for the existence of vehicles. But OCIs can handle those I'm pretty sure.
    >>
If power armor is going to be a thing lategame I wonder how that will work with Buff being one of the earliest perks in any promotion tree. You take it and be able to equip that squad with heavy armor anytime in the first half of the game but then it becomes semi-redundant when powered alternatives are available. Though I guess you could just make the supply cost argument by pricing power armor really high (even more than Bash already is getting into silly territory).

Based balance changes through data and not through listening to retards whining
    >>
I'm thinking. I'm using the big think. And I think that sight and detection ranges should be increased by about +4 or +5 or so.

    1. Longer sight lines means less instances of driving a truck up, the troops get out into cover, ah there is one squad of pirates at the edge of your view. But actually NO there's 3 boarding commandos and majority of the crew hiding just one tile out of range who immediately run into view on their turn, which means you now have to choose who gets to eat PDW or thermite grenade or flamethrower on your next turn. Fucking clown car fog of war that's sillier in implementation than many other similar games.
    2. Increasing the distance makes stealth less powerful because you and the enemy can see much further than you can shoot. If you want to stealthily kill enemies, you will actually have to work for it by sticking to cover and trees rather than standing Darby out in the middle of a field.
    >>

    >>2507674
I don't honestly think that it will be resolved in any sensible way. The whole stealth issue is broken. Your troops can't even sneak around, can only crawl when heavily pressured under fire. Otherwise your infantry walk around fully straight like it's Napoleonic times.
Now I just want flashy colourful uniforms and big hats.
    >>
    >>2507706
Them standing up is just an abstraction just like a whole house for cover is just a suggestion to miss. Actually that does give me an idea though. If your suggestion would be implemented why not just give it as a skill to characters like Darby?

    Instead of Sprint she has a Sneak skill;
    >a single move action that will not stop her in her tracks when spotting an enemy and being spotted in turn
    >immune to detection during this move
    >recalculates detection radius as normal at the destination, so she best stop in some trees or behind a solid wall

Though to really make this functional they would have to rework the COM being omniscient and still acting with the knowledge of where you are.
    >>
any chance we are getting something vaguely close to ja2 1.13 equipment /lbe autism?
    >>
    >>2507719
I kinda hope not, having experienced that.
If you want to optimize shit in 1.13, and my brain doesn't allow me not to because why wouldn't I optimize for best results, it becomes an exhausting chore after doing it for a while.
Some gear and merc setups do allow for an easier time at it (you just don't use a lot of the stuff), but trying to really dig deep into the mechanics of 1.13 does require a touch of the 'tism.
I absolutely love JA2 and greatly appreciate the modders for 1.13/straciatella/all the other stuff, but it starts to veer deep into simulationist territory and inventory/logistics management on a squad level when you really get into it. It's something you either play constantly for a while or then just take a big long break and come back after a couple of years.
I kinda want a game like menace to keep its focus on the battlefield and not in the inventory management screen.

Mortars singlehandedly armorpilled me. Now I simply don't care about them.
    >>
    >>2511101
I would if I could, this run I'm absolutely starved of vehicles of any kind.
    >>
    >>2511114
I fucking hate that you always start with zero equipment and one rusty apc.
    >>
    >>2511085
On my own expert 200% enemy supply I was lucky enough to get the 120mm mortar in shop. It's insane how much of a difference it made against first few RA missions. Being able to actually reach those motherfuckers with little difficulty is lifechanging.
Evolved bugs though, that's a whole different story.
    >>
    >>2511132
The one that jump around? Like discounted commando?
    >>
Anyone else fucking hate large urban maps?
    >>
    >>2511140
Yeah. They are managable in low numbers but if you get jumped by several you didn't spot before you finished your turn, they will tear vehicles to shreds.
    >>
    >>2510884
It's a very specific type of fun that probably doesn't appeal to the majority of players.
    >>
    >>2511153
    They heavily incentivize short-ranged infantry.
    >>
    >>2511163
    Is it really?
    >>
    >>2511191
yes, SMG's are undisputed kings of urban maps now, but all are humbled by the twin-minigun vehicle mount
    >gif related bugs & pirates that are unfortunate enough to exist within 8 tiles of the rapemachine
    >>
    >>2511198
    Smgs were always good tho.
    >>
    >>2511153
I like them. They are a lot of fun once you realize side objectives are a spook/have the ginger bitch that auto-completes 1 failed objective because you just blast your way through every building in a straight line to objective. There's a variant of urban map mission for bugs where it starts off simple and easy but after 2-3 turns bugs start mass spawning on left and right sides of the map and if you stalled a little you are now in the fight of your life desperately trying to fight off being overrun.
    >>
    >>2511153
Not really. They have lots of terrain to let you play around with cover.

My Ivey with double hugs do better. Especially if supported but she really need every supply drop.
    >>
    >>2511435
My Bog shits diarrhea on you and Ivey. 15 kills is just below average for Bog.

    LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    >>
    >>2505977
It is a bad thing because adding all these little bits is a common pattern where it turns into the only content updates and things never progress beyond that point.
    >>
    >>2511657
And insanely below average for my Ivey, what's your point exactly?
    >>
    >>2511693
my point is that Ivey is worse than Bog in every single way
    >>
    >>2511704
    >my point is I'm a retard
    Ok

    >the pisscord raiders are at it again
I use both, both are good and fairly cheap, wish we get more 1 star drivers.
That said Ivey can become absolute monster with right build and dual weapons. She can get shoot from dual hmg for 25ap/15 ap and so at 100 ap she can shoot 6 times, even at 90 ap with pike boost she can shoot 8 times. It's absolute carnage. She will run out of ammo.
Bog is more defensively oriented compared to that.
    >>
Why is all conversation in this thread thats actually related to the game just one retard saying that his way to play is the only way and everyone telling him he's wrong? What is even the point of this shit?
    >you use disposable launchers? You must be a tranny
    >you use grenades? You must be a tranny
    >you use carda? You must be a tranny
    >you use Ivey? You must be a tranny

Urban maps have shittons of cover and LoS blockers. Shotguns absolutely rape anything they're put up against.
    >>
    >>2511748
    Bog is cheap and bursty.

Ivey is still cheap but not quiet AS cheap, and more focused on getting into a good spot and raping the enemy to death with big, longer-ranged weapons.

You take Bog to drive the cheapest possible ATGM you can manage onto the map. You take Ivey to park a long gun IFV on a hill and touch Rogue Army walkers.

Ivey copers absolutely getting cooked rn
