    1. Paradox didn't make or develop East vs. West
    2. Their "community: (hrk tfu) is full of insufferable faggots having autistic fits over Byzantine Empire and Balkans, and THEIR own personal alt-history scenarios.
    >>
    >>2473413
Isn't that a mod of hearts of iron 3?
    >>
    >>2473420
essentially yes but it was supposed to have a lot more going on
of course it doesn't exist beyond a reskin of hoi3
    >>
    >>2473413
It doesn't take "balls". It's just a time period, which requires the mechanics of the game to organically simulate real history, instead of relying on scripted events. And Paradox realized they simply aren't able to do that with the HoI 3 engine.
    >>
    >>2473413
The bigger problem with a cold war game is that it's either just an extension of Hearts of Iron if you go to war quickly or it's multiple decades of nothing ever happens with the occasional insurgency that aren't ever really fun or engaging to play in Paradox's games
    >>
How would you handle a post-cold war GSG with drones and precision artillery?
    >>
    >>2473413
Because it was technically a spinoff game developed by BLogic, additionally the community was much smaller and more niche so bad press was less likely.
    >>
    >>2473413
Already notice a massive flaw since Failestine did not exist in 1948.
    >>
    >>2473413
I think the official reason at the time was that a lot of the people who survived the war crimes of the time period are still alive and would get upset at seeing their tragedy game-ified. But that hasn't stopped Paradox from incorporating the Bengal Famine and The Great Purge into HOI4 at a time when there were some survivors from both still alive, so some atrocities are worth more than others. It also has to do with which atrocities are better known in the west, hence the Holocaust being completely absent from the game despite other genocides making it in, leading to the old joke among wehraboos about HOI4's portrayal of WWII being the most accurate because the Holocaust doesn't happen in it.

For what it's worth, the best bits from EvW such as the naval designer and world tension system, as well as half of its soundtrack, ended up making it into HOI4, but funnily enough this is also the first HOI game without an Operation Unthinkable bookmark. As I mentioned in the thread from where you likely got the inspiration to make this thread, things in the world have changed too much since the days of EvW's development to where making a proper Cold War era game that isn't just the US and USSR trolling each other is impossible for publicly traded companies.

    >>2473768
    >it's either just an extension of Hearts of Iron if you go to war quickly
The vision was that EvW would have been HOI's battle system but with Vic2's economy, which would have given the player something to do during nothing ever happens time like it does in Vic2. You as the player would have also been planting insurgencies all the time, there's a lot you could do with a Cold War game

    >>2474108
It would be like gas attack in Vic2 where you're basically fucked if your opponent has it researched until you have it too. Maybe even have a drone team as one of the possible support units in the division designer.
    >>
    >>2473413
Also, there was basically no timeline in which this game would have been a success if you played the build that got leaked after the game was cancelled. Even for the standards of the time where Paradox would release completely broken shit and the fanbase was expected to buy it and then wait a year for patches to make the game playable, this game was too much for even that. You've probably seen videos on YouTube of people playing this build, but fuel completely didn't work and the game would crash all the time for example.
    >>
    >>2474115
    That's the 1948 war, dumbass.
    >>
    >>2474148
Which was Israel vs Syria, Jordan, and Egypt since Failesteen did not exist as a country.
    >>
    >>2474139
People complain about modern Paradox games but pre CK2 they were literally broken and unplayable until the 2nd expansion. Nowadays you still have to wait for it to cook but at least it gets patched to a playable state within the first few months.
    >>
    >>2474108
Depending on when you set it it isn't really much of a problem.
    >>
    >>2474162
    >People complain about modern Paradox games but pre CK2 they were literally broken and unplayable until the 2nd expansion
    This is not true.
    >t. played the early EUs and HOIs
    >>
    >>2473413
After playing modern day mods for HOI4 and Vic3 both and also early game Terra Invicta, I conclude there is no way to make a fun post-1945 GSG that ALSO has the correct dev cycle lifespan for their DLC business model.
    >>
    >>2473418
The devs are basically the same as the community about byz and and alt hist in general

I liked the soundtrack, shame they scrapped it
    >>
    >>2473413
Well I think it's a much harder game to make and market.
Firstly the standard appeal of a grand strategy game is conquering, war. And a Cold War game would really minimize that.
And then you have the issue that these events that a Cold War game would have to include still have people who remember them today, who lost people during these wars or coups or subterfuge missions. Which runs the risk of a lot of controversy
    >>
    >>2480336
Engine runs like dogshit and would have been terrible with the mechanics they tried to shoe into the game expecting it to play for 50 years.
    >>
    >>2473413
because they're commies and commies lost IRL.
    >>
    >>2473413
Because they weren't managing 50 billion other games at the time.
I am staggered they are this good at their size. I had no hope they would retain any quality at this point having experienced game studios bloat as they age. City Skylines 2 might be their first genuine flop (or maybe Caesar) but that's because unity fucked them in the ass and it's not really their fault. I'm just waiting for:
    >optimization
    >1 packaged purchase with dlc that is affordable because 1 thing I don't like is their mass of dlc (though I'm still a sucker for it with AoE too

At what point is a dlc just a "microtransaction"? Some of these expansions are not expansions kek. Don't make them too small or it might burn off audience. Also too many too fast is a bit silly ngl. AoE and Paradox games have that problem.

To me, Elden Ring did it right. A dlc should feel almost like another game along with the current game.
With small dlc/expansions/microtransactions I tend to start thinking about piracy because I simply cannot afford it at all. There's only so much liquidity in the economy. I wish people understood this with AI, but apparently we're doing dotcom bubble 2.0.
    >>
    >>2494683
speaking of commies, universal income sure is good at providing liquidity without increasing inflation, unlike financial investment schemes and government bailouts/funding.

And with GST it means tax flow. I don't like GST though because rich people avoid paying it entirely and that starts to sound like feudalism, which is a poor economic situation and poor grand strategy. No tax is preferred but hard to manage.

Really off-topic but I'm skeptical but curious; how would universal income not impact inflation?
    >>
    >>2495010
NTA but no new money is created. It's just recycled from taxes.
The money supply did not change so there isn't inflation, unless the government is retarded and decides to print money to cover the costs.

Only in the jewish propaganda about how stronk the israeli army is (they've never faced off against a competent conventional opponent)

    >And then you have the issue that these events that a Cold War game would have to include still have people who remember them today, who lost people during these wars or coups or subterfuge missions. Which runs the risk of a lot of controversy
this is such a piss poor take
if that was the case, there wouldn't be no vietnam war games
    >>
    >>2504094
Vietnam doesn't really matter because America lost, third worlders won, and Americans don't bleat and shitpost about accurately depicting history.
Imagine instead, if you will, a game where
    >China does NOT get cores on Tibet
    >Israel DOES get cores on the West Bank and Gaza
    >Turkey does NOT get cores on North Cyprus
    >literally any depiction of India/Pakistan
Just one of these and the entire game would be boycotted and spammed with negatie reviews, but all of them? You'd be combining the butthurt of whole continents of subhumans, all mad at some perceived slight and desperate to defend their tribe's izzat.

    They were extremely outnumbered.

Cease you ignorance. It's literally the brain-child of Milton Friedman. Yes, him. Why would lolberts advocate for it? It's their way of gutting all welfare.

    >don't bleat and shitpost about accurately depicting history.
    Good joke
    >>
    >>2473413
A Cold War game sound difficult to make. It would have to be focused on diplomacy, espionage, proxy wars and a balance of power between the USA and the USSR. Those two and maybe other 5-4 countries would be the ones you could play as. Plus they can't milk the paypigs with the setting.
It would also need a harsh nuclear war fail state kinda like they have in that one HoI 4 mod.
Modern Paradox is just not capable to do such game. They don't seem to be capable of doing much these days.
    >>
    >>2513607
    >Those two and maybe other 5-4 countries would be the ones you could play as
Why not all the tribes are playable on Imperator
    >>
    >>2513631
Tribes in Imperator can reform and become huge Empires. It's one of the most fun ways to play.
    >>
    >>2473413
Paradox can barely handle moderate complexity simulations of pre-modern politics. Anything that works in their games is board-gamey and abstract. Modern politics is simply too complex for them to handle.
