I'll like to find out how many JP strategy games are there, so I'll dump covers in this thread.

I'll start with the oldest and most recognizable franchise from Koei.
    >>
    >>2466972
This series, alongside with Nobunaga's Ambition, is the oldest and the only strategy game franchise that's still alive today.

It's gameplay varies from each game but it's usually divided into two different systems, a ruler-based strategy game where you play as a warlord and conquer all of China or a character-based system where you play as a character and be able to either work as a lowly officer under a ruler or become a ruler yourself.
    >>
    >>2466972
Right now I'm just waffling between an Oda and a Takeda start, I lost my Ryuzoji(?) run earlier so I'm bummed about starting out in Kyushu or such atm.
    >>
    >>2466972
Is that considered the best Nobunaga's Ambition game?
    >>
    >>2467241
either this or Awakening depending on if you prefer miromanaging everything or roleplaying as a ruler/being more hands off.

    >Japanese
Nigga all that art looks like preanime korean gacha
    >>
    >>2467241
    Yes, along with Awakening.

Main difference between the two is the strategical approach. Sphere of Influence has a more developed system of construction and specialization for castles and provinces.

Awakening plays more like a feudal personnel management game, where you lent most of the control to the AI (it's competent); easier to play if you haven't played Nobunaga before.

Nevertheless, KOEI likes to reinvent the wheel after every game and modern titles can lack features from previous ones, for example, Awakening doesn't has coalitions (SOI does).

Gihren's Greed if you like Gundam
An anon from /m/ finally translated it some time ago
    >>
    >>2469998
Not him but there's like 5 of them and various versions like I think some handheld for 5 has more stuff but lacks voice acting over its older PS2 release.
    >>
    >>2470031
Specifically, the translated one is Menace of Axis V, the fifth game of the series

    A-Train series is still alive
you'd think with all the niggas-on-a-grid tactics that came out of japan they'd put out some more strategy

Really liking Inindo, but it's more of a roleplaying game.
    >>2467241
Prefer Rise to Power, Iron Triangle and Tendou, myself.
    >>
    >>2467229
Oh are you the anon from the /v/ musou thread? Did you start the campaign with the Mogami or Satake as I told you?

I am that guy lmao, and I did try both of those.
Mogami of 1572 ended really fast from being invaded from the north and the 1567 Satake run went mostly well but Honnoji never happened so I'm dealing with a Super Oda that I'm...kinda at a stalemate against.
    >>
    >>2477358
Mmm well if you lose with the Satake you can try the Nanbu, sure the north is shit but at least you can grab good officers and if you defeat the Hojo and take control of Kanto you'll steam roll the rest of the map, or you can try the Chosokabe, the fucking Miyoshi are a pain in the ass

Age of Ethanol, right? They are making a sequel for this, Touhou Empires.

Daisenryaku, the jap version of Panzer General. Advance Wars is a more casual version of that same type of gameplay. Then there's R-Type tactics which got a full remaster duology recently. That's a bit more unique in that it replicates the sidescrolling nature of the original games where you can't make units face backwards so you have to use weaker attacks if you get flanked.

Chaos Galaxy games (front came out a few days ago by the way). Dev is technically Chinese but they're made specifically in the style of those old koei games.

all Kessen games are good but I love 3 the most. literally the only one of it's kind
    >>
    >>2485583
I'd buy 3 copies if they remake the first one. The game was extremely cinematic for its time and has a very good OST.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiVU6qHDupE

I also really like how you can lose every single battle and still get an ending, but while the gameplay was fine enough but really showed its age now.
    >>
    >>2466972
There's more japanese strategy games than stars in the known universe, they just don't get translated to English. Also like 50% of them are also hentai games, as a result of strange crossbreeding (both strategy and H-games being mostly confined to PC). Check out 7th RAIZIN, it's peak.

This was cool but even my dumb 13 year old self quickly figured out that just clumping your forces together into a big group and smashing through enemies one by one was the way to go, felt very easy

I'm playing Three Kingdoms Heroe's vow. It's fun for now but the game balance is fucking shit and I keep eating shit in duels if I have to fight more than 1 guy.
I hope someone makes a mod replacing the CG for ROTK's ones instead
    >>
    >>2466976
Wow! I didn't know they implemented furigana in the JP version of Ro3K 2
    and also booba, booba good!

The dev who made Age of Ethanols, The Touhou Empire and is currently working on The Touhou Empires also made a SC clone called LotusCraft

Along with the furigana the Japanese versions also have a section for their courtesy name. It always annoyed me that they removed it in the English version, I want to give my created officers style names.

I'm trying to play pic Iron Triangle but I keep getting my ass handed to me and can't conquer a single fief.

The AI spams very annoying tactics like this one that makes your units run away and they don't seem to work nearly as much when it's you using them.

Bring high int officers if you want your tactics to succeed. High int also decreases the chances of your officer being effected by one as well.

I just started playing pic related and it seems cool. I rarely see people talk about it.
    >>
    >>2507021
It's extremely annoying how the AI spams that strategy that makes your unit start running backwards, mislead or rumor I think.

I attacked the Date with a slightly bigger army split into 3 units and they sent the bulk of their army as 1 cavalry unit. Their cavalry annihilated my similarly sized cavalry unit with tactics. I had sent a musketeer unit behind to shred their horses but they kept running back towards my base because enemy mislead tactic succeeded 3 times in a row.

Heroes' Vow is unfortunately the best TK game in years. Though unless you're playing some 95+ strength monster, most of the duel-type combats expect you to be bringing friends, whether that's other officers, the generic bodyguards, or just go tame yourself some crocodiles or some shit. It's a lot like Taikou Risshiden in that sense, from what I remember of playing the old scuffed as hell English patch for V.
There's also a few mods for RoTK portraits from when I looked into it, though none of them can replace literally every single portrait between all the OC women or other literally who-s so I haven't tried them because I know it'd clash a lot.
    >>
    >>2492309
    Yes, it is.

Kessen2 is the first one refined but the third game essentially fused itself with musou gameplay like dynasty warriors.
    >>
    >>2512342
Description of the game intriques me, but the character portraits/models turn me off so much. Doesn't look like they are AI-generated but they might as well be.
    >>
    >>2514206
The portraits are 100% AI generated, the 3D models I can believe were done by a human: they actually look pretty fucking amateurish, and the gigantic tits of all the ladies is something any censored cuck AI would be unlikely to make for them.
I'll reiterate there's a few Koei RoTK-portrait replacement mods out there, you'll just have to deal with any nobody who wasn't there already sticking out, though the game lets you replace the portraits yourself too.
