I like Sins 2. Its pretty much just Sins Rebellion but newer/extra stuff. Not sure how much I really care for the DLCs, I bought the one that added in the new ships but not the scenarios. I still tend to find the AI lacking though its gotten better since launch.
Glad they are working on the UI finally.

I wish more of the modding scene came over for sure though.

    >sins 2 lacking soul
it's the voice direction and visual presentation, topped off by some AI art. a lot of the sins 2 unit barks are a lot more generic-feeling, while I get a sense for the units themselves as characters (harcka etc) I don't get a feel for the faction. the whole game is spent staring at the map but there's very little character to the map screen, it's just a window with menus to watch planets and fleets move around. what little artistic space is available in sins 2 to convey characterization to the player was, until very recently, mostly generic AI art. compare tech tree icons between sins 1 and sins 2.
    >>
    >>2454226
Sins Rebellion is a finished release has many finished conversion mods.

Sins 2 is a unfinished game still a work in progress disguised as a full release. Not that many conversion mods, but the mod support is much more modular, it's actually better in 2. Some would say that it needs steam workshop because its easier for them because of their mental handicap.

Sins 2 has a few good stuff that makes it better than 1.
The planetary and capital ship management is so much better in 2. The functioning turrets on the ships are also very nice to see. The orbital planets are also neat for gameplay. Sins 2 may look inferior from the outside, but it's shaping up to be better than 1 and it's worth playing.

I'm actually kinda nervous about the new faction. It was one of those things that should have been in the background, now it needs to be nerfed in some way because otherwise the original lore of it oneshotting the Vasari doesn't make sense.

Do you remember in command and conquer the scrin showed up and the end of the campaign revealed the army that almost destroyed earth was just a mining fleet that didn't expect any resistance? It's easy to do it. Hopefully it will be unique and their gameplay will be playing a vanguard that slowly summons in more ships at an increasing rate.

    >>

    >>
    >>2479482
I will buy it and play it. No reason not to. With the AI updates the game should be a in a good spot.
    >>
    >>2463123
From the preview they seemed kinda broken.
    >>
    >>2480087
There is not nearly enough meat in the game to justify full price.
No campaign, no story, no characters, not much voice acting, no cinematics, no in depth manual.
It still feels rudimentary. Not worth more than 30 bucks even with all released content so far!
Only if they added all of the above it would be a truly complete game and worth ~50 bucks.
I like the concept of the game, I like the work of Ironclad but Stardock is a greedy POS.
    >>
    >>2479558
Not true, every faction in rebellion had the same opposing sides. One side of each race wanted to form peace and alliance, the other sided of each race wanted war.
    >>
    >>2480356
It's hard to think of what else they could actually rebel over without including cross race factions.
    >>
Huh I wasn't following the development of the expansion.
So the great menace is just a random ayy lmao faction like the rest, that you can beat up in a skirmish any time? That's so ubelievably lame. It should have remained a mystery forever. The devs have no understanding of how cosmic horror works.
    >>
Oh, the dlc is on a discount, but not the game for some reason? Guess I'm pirating it in a few days.
    >>
    >>2481161
The Eidolon are supposed to represent the vanguard. It's not their full force kinda like the Vasari ingame are just refugees on rubber boats fleeing from Spacerael.
    >>
    >>2481215
I picked it up for 19,99 on GMG. I regret it. I played once against the eidolon and they aren't that awesome. Corruption feels wierd too. Like I can't get rid of it.
    >>
    >>2481586
I played (a free torrent) as the Eidolon and the corruption mechanic is only confusing, seems to make no sense. It's not properly explained, you don't get any mission goals like with the other factions, no idea why and what and when to do with corruption.
    >>
    >>2480269
    >just good old RTS fun like we had back in the day
    Hello zoomie
    >>
    >>2481607
I got a bit of a grip to it after playing them. It seems corruption is spent to activate shroud effects. And i don't think other factions really interact with it.
But eidolon need to take extra time at a planet to shroud it to get the plane working properly. It seems like the intent was late game they can shit out ships even faster than TEC.
    >>
    >>2481917
    > It seems corruption is spent to activate shroud effects
After playing a little more I got it. I had to build "corruption reservoirs" that were hidden in tier two of the dominion research tree, and more than just one or two of them to get a positive rate of corruption for the home planet. Only then it was possible to unlock higher shroud levels and development points, but this again only after researching "shroud augmentation"... the whole progress is so nested, the necessary steps hidden and blocked here and there, it's just not intuitive. I still don't understand what the "Vile Eruption" ability of the corruption reservoirs even does. It apparently doesn't help the corruption rate of the planet! How else can I increase it? With asteroids there was no way to build enough reservoirs in the first place because the lacked development points.
    >>
    >>2482187
I thought this too but what I had luck with was setting all my cluster of asteroids to propagate. At the start I set my home planet to the same. The upkeep is very low and later all the asteroids can keep the main world in one of the better modes indefinitely. If anything, the reservoir seems like a noob trap.

Doing this I could shroud each of my early planets as I reached them.
    > I still don't understand what the "Vile Eruption"
Vile eruption really only seems good for ships. It seems eidolon corruption works by buffing their own ships, debuffing enemy ships, and then certain abilities spend that corruption to heal themselves. I don't actually like it, it's so convoluted it wraps right around to something you ignore and since there doesn't seem to be any way for other factions to mitigate corruption it just seems to be the cost of fighting them. The only thing you might do is need to keep a buffer from their worlds to keep your own functioning. but in actual fleet combat it builds too fast to deal with it.
    >>
    >>2434046
    It's the discount cousin
    >>
    >>2434046
Yes and no. It's better in almost every way except the game never developed a certain level of strategic depth for some reason.
    >>
    >>2434046
You can have both, it's okay.

    >>2482431
I've only played an hour with the new race, I was playing as Advent against the Eidolon (and some Vasari). I noticed the corruption had a dual effect on the Advent, increasing the use-cost of abilities but also buffing them? Otherwise I've noticed their ships are tanky af, although their AI isn't so good.

I wonder when the upgraded MARS system will release.
    >>
    >>2434509
    True if big.
    >>
    >>2487379
yeah advent ships get a debuff for corruption but they also get a buff to their psi power. so if it's a ship that actually benefits from psi power it can quickly become dangerous
    >>
    >>2433256
It's really fun on the surface but is ultimately a hollow experience because the AI is too shit to provide any challenge to the player and the game is too slow for multiplayer matches fit within a single play session.

Sword of the stars still clears every other space strategy game with active combat.
    >>

    >>
    >>2479006
Yes, that's what it has always been, you generate maps with your choice of settings and either pve, pvp or a mix of both. The "story" was essentially in the game manual and doesn't play out ingame. You make the story by how you play, who you ally or fight, hiring pirates or playing the politics/religion game and converting plants vs taking them by force. It's your story.

It is funny how they give a much better deal on the dlc if you buy it all upfront when you don't even know if you will like the game or not. If you buy the base game, like it, and want the dlc, the dlc content pass is pretty expensive with a much worse discount than it would have been if you had bought it with the base game. Feels predatory.

No. I've played both 1 & 2. I seriously don't understand how anyone enjoys this shit.
Lack of a Campaign, no lore, nothing to attach you to the setting.
Diplomacy isn't good, the economy is fake complicated.

The moving orbits is somewhat interesting, but the planets aren't big enough for it to matter.
The only joy I get from the franchise are mods that make it about other IPs

even with the ares patch, he ai is clinically retarded
playing as eidolon is confusing (i might be retarded)
after a number of games ive decided that i don't like cap ship items because you always end up buying the same shit and it gets tedious. same with planets during mid-lategame sprawl. it's almost like research tiers need to be gated by number of owned planets or something more significant than just spam labs. you also need to play with a victory condition other than annihilation because playing whackamole to finish off every last asteroid is really fucking dull
rebellion is still the better game
