What is the best Pirate RPG?
>>4140083
>>4140093I would also recommend EVE Online. Space piracy is a core gameplay loop in both Elite Dangerous and EVE, just boils down to whether or not you prefer action combat in a cockpit which can be done by yourself, or flying around in tab target gameplay in a group of players with your camera zoomed out so far away from your ship that you mind as well just be staring at excel menus for 95% of the time.If you want an aesthetically traditional pirate game but with the high degree of verisimilitude in the gameplay like in a space sim, then there was the MMO Voyage Century. It had both naval and ground gameplay. Ground gameplay is similar to oldschool MMOs like Everquest where if you are a noob and run into an area alone then you will probably die, need a group or grind a lot (it was an asian developer iirc). Had way more depth to it than Pirates of the Carribbean Online or Sid Meier's Pirates on the Xbox.Sid Meier's Pirates is a pretty fun game, overall the most fun pirate game I have played though without the indepth RPG and simulationist/sandbox stuff of the above mentioned games.
The original one.
>>4140083Pirate rpgs are is such a niche I've only seen this developer still making them, Carribean Legends is one that recently release a standalone spinoff this year
>>4140194>"the original one">posts the remake>not even the first remake, the second remakeWhat did he mean by this
>>4140083Unironically Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
Why are pirate RPGs so uncommon?
>>4140581Because it's a shitty era to be in. You don't get badass weapons and armor like medieval times, or spells from fantasy universes. You get a guy wearing gay clothes with a saber and a single shot musket or pistol on a slow moving ship that fires a cannon once a minute and takes 15 minutes to turn around and reposition. There's tons of other eras that are more fun to play in.
>>4140581All high production value WRPG studios have been converged by leftists and they don't want to touch a fundamentally colonialist setting like piracy which is about preying on trade happening around colonies, be it in the Caribbean or in asia. Too difficult to try to bend over backwards and try to rationalize it as being heroic from their worldview, see the confused narrative of the third PotC movie that tries to make out the pirate coalition against muh evil British as some sort of anti-capitalist metaphor... when these are pirates. Rapists (not very feminist), looters, pillagers, murderers, etc.If you talk about privateering against big states, then that itself is also financed by big states, so that's not really Sticking It To The Man either and thus interest is low from these devs.Lastly, as >>4140662 said, realistic piracy is not sexy. Unless you're the captain, then the other guys on the ship aren't having fun. They're having to swap the poop deck, eat rations, get ill and all sorts of diseases, etc. With a traditional fantasy adventure RPG party hiking through the wilderness, it is much easier to pretend everyone is having a good time.
>>4140664>Rapists (not very feminist)But what about being raped by a feminine penis?
>>4140194Not an RPG, it's a series of minigames. It's a really fun series of minigames but that's what the game is.
>>4140662When people want a pirate RPG, they don't want a realistic one, they want Treasure Island: The RPG
>>4140994It really doesnt seem that hard to make a normal RPG with fantasy pirate elements but barely anyone has tried. I think the actual hard part is just making it feel diverse when 90% of fictional pirates might as well be exactly the same character.
>>4140083This one. Yes, I am serious.
>>4140581They become common if you allow Sky Pirate and Space Pirate RPGs too.
>>4142941This looks horrible.
>>4142960I think that only proves the point made earlier that classic pirates are very limited
>>4142960>sky pirateSkies of Arcadia and what else?>space piratePractically doesn't exist, unless that Spacejammer game was about them.
