This is the only game I will ever shill. Its so fun and creative with good quests, enviroments, big memorable difficulty spikes like josaphene.Gameplay is basic but extremely satisfying, I just shocked dudes from accross screen for a lot of the game.a story/quest writing that was designed first and foremost to be enjoyable for someone to actually play than just something to think about.Ost is 10/10 accross the board, I put it above a lot of final fantasy sound tracks easily. Its so fucking good, I think the only actual bad design was making every enemy in the last hour practically immune to magic. But whatever I played a mage and got though it.Also like a couple jokes don't land, but whatever a good amount do and the cheesy voice acting is just great. I genuinely rank it as a top 5 western rpg, and you owe yourself to play it if you haven't.
>>4136468Unsure if I'd like to touch larian gain, after dos 1,2 and bg3.
>>4136468>Diablo but an actual RPG and not just a carpal tunnel simulatorsurprised there weren't more games in that vein
>>4136468>Ost is 10/10 accross the board, I put it above a lot of final fantasy sound tracks easily.>I genuinely rank it as a top 5 western rpg5/10 bait, was ok but you laid it on too thick>t. played divine divinity back in the day
>>4136533Brother are we kidding here, this is genuinely one of the best ost in the genre https://youtu.be/G3wOfUnqsyg?is=jMyDVElJuICmZClcAnd yeah I like it a lot and its one of my favorite rpgs I have a passion for.I don't really care if you missed out on what makes it special for me thats your opinion but I liked divine divinty a lot and more people should play it.
>>4136531Kult Heretic KingdomsNoxLionheartInquisitorThere was a whole bunch in the 2000's when Diablo was king.
>>4136468too bad the sequel is shit.>>4136548>Noxthat's a very clicky Diablo 2 clone too.
>>4136640Its pretty bad just being a cashgrab but its interesting bad.Went to old larian forums and theirs a moderator still discussing beyond divinty builds like other month in random threadsThat's some passion
What did this have that Sacred missed? On the surface they're very similar games, but once you play both, the reception is very different.
>>4140392Sacred is just a clicker, this one has real RPG towns and many quests, some with multiple solutions. It's a real CRPG, just with Diablo's combat.
Has anybody put out a a fix for the broken skills yet?
>>4140564Which skills are broken? You could always ask on the Larian Forums, it's an old timey bulletin board for their core fans, it's surprisingly still active.
>>4140571The digital edition is based on an older build, which still had several bugs (including some broken skills, IIRC some of the ranged ones don't do anything). The last CD version released fixed everything, but they didn't usethat one when creating the online distributed version.
>>4140578>The last CD version released fixed everythingI did some poking around on their forums, and here's an interesting thread from 2009, this is when they first announced the digital version, and one of the first replies is pic related, describing all the broken skills in the CD version (which was the only version at the time).https://forums.larian.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=386071The digital release probably fixed at least some of these.
>>4140590Is it based on dnd
>>4136468Can't agree. I kinda liked it (even felt compelled to grind levels through the resurrection trick), but it's hard to not see it for what it is: kinda generic and janky Diablo clone with some extra mechanics and ideas.I mean, it has elves which is always a big plus, but it's really a basic bitch story and setting. It only matters because it got expanded into a respectable fantasy setting by future more sophisticated instellmants, I gather. The idea to scale XP earned from monsters down as you level up BUT scale XP earned from quests up as you level is some legendardy tier of cursed stupid mistakes, which punishes proper gameplay and rewards ridiculous metagaming where you first clear all the map and then return to the starting town to start doing al the quests you tip-toed around until that point.
>>4140564I hate that when you use +1 to SKILL items, you can fuck up your character when save/loading
>>4140680Is that still an issue in the latest 1.0062A version? Also, I've loaded one of my old saves (right after finding that zombie dude who follows you for a while), and I've been instantly reminded why the starting town's catacombs are the worst starting area in any RPG ever.
>>4141278>Is that still an issue in the latest 1.0062A version? That's what I have from GOG.And I suffered from the "resistances keep going up" due to save/loading bug so these ridiculous issues are present. It also affects light/visibility which is quite cursed. And this is not bug or glitch, it's a glaring deficiency in the engine that should have been handled from version 1.0, because items increasing stats (which causes these ridiculous bugs) are common in the game.
>>4141348I suspect that can't be fixed without a complete overhaul of the savestate system. Which I suspect is unlikely to happen, unless somebody vibecomps the game.
>>4141348Forgot to ask, do the light/visibility issues go away if you remove/re-equip the items?
>>4136640Nox predates Diablo 2
>>4141754iirc no, else it wouldn't be a big problemI personally only got the resistances issue and that can only be fixed by cheat-editing your character, the underlying issue is the same though, so I don't think the light issue is fixable by undressing.
>>4141782Well shet, this makes me not want to retry playing it anymore. It reminds me of another annoying bug I ran into while playing BG1 (the original version), where quickslot items would not work anymore (but would still be consumed), regardless of which savegame I loaded. I'd rather not have to slog through the game while accumulating shitty bugged effects. Think I might switch to Divinity 2 instead. That one doesn't have any egregious glitches, right?
>>4141804It's not *that* bad.IIRC you have to avoid items that increase the skill that adds resistances (items with direct resistance bonuses are safe), mystic defense or how it is called.Same with avoiding items that increase elven sight and the other light increasing skill. Items with direct bonuses to light are safe. The issues should be warned against in every guide, readme and in some store descriptions on GOG/Steam though.
>>4141804>Think I might switch to Divinity 2 instead. That one doesn't have any egregious glitches, right?Dunno, I didn't get into it. I peeked at the guide and decided it will probably be a chore with farming and mechanics which encourage meta sperging, which is a huge trap for me.
>>4141804Also, the editor works I think, so if you get affected, you can fix your guy/girl.
>>4141808Actually, if the sight/light/visibility bonuses keep stacking, wouldn't that make the game easier for players who use ranged weapons? Since you could start wailing on enemies from nearly an entire screen away?
>>4141814Yeah, but iirc it could also take form of the light decreasing until you see nothing (the resistances could drop super low too), though I'mnot aware how the decrease mechanics was triggered
Resistances creeping up absolutely did make the game easier, I wiped some area easily and only later realised it was because all the elemental attacks did hardly anything - I had super high resistances even if I should have had just 20-30 %..
>>4141816Cursed items? Having some decreasing effect active while saving/loading?
>>4141804>Divinity 2Divinity 2 or Original Sin 2?For D2 you might want this community patch to fix the stutter and other accumulated tech debt.https://github.com/BlanknameES/Div2PatchAlso, the game assumes you mind read every NPC and you lose XP for doing that, if that really triggers you here's a mod to make mind reading free.https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2994744761
Op here back after a week.Read all of your posts, but I just really really really like it. The music which Kirill Pokrovsky was a genius i will stand 10 toes on that, levels, cheesy voice acting, fun dumb gameplay that still has enough in it I was excited everytime I got a good drop and quest writing designed to be about a fun scenario than boring lore shit all come together to make a game that puts a smile on my face whenever I play it. Its not some ultimate challenge that justifys needing to do metagame shit, I have no idea how the xp system works with quests and monster xp so technically blah blah blah. And thats fine. This game was made to be enjoyable and for the player to have fun in its world and I appreciate it a lot for that more than any pretentious bore fest. Also you're game isnt good if theirs no bee Level, and thats the truth I do belive this is a top 5 crpg and my real hot take is beyond isn't that bad. Like its bad because its a rushed cashgrab but I played dozens of rpgs worse easily
>>4142101Actually my real hottake is original sin 1 is the worse larian game and by a lot. I rather replay janky ass divinty 2 again over os1Now thats a fucking bore fest
>>4140590i loved the broken Death Scorpions though. less tedious than killing the whole ork army by myself.
>>4141814>wouldn't that make the game easier for players who use ranged weapons?never tried it but specialising in bow/crossbows only really works if you pick the rogue, put most of your stat gains into DEX , then run all the way to the elf forest ASAP to buy the best endgame bows. otherwise the bow skills are really only practical for the mage class which has lots of mana to spam. the mana cost of the bow skills are more efficient than the actual magic spells. though you might need the basic bitch Spikes spell ,which does physical damage, to deal with bosses with high elemental resistances.
>>4142102Of the Larian games I’ve played:Dos2 > dos1 > divine divinity > bg3
>>4141940Thank you for the patches. There's a high-res texture pack as well. Mind reading causing xp loss is a stupid mechanic.
>>4142223The more you read the more you dubm I rid alto>>4141940Heij it col mehanik DDD::D
Is the Divine Divinity Mod worth trying?
This game would be a lot better if it used proper RTwP, instead of the clunky half-way active-pause-but-not-really thing it got.
