Studio was dead when the last of the three doctors left in 2012. Momentum got Inquisition out the door which was much gayer than previous bioware titles. It was the end right then and there. They had become a studio like Rare. Technically still existing but with none of the culture or people that actually built them. Squatters.

    * half of the post got lost

She was kinda dumb on purpose and the game allowed to either let her sort shit out (if you go romance route) or become dumber and more bitchy if you didn't touch her. Not that it matters since the only game that it is shown is cringequisition and in failguard (may pox be upon the developers) she is implied to be a dumb whore from tinder

The first iteration is somewhat cute thoughbeit
    >>
    >>4135969
About a decade. 2014's DA Inquisition was their best-selling game, despite the problems with the Frostbite engine. Idk what happened to Bioware after that. David Gaider leaving is one thing.
    >>
    >>4136245
Inquisition was the last hurrah. They pissed off the entire ME fanbase with 3 but held onto the dragon age fanbase. It's not that inquisition was horrible either, it was just a fine place to end everything given they were already on the edge after how EA made 2 go. Instead of Andromeda they should have made another dragon age. It would have kept the fire hot and given them time to do some real planning on how to address and carry on from the debacle of ME3.
    >>
    >>4136245
On the internal organization side itself Bioware heavily slowed down at making games. They only made three games between 2016-2026, compare it between 2005-2015 in which they released around 10 games. Their project management is really shit and rely on abusing their devs in an inhuman crunch time just to complete a game on schedule back in the day. It seems they are still shit and now can't abuse new employee as much as the older one who left en masse around 2015.
    >>
    >>4136245
EA happened. after doctors were kicked off they didn't have cohesive leadership and EA exec started meddling too much, changing trends. dreadwolf got restarted several times because some asshole wanted to make it live service etc
    >>
    >>4136262
Not really the best example given a portion of that timeframe is the EA crunch where they made their worst missteps.
    >>
    >>4136256
    >The development of the fourth main entry in the Dragon Age series, code-named "Joplin", began in 2015 with Mike Laidlaw as its creative director. It was intended to be a smaller, more narrative-focused game set in the Tevinter Imperium region of the game's world setting, Thedas.
    >Development of the new Dragon Age was put on hold in late 2016, due to challenges with the development of BioWare's other games Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem, a massively multiplayer online game that was very different from Bioware's previous single-player games. Many Dragon Age contributors were pulled into the final months of Andromeda's development, with the remainder later joining the Anthem team, leading to "Joplin" being cancelled in October 2017. Several veteran Dragon Age staff, including Laidlaw, left the company in response to Joplin's cancellation in 2017.
Maybe this does explain some of the downfall
    >>
    >>4136266
It's crazy how Anthem was simultanously so inconsequntial that it may as well not exist because I don't even remember it was a thing until someone mentions it, yet also probably the reason for Bioware's downfall.

    >BioWare is no more.
I'm going to be a controversial bastard and say good. Not because I dislike them and not just to be a fag but because it is their time. Bioware, like many of these legacy studios started with a dream and a small team, unfortunately they lost sight of their objectibe and with their success the scope of their projects has grown astronomically until their reach exceeded their grasp. The quality of their modern games has plummeted despite the ludicrous financial investments and the industry, and consumers, continue supporting them in spite of their failings all because of what they were, not what they are. They've had their time and they've had their time. The real tragedy is that they got greedy and were not prepared to bow out gracefully until it was forced upon them.

This freakshow of a “person” put Fallout 1 (transcendental, unapologetic masterpiece) and New Vegas (decent, relatively memorable tranny game) in the same category.

Xir also put Fallout 2 (timeless masterpiece that committed a number of sins) and Shelter (mobile product to part goyim NPC drones with their money) in the same category.

    I’ll revise the rating:

    S TIER
    1
    A TIER
    2
    B TIER
    NV
    C TIER
    TACTICS
    D TIER
    BOS
F TIER (stands for FAGGOT, if you use these products, which I won’t even call games, you are a DROOLING FAGGOT)
    76 3 4 SHELTER

If you enjoyed Fallout 3 you are a tasteless FAGGOT. Dragon Age: Veilguard, with the she-man horned tranny that comes out as nonbinary, is a better game than Fallout 3. It at least has the balls to tell you: “This is my worldview and creative vision, if you don’t like it, go fuck yourself”. Fallout 3 desperately tries to appeal to the lowest common denominator, it pleads and begs you to walk around its pointless theme park, while pretending it is a computer roleplaying game. You probably got your tier list from a YouTuber, instead of playing the games.
    >>
    >>4136598

You can see EA's clammy little hands on this spiral of death since they bought Bioware in 2007. Every year, they managed to fuck something up royally. Weird development cycles, unsure budgeting, and the corporate check lists of what should be in the game regardless if it makes narrative sense. I hate EA so much it's unreal. And the worst of all, the WORST, is the mongoloids believing fully that EA had nothing to do with Bioware's demise. That it was something else that caused this.

Bioware in 2010 had already nothing to do with Bioware in 2006. All competent people left. Freaks like Gaider got into high positions. It was getting worse with every year. The poor reviews of Bioware at job search websites, the shit quality of writing, close to non- existing QA, the gallery of technical glitches they got since the switch to Frostbite, all of it speaks for itself: the company destroyed itself.

The vampire larpers were the most retarded thing that has ever appeared on the PC screen in a commercial game.
It's hard to find a single positive thing about "FO" 3. The existing lore got massacred. The plot was idiotic. The writing was so bad it got legendary. The engine was fucked up. The combat was glitchy. Mods didn't fix it.

If one dies in the simulation one dies irl instantly. To weed out the riff-raff participants will require a Pip-Boy 3000 to play, and our hyper-realistic simulation will be just barely short of literally impossible to survive! If somebody actually does manage to miraculously survive it somehow though, he'll unlock full access to a secret impenetrable vault door containing ultra-advanced technology like stealth suits, top tier power armors, gauss rifles and insta-disintegration electro-shockswords and shit!"

An epic giant sphere who was secretly the mage stronghold.
A funny boat building that was the den of organised crime in the neighbourhood.
Chasing bandits in the cover of the night over the rooftops of the slums with with your evil dwarf npc companions.

Do you see how they used to be good at using picturesqye language with the limited means they had back then?
That's the hallmark of great dungeon masters.

You may ask what does it have to do with Bioware. Here's the answer, they absorbed all developers who ran away from Bioware over the years. Incompetent fucks and diversity hires, and to make it worse they were supposedly the best Bioware got at the time. The same Bioware which got an unending stream of negative reviews on Glassdoor and made sure to scare away anybody with actual skill.

    >make a lesbian succubus race
I can explain. First of all lesbianism was not considered gay in the slightest in 2007. Mass Effect's first mistake was not making every girl bisexual except Ashley. Ashley should've a rare anomaly, the only straight girl in The Way

    >make them bald and slimy
Secondly this obviously wasn't their intent but it worked out in the form of a happy accident, realistically very few aliens would be attractive to the Human eye. And in-universe Milky Way residents are clearly more addicted to ALIEN MIND SEX than to the Asari physical form. I should add a conclusion as to why Asari look too Human. The Novels at least address the odd fact that one of the reasons Humanity climbed atop the Galactic food chain so quickly is we fit into Asari standards of beauty, granting Earth extra socio-political leverage

Copypasting what this retard revealed about the game:
    >after the mass relays were destroyed, humanity was separated from the rest of the galaxy but they had the Citadel parked above Earth along with what remained of the Batarians and Krogan, they formed their own alliance. The Council races over time also built their own superstructures and formed their own alliances. Over 600 years in the future, the mass relays are all repaired and rebuilt
First point and we're already retconning 3's ending, with Hackett implying the rebuilding of the relays happens within his lifespan and we outright seeing Wrex and Grunt, who were on Earth during the Catalyst activation, landing on Tuchanka in the Krogan DMZ relay. Now, suddenly, the galaxy was separated for nearly six centuries yet everyone somehow made it out.
    >technology has advanced so far from the aftermath of the Reaper War that it has reached a singular point. Reapers are outdated tech so if you chose Control, they're not going to be as impactful as they were
The Reapers had been running the cycles for billions of years, but six centuries is enough to make them irrelevant? Their tech is outdated, which is why it took the galaxy 600 years to rebuild the relays?
    >everyone at this stage is part synthetic, so picking Synthesis works out a similar way
It wouldn't if one of the points in your shitty new game revolved around the geth which may or may not be alive depending on this ending

with more freedom. But if you wanted, you could go in guns blazing
    >"We then see our human female companion, and oh yes, she looks cute. She has a cute face and a good body. Maybe the devs knew it's what their audience wanted. Rich companions that weren't masculine and muted to keep certain people happy"

Bioware hasn't produced anything that was genuinely good in over a decade. It's shitty that EA keeps ruining good studios, but Bioware has long gone past the point of no return and it's better to dissolve them now (and allow the few talented people they have left to find new jobs) than to keep the braindead husk on life support just to squeeze some extra bucks from its IPs.
    >>

    >and allow the few talented people they have left to find new jobs
No such thing. Everybody who had actual skill left the company in early 10s. Only hacks and diversity hires remained. The studios created later by former employees turned out to be full of hacks as well, see the Mollasses and their fuckup with CDPR. Whatever remained in Bioware until this day is nothing but human trash.

Brainless NPC comment. Just because the studio is lead by corpo retards and can't produce anything worthwhile anymore as a result doesn't mean there aren't still good programmers, artists, etc. stuck in the wheels. Plenty of talented people choose to work for shit companies like Bioware either because they have an idealized nostalgic image of them, or simply because it's a big name and it looks good on a resume. It's why so many people want to work for Amazon despite Amazon being a notoriously shitty employer.

Shamus Young had a great article on how masterful the setup for a whole new setting was in Mass Effect 1, and how the writers seemingly went out of their way to undermine and destroy all of it in the sequel.

    https://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=52293

It was indeed one of the biggest fumbles in this industry. I can only attribute it to cocaine or something. A narrative lead who was best buddies with the higher ups who was also way too high on his own supply. I think the aim was to ramp up the stakes and "subvert expectations," that now infamous phrase, and they just ended up piling on way too much of that. Maybe someone realized this was wrong-headed in the middle of development, but by then far too much work had already been done and they had to proceed.

You are wrong. They had it figured out. The C&C, Bethesda and Bioware way- you get an extra dialog option if you did a thing, some minor change in NPC appearing or disappearing, no real branching. Perfectly achievable in the (shitty) way they invented.
It's the direction that was the real problem. You don't establish a setting over 2 games to destroy it completely in the third one. You want a conflict or a villain to pose a danger for the fictional status quo in the setting, not a literal apocalypse. The MC was a James Bond involved in black operations, there was at least 1 cold war out there, the reaper cult could be still a thing lurking in the shadows- but for fuck sake, not a genocidal warfare to end all life in the known universe. It wasn't even a military science fiction. It sucked ass as a military science fiction.

ME2 is the most popular game in the franchise because it pioneered the now wildly popular storytelling focus of high-budget RPGs, relationship simulators. See BG3 and Cyberpunk for examples. In ME1 romance and friendships were included but as flavor, not as narrative threads just as big as the main plot. ME2 derailed the main plot established in ME1. Which is why ME3 couldn't stick the landing.

It could have juggled both competently but it didn't. It's not a bad game but it is very flawed.

Let's eat shit, millions of flies cannot be wrong!

Still, I personally find ME2 weakest part of the series, it is first and foremost the weakest GAME in the series - it's an awful cover shooter, which is especially noticeable on Insanity difficulty, where you get your shields stripped in maybe one second and it's just waiting for special skills to cool down so you can take down enemy's shields/barrier/armour and MAYBE put few shots downrange, every combat encounter is a fucking slog. Game tossed out the equipment, weapon and ammo mods (gives powers instead, but they are else locked behind classes or loyalty missions, ammo powers on squadmates are a waste anyway because they cannot do shit with their guns), introduced THERMAL CLIPS (thankfully in ME3 they gave us M7 Lancer which was the fucking GOAT), dumbed down character building to bare minimum that made Call of Duty multiplayer seem crazy detailed by comparison, scanning planets fucking sucked balls and you had to spend hours sending probes to upgrade shit. But people are cutting it slack for cool ayys and people being able to die. ME1 for all its faults at least was an ARPG, not pretending to be one, while ME3 was very fun shooter. ME1>ME3 >ME2 (with mod for replenishing ammo, also makes Vindicator not fucking suck)>ME2 (without mod).

The term can still apply to video games if we are talking about a series that got spin-offs not made by the original developers (e.g. “New Vegas secondaries”) but I agree that it does not apply to sequels made consecutively by the same studio.

It's always depressing to see normies talk about "Bioware" without understanding that games are made by people, and the actual people who made the good games all quit or got fired when EA took over the company in 2010. It's like Pavlov's Bell, normies salivate over the brand name but are too stupid and brainwashed to realize the food dish disappeared 16 years ago. All publishing companies didn't like the idea of a game as a standalone product you could just buy, once, and enjoy as long as you want on your own terms. MMOs were still making money and the suits decided this should be the standard, a direction for the next 10 years.

Westwood was bought out by EA fairly early on, like early PS2 era, and EA was actually a pretty different company back then. Plus C&C games consistently sold well so there was no reason to rock the boat.
But then they spent an absolute shitton of EA's money on RA3. Now RA3 did not do badly, it actually did pretty damn good numbers. But it was a DIsney's Fantasia situation where the good gross numbers (Fantasia was like the 2nd or 3rd highest-grossing film that year) just didn't make up for the astronomical production cost.

    >DA:I was before the Witcher 3, right?
No, it's not the issue here.
DA:I came first, but that doesn't say shit about the market. It was already getting flooded with open world games since 2009. Open world games aka "have fun in the big empty space with some randomly generated shit".
DA:I made it big because everybody expected DA3 to be a good game and the pre- gamergate audience was still naive like kids with down syndrome.
DA2 was an overhyped DISASTER and the game got OWNED by the Witcher 2, despite TW2 having its own issues.
But ME2 was also a disappointing. A lot of problems with the gameplay got fixed or at least addressed in ME3. ME3 was a solid game. That was the point: BW accepted the feedback and fixed glaring issues in the sequel. Everybody expected it will be exactly the same with DA:I.
    And then they got DA2:Reloaded.
And that was the nail to the coffin of DA: Failguard, because at this point, after 2 fuckups, the customers would be very, very skeptical about any new DA even if it turned out to be a flawless game with top- notch writing and sexy content for heterosexual audience.

    >DA2 itself was an abomination.
I strongly disagree. DA2 was severely undercooked, but there were the markings of a good game. Had they had an additional year to cook, it would've been a masterpiece.
The gameplay is essentially the same as it was in DA:O. Everybody is saying that DA2's combat was heavily actionised, but I don't see it. It's the same thing. The only big blunder is that someone had the bright idea to put waves of enemies into every second encounter, which makes combat a high-stakes whack-a-mole game, but it was present in DA:O and it sucked just as much there.
The influence system is straight-up superior to DA:O, as well as gift-giving.
The dialogue wheel is a step backwards, though, not gonna lie.
    >DA:I made it big because everybody expected DA3 to be a good game
Why? I liked DA2, but the general consensus was that it's a piece of shit, no?
    > But ME2 was also a disappointing
I can see why, but it's probably the best setup/payoff that I've seen in any RPG
    >ME3 was a solid game
ME3 had fantastic shooting, at least on a k+m. Other than that, it was a mixed bag with a blunder of an ending, and I'm not talking about the narrative per se. Had it been structured similarly to ME2, it would've had much better reception.
    >And then they got DA2:Reloaded.
DA:I? Get the fuck out of here. DA:I squandered everything.
    >>
    >>4142103
    2/2
It's an open world game. It straight-up makes DA:I worse. It waters down everything.
My best friend didn't get past the Hinterlands: he is the type to do everything available, so he got bored and just stopped.
You need to fundamentally rework combat: it's either DA:O(I played the PS3 version out of curiosity, it's surprisingly controllable via the gamepad) or Mass Effect 3, in-between sucks, as we can see with DA:I. It's shit as a TPS and shit as a tactical combat game. It's just shit.
The story progression blows: almost none of the setups actually have payoffs.
It has "barely disguised author's fetish" writing blunders like Krem: we saw how qunari deal with individuals who cannot change their immutable characteristics(mages) in DA:O and DA2. The thought that they'll accept a man telling them that he's a woman and vice versa is laughable. At best, you'd be beaten. At worst, we saw the Qunari mage in DA2. It's a small thing, but somebody let it happen. And this process was used to write the rest of the game. Propagandists should bring the coffee to an actual writer and never be allowed to write.
Resource management sucks: the only person who can save the world and also leads a huge organisation gathering resources by hand, outperforming the whole organisation in the process. Ridiculous.
The castle management is non-existent and it doesn't change anything. It doesn't even have a small effect on the ending like it did in the Awakening. iirc you don't even free it by yourself like you did in one of the DA:O DLCs.
I don't quite remember what the deal was with crafting and gear, but there were issues there too.
Some of the companions(like Cole) were decent, some of the segments were ok, and MILF Morrigan was somkin hot and that's about it.

Are you dumb or retarded? DA2 switched from the almost- NWN2 combat model of DA:O to an unholy hybrid of NWN2 and pseudo- TPP WoW combat. There was no tactics, no importance of character placement, just waves of randomly generated enemies appearing out of nowhere and exploding with absurd fountains of gore. A retarded kid emptying a box full of toy soldiers on its head, that's how the combat in DA2 looked like.

The whole game is a massive side-quest. But if you look at it as a stand-alone item, it's the best side-quest ever.
Suicide Mission is an awesome payoff for the game-long setup. That's, combined with the decent moment-to-moment gameplay, what made it popular.

It's hilarious how Bioware fangays are all boiled frogs and they don't even know it. The rainbow 'people' didn't ruin Bioware. It was the natural end state, where Bioware was headed from the start. All the cringe had its seeds planted in BG2 already and the company was on a path of no return by the time DA:O came out.

That was kino, pseud. The truth of the matter is that there's a bit of a difference between 90s lefty politics and 2020s lefty politics. You wouldn't see a military main character punching a news reporter live on air in such a way it becomes an iconic moment they repeat another two times in the sequels as a player choice in a modern BioWare title.

What part? When important facts of the world and characters are changed for no discernible reason at all? When it is thematically and tonally unlike first game after it primed us and the main characters for a quest for knowledge and discovery that never took place? When the opening crawl states "humans seized political control of the galaxy" yet they attempt to quell rumors of the Reapers aka the source of their recent political power? When a retconned Cerberus wants to help Shepard, because humanity will follow Shepard, but they feel they themselves need to help Shepard because… nobody is following Shepard? When TIM reads the script to know Shepard's about to fail ie get killed by a deus ex machina? When TIM sends Miranda to help Shepard with a problem he doesn’t have yet so TIM can recruit him for a problem that doesn’t exist yet? When the supposedly clandestine Collectors brazenly attack the Normandy when they supposedly act in secrecy at every other point in the plot? When they don't scoop up or destroy the obvious escape pods after they win the battle? When nobody in the Alliance or the Council follows up and sends a force out to find out what happened to their effectively brand new trillion-credit super stealth ship and their "hero and bloody icon"? When it blows up the Normandy and kills the main character, ejects all the squad members from the story, then brings Shepard back to life and poofs the Normandy 2 into existence under the management of extremists, stating your loyal Alliance crew abandon their lifelong careers to work for this terrorist organization that was blatantly behind some atrocities that Shepard dealt with in the first game?

Mass Effect 2 is a premise that is inherently contradictory and throws away everything the first game worked its ass off to accomplish. It feels like a sequel made by someone who actively loathed the original. Changes require planning, not spectacle and brute force.

Rebirth, uneasy alliance. A great start for a second game.
    >>
The setup is bad when you look at it with a strict adherence to 1. If you just realize that Mass Effect 1 isn't good, though, and retcon most of it out, it works fine. Mass Effect has bad writing and even worse delivery; why shouldn't it be retconned?

If you think about it now, it's the same situation as with the SW:TLJ.
A fight between two retards doing an incredible damage to the franchise.
Suits think the development of a plot- heavy game is no different than manufacturing a shitter. They think games (and movies as well) can be designed by a committee, anybody can be replaced at random stage of the production, "team players" yielding to each other are better than a strong leader with a vision.
You can easily spot this approach in game development, it's the last 15 years when AAA sucks in general.

One autist on /r/masseffect (and I swear it's not me, really) wrote a nice breakdown of the magnitude of Bioware's fuckups over the years.

There are some timeline mistakes here and there apparently, but the gist of it is unchanged. The TL;DR of it according to the author is:
    1. Anthem did incredible amounts of damage to Bioware's morale and schedule
    2. The attempt to have all 3 of their studios interface and help each other just led to them becoming more insular because nobody wanted to give up resources for a project of one of the other two
    3. Bioware had absolutely hilariously terrible internal communication AND elitism, leading to them developing RPG-tools for Frostbite 3 separate times because the Inquisition, Andromeda and Anthem team simply weren't sharing theirs with the others, and the Edmonton studio working on Anthem routinely either ignoring advice from the other teams or just not even telling them what they actually wanted, leading to the support staff to spent months on stuff that was then thrown out.
    4. Significant part of Bioware's leadership had been obsessed with wanting to take the Company to the "next step" of storytelling since at least ME1 and just generally were tired of normal RPGs, which was then also terrible for morale

Anyways, here's Miranda as an apology.

You have to admit, its pretty impressive that a singular company can afford the personnel and resources required to work on three different titles all at the same time and at the same time have absolutely none of them be even good enough to want to watch it on a Lets Play, much less own it. They've definitely been dead for more than a decade, what a hot trash fire.
    >>
    >>4143471
To be fair, that's usually enough. Gamers simply don't want to be emasculated by the politics and want enough eye candy that they can fap about it occasionally. That's it, that's the lowest of the low bars. A lot of modern games literally can't even do that, they're so far up their own ass that they don't realize that the politics make them unpleasant to look at and unpleasant to play, so there's no reason to stick around. You can excuse a lot with sexy babes and a half-decent (though not necessarily good) Hero's Journey.
    >>
    >>4143627
I'm most impressed by Austin team holding the fort and keeping the lights on while the rest were faffing about for the better part of a decade. Despite losing the opportunity for MEU to revive the franchise - which, to be fair, would be unlikely, considering they intended to essentially merge the wildly varying outcomes of all 3 ME3 endings into one and handwave the implications away - it might be for the best that Bioware died. Especially now that you can mod in ME3's multiplayer in the Legendary Edition.

ENOUGH. No more stupid fingerpointing. This is the REAL reason why BioWare was shut down. Late stage capitalism. It had nothing to do with the games being "woke". Check your privileges, chuds.

These kinds of predictive phrases, similar with "right side of history" show how irrational Marxists are. It's really sad to be so convinced you can understand the future based on the present as seen through hindsight.

    >It's really sad to be so convinced you can understand the future based on the present as seen through hindsight.
This is pot meets kettle. You looked back the lens of your current understanding of your gender to help make sense of past experiences, but it doesn’t prove that your gender explains your hardship, and your future didn't improve by "changing" your gender. If you're looking to predict the future you need to accept the immutable facts of the present and not lie to oneself. In your case it's biology, in BioWares case it's poor reception of their products leading to under-expected sales compounded by poorly managed finances.

You can't predict the future at all, because it's never an extrapolation of the present or the immediate needs.
It's rather that an institution becomes loyal to itself and not the foundational principles it formed under. The culture of Bioware became self-referential and founded upon the pillars they felt were important and this didn't lead to having competent employees or providing well made games.
